Tell me about deluxe resorts....

We are a party of 6 and usually just get 2 separate rooms. It is me, DH, 7 y/o son, 9 y/o son, and my parents. We will have a car. So, tell me what deluxe you love or recommend or hate and why!!!! Thanks in advance!!

Just to clarify, are you still getting 2 rooms? Unless you are going to stay in a DVC room you won't be able to sleep 5 and the AKL is the only deluxe that does not sleep 5 in their standard rooms. If you are still getting 2 rooms or if you are going to get a larger DVC room then I would go with AKL since you will be closer that next morning to AK and it doesn't seem like you will be spending a ton of time at the resorts if you are still hitting the parks those days. We enjoyed our stay there and my girls were always excited to see what would be outside our balcony each morning or time we came back to the room. We did get 2 connecting rooms, one for me an the girls plus my nience and one for my parents so we had a total of 6 in our group as well.

My choices would be CR (for walkability to MK and the coolness of the monorail going through the hotel), with a TPV if it's in the budget. Otherwise, AKL for quick access to AK and for overall coolness of the resort.

Now that I'm going over this I think CR is the best choice. You can stay at MK until closing and walk over to CR quickly and go straight to bed. For a quick two day stay saving that 1-2 hours of waiting for transportation at the end of the night is huge IMO. Wake up the next day, check out and drive to AK and spend the day there.

I would recommend AKL as well- its a great resort the kids will love it and although its not a monorail resort they have buses- yes its farther away from Magic Kingdom however the monorail resorts are the furthest from AK- its a 20ish minute bus ride either the first day or the 2nd- your choice on that. You cant beat waking up and going out to the balcony to see animals right outside your room.

I would love to do a monorail resort in another 4 or 5 years but this year with a 2 yo we are doing AKL . If MK was your main focus and you were planning a week long trip I would say go with monorail- I have a goal for Poly for next trip, but if I do it- it will be for a week long visit not 1 night as you are doing.

For 1 night AKL would be very magical.

My vote is for a monorail resort - we love all three! However, the CR is the most convenient with the walkway to the MK and that is so important for a one night stay. Then get up in the am, check out and drive to AK. Easy, peasy! You can even have breakfast at the AKL (if you want to spend morning time doing that instead of in Pandora). You can, also, still take a break at the AKL in the afternoon even if you didn't stay there the night before. Or you have the option of a quick drive back to the CR to enjoy the monorail area resorts.

If this is a rare opportunity to stay in a monorail deluxe, this is the time to do it!!! The AKL is much more affordable for a longer visit for another time. :teeth: (Just saying', you may get bitten by the deluxe resort bug and need to stay here in the future. The deluxe resorts in WDW are VERY nice...)

Whichever one you choose, you will have an awesome time! We have stayed in all the monorail resorts and in the AKL and love them all!

Enjoy!!!

My recommendation is the Grand Floridian.

Here are some good videos on Deluxes made by the DIS Unplugged Podcast folks.

Yes, we will still get 2 rooms. Thx
