Tell Me About Boma For Dinner ONLY!!

Boma was by far, the best meal on our December trip! I HIGHLY recommend taking the free culinary tour before you eat - they explained everything on the buffet in detail (and free samples over in Jiko too!) The tour meets at 3:45 at the Jiko podium (you can just show up - no reservations necessary) - so make an ADR at Boma for 4:30 or later.

Tara--this culinary tour sounds awesome! A couple of questions for you about it. Do they do this every day? How long does it last? Are kids allowed? And, finally, do you have to be staying at AKL to participate? TIA!

I can't remember all the wonderful things we had, but on 2 occasions we have taken meat & potato people to Boma and they have totally enjoyed their meals.

We went to Boma last week and it was one of my favorite meals! Loved it! I am doing a dining review and will be posting pics and details of this meal soon. The review is call Disappearing Peep Ditches Diet on the DDP. This will be a place we eat at on every trip.

I'm very interested in this too! We are staying at AKL next month and I would love to do this.

The tour is incredible - and free! Check the activities board in the AKL main lobby (on the same walls as the main doors entering reception) but it's usually at 4pm every day. You do not have to be a guest of AKL, and you do not have to sign up ahead of time. I went to the Jiko podium at 3:45, and by 4:05 we started since I was the only one there! They showed me Jiko & explained the decor, then I sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen, where they prepared 3 hummus spreads & some bread for me to try. Delicious! They explained African cooking & culture to me while I ate. That took about 10 min. After that the chef from Boma walked me through the enire buffet & explained what they would be serving. This was great since we had a 6pm ADR & I had never eaten many of the foods there. I didn't get samples at Boma - but they were incredibly busy setting up for an 80-person Christmas party that was insisting on being seated early. My kids & husband did walk up at one point & they urged them to join in, so kids are allowed, but mine went over to the arcade instead. Their loss! This is a fabulous way to check out Boma if you're unsure of what they serve. My kids are picky eaters & my spouse is a true meat & potatoes guy - and we all loved it. The prime rib isn't spiced with African flavors - and the flank steak is only mildy seasoned - and both were excellent when we were there. I tried almost everything & loved it all. The only thing I didn't finish was the chocolate mousse - it was made with liquer and had a very strong liquer flavor which I don't care for.

We have always made Boma part of our Disney trips. We love the variety of foods, there seems to be something for everyone!

Coming from a family whose favorite activity on cruise ships is the galley tour, :rolleyes1 I know everyone will enjoy this. I'll be sure to make an early ADR and check the activities board when we arrive.

:disrocks:

This is fantastic, we are heading to Disney next week for 9 glorious days. Made last minute ADRs for Boma, glad we did. I can't wait to eat there. My wife is a veggie, and daughter is a little picky but I eat like a horse.
Buffets are my thing:goodvibes

Just added it to the list for October. I have shyed away from it but DH has wanted to try, so after reading this I am willing to give it a go.
