Tell me about Dinosaur at AK

I know it is dark and loud.

1. Are there big drops though?

2. Is it really that jerky?

1. No drops.

2. Very.
Dinosaur is, by far, the ROUGHEST indoor ride at WDW.
(Space Mtn. is right in there, but not for ENTIRE ride!)

Its certainly "tied" for the absolute LOUDEST
bellowing sound effects.

And there is nothing that comes close in the category of
"Pitch-blackness...
then FULL-BRIGHT LIGHTS illuminating
GIANT DINOS with razor-sharp spiked teeth
LUNGING out straight AT YOU
with DEAFENING-ROAR sound effects."

Then,
more VIOLENT shaking,
jack-rabbit ACCELERATION,
sudden hard BRAKING...
and REPEAT.

All that said, I really ENJOY riding this attraction, and do so every trip.

Dinosaur is based on the same ride technology that is used on the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland.

Absolutely PERFECT description...I felt like I was riding it all over again reading that!:lmao:

Still, I couldn't imagine being in the AK and not riding it.;)

I will not ride this ride.... it scared the living bejeesssus out of me!! I would never take a small child on it either! I'm normally a thrill junkie but I draw the line at darkness with jerkiness, loud sounds and being chased by dinosaurs who lunge at you! eeeeeeeeeeeeek :scared1:

Just make sure an adult rides it before taking any children on it... seriously...

It's pretty jerky. The movement of the ride isn't what makes it thrilling though. It's the fact that the dinosaurs are right up in your face and appear like they could actually eat you!

We love it - but it definitely jerks you around and the rover drives likes my 16 year old on the day she first got her permit (prior to learning the art of accelerating and breaking). Its fun, though, and we always "act" more afraid than we are...screaming and making faces for the picture.

Definitely jerky. No riding if you are pregnant or have health issues. Scary for my 4 yo, but he was ok with me riding beside him, with my arm around him.

Primeval Whirl to menus worse! But good descriptions - i definitely have to be in a certain mood for Dinosaur. Will ride if I can get a FP or 15 mon or less standby.

This is exactly it! I road with with one of my ds7 (other two kids refused to ride it), and then he road it again with my husband because I didn't want to so it again. I really didn't like the dinosaur lunging at me! If we skip it on our next trip, I'm ok with that. ;)

I love this ride. It absolutely feels like I'm off road in my Jeep. Which is kinda the point. Imagine driving thru a jungle with dinosaurs chasing after you. A quick left turn. A sudden brake and then sharp turn to right. Driving over fallen trees and large rocks. I love it.

You nailed it. :thumbsup2

Robo nailed it again!! ;)

I absolutely love this ride, but everything he says is true. I also find it very, very scary. The first time I rode it, I screamed in actual terror :rotfl: I also almost always see a little kid coming off crying. Poor little fellas.

I LOVE Dinosaur!! :thumbsup2

Absolutely what Robo and everyone else said-- this ride is nuts! But it's a lot of fun and I wouldn't skip it. I look forward to putting my cousin on it without warning her. She is going to scream her head off and I'm going to die laughing at her. I hope she's sitting on the outside because I like to cower on a middle seat. (She's 20 and will find it funny after it's over-- she can take it!)

I would be much more hesitant to take a small child on. Definitely try to get them toward the middle rather than a seat on either edge since there are dinosaurs so close to the sides. The motion is VERY rough, and as you're being jerked around, it's super loud and dark and things jump out all at once. There's one part right before the picture that's so rough that, when they did take the picture, both myself and a woman in front of me were turned with our hands on a party member (my husband, her child) to ask, "Are you okay?"

I can't describe it without making it sound horrific, and yet I think it's a great time!

I think you got some good descriptions but I wanted to chime in to say that it is my absolute favorite ride at Disney. Love, love, love dinosaur! The jerkiness doesn't bother me but I hated space mountain's jerkiness.

Sounds like a blast. Are you going to take her to all four parks?

It is my least favorite attraction of any theme park. Ever. There's not really any drops but it is very rough and jerky, and there are a couple of parts that are so incredibly loud and high pitched it gave me a headache for hours after. There's also the part right before they take the picture that can be a doozie. If you have kids going with you, I'd ride it by yourself first before letting them on. It was way too rough for my nephew on our March trip, and he's 8. The dinosaurs in the ride are awesome though, and the theming is great. But it is definitely a rough and LOUD ride.

I agree with you, now that I think about it. Space Mountain kind of hurts me. I think I was in the very front last time-- I'm going to aim for a seat somewhere in the middle next time and hope it helps. I always want to like Space Mountain because I love the theme, but I never seem to enjoy the sensation of the ride so much. I usually love roller coasters! I could ride Rock n Rollercoaster all day.

Sounds like a blast. Are you going to take her to all four parks?

I am! We have five nights and six days. She is very excited and says she wants to do everything. She's pretty fearless, so I think we'll have a great time!
