Tell Me About Codes for Jan. & May 09

I was wondering if anyone could give me some info on codes and how they work. I have always booked my trips though AAA, but I am thinking it might be cheaper to do it on my own with codes. Can anyone tell me where, when and how to find the codes. Also in the past have Jan. or May codes been better. We have been to Disney in May and Aug. but not Jan. We loved May, but did not like Aug. at all (except for our Dis Meetups). Thanks for all your info and help.
