My DS9 is interested in Club Penguin...I've been reading a little about it, but I would like to hear some personal opinions. Do you let your kids play? How old are they? Do you feel comfortable with the site?

I'd like to here any positives and negatives. TIA! :goodvibes

My son is almost 8 and has been playing for about a year. I'm very comfortable with it as they cannot exchange personal information. My son absolutely loves it and even I like playing with him!

Our DS's : one is just 9 and one almost 11 have been playing for just over a year. They both love playing and have many friends from their school who also play. We also have the trading cards! We have had no problems with the site and they have so much fun! We think it's a great site for their age group! :thumbsup2

My dd played it for years. Recently she moved to Wizard 101. I will tell you a story about how strict they are on what is exchanged as they monitor. My dd is very straight laced. A year or two ago, she came to me and said she had been banned for 30 days. I was shocked, so I signed onto the parental part. I was able to see the conversation that got her banned. Apparently someone came in with a penguin and she liked the shirt the penguin was wearing. She wanted to ask where on the site the person found the shirt. Here is what she wrote:

"Where did you get da ****?':rotfl2: Editing to say it was shirt without an "r".

Taught her a lesson in proofreading. Poor thing cried and asked me to write them and tell them she wasn't a bad girl.:lmao::rotfl: I think the site is safe.

We love Club Penguin, my DS 10 has been on that site since he was 7 - I have always felt like it was a safe site, plus there isn't any advertising on it. He isn't on it as much but he still likes it.

I have even played the games!

Another "LOVE IT" here. Both DS11 and DS8 still go on. They've been playing on Club Penguin for 3 yrs. They also have friends from school that they will occassionally meet up with.

FWIW, I believe you can restrict your child from going into any of the rooms with chat if you don't feel comfortable with the penguins chatting with each other.

My son is 9 and got this game on DS for Christmas and he loves it.
I have no problems with it.
He also plays online at home and at school.

Can someone tell me the difference when you pay to play vs just the free version. My son loves to play it (for free) and asked me to buy him a subscription. I am just trying to figure out what more is out there to do if I pay.

My 2 little ones have been playing since they were about 5. It's fine. With the subscription the kids can get better stuff, go better places...the usual stuff pay to play games online. Each of the 2 younger ones have an account and they love to play together...recently the 8 yo told me to9 cancel CP and start up WOW again...uh...I don' think so!;)

my kids have been on for over a year..they are 7 and 9. At first they did the free games then they wante to become a member so i got them a couple of the 5.95 cards to join for a 1 month - they got some as b-day presents as well...i think they just get to play more games do more stuff on it..

Yet another Love it here as well. Especially with my son who is turning 9. Him and his friend down the street are on there all the time. My ds got the 6mos membership for Christmas and he wants a stuffed puffle for his b-day.

My dd13 played it when she was little, and I know my 6 year old niece has been playing for about a year. Dd8 plays it, I believe - your dd will age out of it quickly.

DS (now 11) has been playing it for years. He became a member shortly after they began. He doesn't play it as much as he used to (I think he's outgrowing it), but he really likes it. DS (3) is starting to show interest, but he's still a bit too little to navigate the penguin world.

My 7-year-old niece has been a member since she was 4. You can shop from the catalogs if you're a paying member and there are also events that are for paying members only. You can still have a lot of fun for free, but my niece loves to collect coins so she can buy more clothes. I buy her a yearly subscription every year for her birthday.

I would recommend a trial membership. The cards are $5.95 at WalMart (in fact, I think they might discount to $5.25). You can find them at the front registers or back in Electronics. This is for one month. I know they get to choose special outfits to dress their penguins in, buy special stuff, etc.

All the games are free, though, whether you are a member or not. The card will let you see how much he likes it, and if you want to expand to a 6 month membership.

both of my sons love this ages 9 & 7. we just have the trial membership & they are begging for us to buy it, but we've already bought a membership for toontown!!!!

My boys love it too! They have been playing for about a year now. They are 8 and 9. I think its a really safe site. My boys both get membership gift cards in their Christmas stocking. They seem to like it better than webkins, which is what they used to play before they found club penguin.
