Our first computer was an IBM that came loaded with OS2. After a couple days of trying to use it, we gave up and switched to Windows 3.1. I think that was over a hundred floppies.
CDs really were a huge difference in that era. Plus lets be honest the Microsoft bloat was real with Win95. I was on the beta test team through launch, it was fun to be part of that.Fortunately, by about Win95 most new machines started having CD drives, and it could come on one CD, but, yeah, if you were doing it from floppy...! A 3.5" floppy holds about 1.44 MB but a CD could hold 700 MB. It was such a game changer!
I think I still have my Windows 1.0 disks, I think its 9 5 1/4" floppies which probably don't work anymore. Our first computer was an IBM that came loaded with OS2. After a couple days of trying to use it, we gave up and switched to Windows 3.1. I think that was over a hundred floppies.
I did a clean out of a storage bin recently and found a shoebox with 5.25" and 3.5" floppies, including Windows 3.1. Guess I can toss them now.
