Tell me about Dinosaur...

All of us loved it. It's just like Indiana Jones!!

I think IJ is a much, much better ride in terms of plot and themeing.

Something happened to us, collectively, the last time we went on Dinosaur! As we were walking out of the exit area back into Dinoland, we all sort of had the simultaneous thought that we wouldn't care if we never did that ride again. It seemed dated, tired, an unnecessarily loud/rough. And just a few years ago, this was a "must do" for which we would get FPs. We all agreed that this ride needed refreshing more than Test Track did. But to each his own.

Our family went on it for the first time last summer and it was much bumpier and louder than I thought it would be, but will likely roll into our usual things to do if we're over that way. Give it a shot. We're glad we tried it out.

It's fun, but as others have said it is very loud and bumpy and dark. The last time we rode a couple of younger kids in the rover did end up crying hysterically. My own daughter skips it because of the loud factor.

It should be noted that anyone that is sensitive to seizures brought on by flashing lights or strobe lights should either not ride this, or be very aware that the ride is dark a lot, with a lot of bright flashing and strobe lights flickering..

Bumpy, jerky, choppy but not fast and no real drops. The dinosaurs can be quite scary for little ones. My family likes the ride a lot though.

My daughter is 20 now and still hates this ride. Every once in a while she musters up the courage to go on it again but has flashbacks to when she was 5  She keeps her eyes closed through most of it. Cracks me up. But she also hates the dark parts in ITTBAB.

I don't mind the ride but it goes overboard on the volume, but I guess thats what adds to the intensity.

He gets us everytime too. I know he is there, I know he is not real, yet he terrifies us everytime.:scared1:

And he gets me everytime! It is not as intesnse as it used to be. They have "lightened" things up and some dinosaurs don't even work anymore. Anyone remember the teradactyl (SP?) that would swoop the vehicle.

I think what gets me is that it is so loud! So I wear ear plugs and it's fine.

It's got a stupid plot and is too bouncy to really appreciate the scenery. A waste of time and advil (for the neck ache).

Love this ride. Then again, I'm biased because I worked there for 3 years and have ridden it more times than I could count (and it never got old!). It's a "bumpy, jerky jeep ride with dinosaurs attacking"! I actually prefer Indiana Jones in DL because I, in general, prefer Indiana Jones to Dinosaurs, but the ride is almost exactly the same. Same jeeps, same track (except ours is shorter by about 150 yards), different theming. The pterodactyl has been turned off for years because it swooped too low, NOT because it is broken. Unless one of the Carnotaurus' is currently broken, no others have been broken for any extended lengths of time.

Fun fact, there is only one ride at Disney that is more technologically intense than Dinosaur...Tower of Terror. That, and the maintenance guys can make those jeeps jump up and down like a basketball due to the hydraulics...

Now I want to go bring back Iggy from the Cretaceous period...

My ods asked me why the lady behind him was screaming the entire while:lmao: Adults scream like they are being killed on this ride.

I can imagine that the dark/loud/jerky/startling can make one scream.

However.....
my 3 y.o. was completely baffled by a grown woman behind us screaming the entire time on BARNSTORMER. Yeah, the Goofy ride that lasts 20 seconds. THAT ride.
We couldn't tell if she was actually scared or just having fun letting it all go. But it was deafening and terrifed the little kids who were watching the ride from below. lol

This thread has been so helpful! I've been wondering if this ride was something we should try. DS likes dinosaurs but hates dark and hates LOUD even more. Seems like a ride for him to avoid for now. But makes ME interested in checking it out!

Herky Jerky and Twerky. :faint:

I hated it, tried it a few years later, and hated it more.

Trying to hang on was the worst for my arthritic hands and fingers, and I am forty something. Not for me .

Not really scary, but there was the one Dino that startled me and I twisted my neck...I had a stiff neck for over two weeks!!

I don't really care for this ride. It is loud, dark, and extremely jerky. Oh and did I mention LOUD.....too LOUD!

My dd rode it when we went in 2010, she was 4.5 and 44" tall

As far as the actual building and track, yes, it's exact. As far as actual story and coolness, it is a hollow shell.

I think it was the first example of Disney showing how they can spend a LOT of money on a ride that just doesn't deliver like it should. It was Indy 2.0, and is not even close to being in the same league.

I love this ride.

My kids and nephews love it by DW and SIL screamed their fool heads off the entire time....

It is VERY loud and quite a bit bumpy/jerkey.

Overall - pretty cool ride.....

The last time I was at DL, was 2000. I can remember DH and I rode the Indy ride many many times in a row... but somehow when I went on Dinosaur a couple years ago, it just wasn't the same. I hated everything about Dinosaur.... but adored Indy. I guess either in a decade I aged into an old person, or Dinosaur stinks, including the track and theming.

Disagree. Tell that to the kid who is obsessed with Dinosaurs. There are still plenty of them out there. To each there own on theming. The ride is still highly detailed with a complete back story.

I didn't get to go on it b/c it broke down during our trip (while my DH and 2of our kids age 3 and 5) were on it. At the begining of the ride both kids were telling DH that dinosours were dead and long gone and by the end one wanted to know "who feeds the dinosours?" and the other was sure they were coming after him and kept looking back waiting for them to pop up....apparently it is very realistic to young kids or at leat my yound kids.

We LOVE Dinosaur! IMHO it has one of the BEST pre-shows! Be sure and listen, kind of funny, and sets up the story of the ride. It also has a pretty amusing post show on monitors after the ride, that lots of people miss because they are only looking for their picture. It is jerky, but I have a steel rod in my spine, and if I hold on and don't stiffen up, I get along fine!

As many pps have said, it is very much like the Indian Jones ride in DL.

Just a note; I really miss the name CTX-Countdown to Extinction!
