Barry, is Albertsons not clean down there? I never found it when I was there, so I couldn't compare it to home. Just goes to show you how grocery chains can vary coast to coast. My local one is great - neat as a pin, great customer service, prices, blah, blah, blah.
Goodings does have a lot of the designer foods, but I recall some of that at Publix too. The other thing I remember is when the bag boy helped us with our grocery bags at Goodings he stood by the trunk of our rental car and waited for a tip. I just stood there clueless, because that is not a customary practice in my neck of the woods. I did notice that Publix had a sign posted over the exit door that taking the bags out is just part of their job. They don't expect a tip. I thought it was a cute sign and was relieved to find I'm not the only tourist baffled by the practice of tipping the bag boy or girl.
I never knew tipping was allowed in any Florida supermarket. I worked at Winn-Dixie when I was in high school and we had a no tipping policy. Some people still tipped. I never stood by the trunk waiting for a tip, but I never said no if they offered.
Oh, Albertson's is pretty clean. I used to work at one during high school. I still think Publix has a better shopping experience. Wal-Marts seem to have the best price, but they are huge! It seems like you have to ride the tram from one end to the other!
BARRY: LOL! Some Publix stores are getting bigger too! I will check Goodings out, and if they have some decent Sushi prices, I will buy some, if not, I will go to Epcot for it! I am however, bring my own Water and Soda from home!
If we only need a few things (milk, soda, snacks) I use Gooding's at Crossroads Plaza. They are comparable to the smaller markets in my area here at home. (12 pack of soda $4.99, Gallon of milk $3.00). They have an excellent bakery area (got an easter cake here last year for $6.99). If we're staying in our DVC unit and plan on cooking I usually go to Super Walmart on 192 but for just a few items it's not worth going farther than Gooding's IMHO.
I usually shop at both the Publix at 192 & Xentury Drive and the Goodings. I get basics at the Publix ... and yes, that includes beer . I go to the Goodings for specialty foods. They have a very nice sushi bar, great prepared salads, and other prepared foods ready to microwave. It might be expensive, but belive me their "homemade" mac-n-cheese is cheaper than what you could find at Disney.
Gee... hasn't anyone shopped at Winn Dixie just 1 block down the road (past Olive Garden)at Cross Roads ... anything wrong with that store? I shopped there and found the prices much better than Goodings and no one ( including the hotels) tell you its there!...Why??? Should I know something?
Well, in PA you can only buy it by the case, no six packs and only at special Beer stores... and they always run about $20/some about $35!!! (Thats the good stuff!)
Yuengling runs about $18/ but the Sam Adams we like is about $23/25.. a case lasts the two of us forever...
Tense - I was at Crossroads several times and didn't see WinnDix. What's wrong with me? I wish I had. It would have been a lot easier than driving to Kissimmee. Also I couldn't ever find Walmart. They told me to go to Medieval Times on 192. I never found it! Guys/Gals... you haven't tried beer until you've had NW Microbrew. I haven't seen that in the WDW stores, though, and where does one get "decent" coffee beans done there? I know where the Starbucks is, but I'm looking for more of the microbrew of coffee.
Yaeh... Winn Dixie is across from Romano's Macaroni Grill. I think just past Walgreens. No one ever tells you it's there. I know it is because I shopped there!!! It was clean and much better priced. I just found it funny (I don't know why) that no one ever mentions it!
