Tell me about ALDI...

We have a new ALDI store in our area. I had to just run in and buy one or two things (first time in the store) and I bought the cresent rolls (their brand) They were very good....in fact my family liked the taste better than the Pillsbury brand I usually buy. It reminded me of the groecery stores in Europe. The clerk is seated, you bag your groceries and pay the 25 cents for the loan of the buggy (which you do get back) Overall I think you can find of lot of good deals there!

I never bring in my own bags. (nothing wrong with that though) I always just grab a couple boxes out of their freezer section and use them. I try to find comparable sized boxes, and put one box over the other. It keeps the food cold in a hot car longer that way, and I think its easier to carry in a big box of groceries than several bags. JMHO. Im a guy, and ladies might think otherwise. Besides, I never could remember to bring bags!
Just thought Id add this tiny warning to my previous post: If you DO use their cardboard boxes to bring your grocerys home (and thats a smart thing to do as well) make SURE you take the boxes OUTSIDE as SOON as you are finished putting the grocerys up. We have carried in a roach or roach eggs a couple of times in the past when we left the boxes in the house for a week or so for another use. That rule applies to cardboard boxes you get from ANYWHERE, and ESPECIALLY yard sales and flea markets. Sometimes bugs lay eggs in the crevices of the boxes. You want the boxes outside when they hatch. ;)

I finally saw an Aldi when we were shopping in NJ. I went in but bought nothing. Are all Aldis just 3 or 4 big aisles? I didn't see anything I wanted to buy, there was not much selection at all. I wanted to buy bananas and I did find them in the tiny produce aisle. The one checkout line was long so I just left. Not what I expected.

3DisneyBugs- Yes, the setup is the same at all the Aldi's stores. It's just one of the ways the keep costs down. The long line thing is another example. Less cashiers, less salary to pay out. I was an asst. manager once years ago and we never had more than two people running the entire store.

Unfortunately, stuff varies from store to store. We have one about 15 min from us that I tried once a few years ago but never went back because the items available were VERY limited. Then my aunt from Pittsburgh told me how she got everything for my uncle's retirement party from Aldi's (and it was a bunch of really ymmy stuff!!!) so I decided to give the one by us a try again. Nope. Still the very poor selection I remembered from previous. Fortunately, we have an Amelia's Grocery Outlet by us, so can get some stuff there (best deal I get regularly -- diGiorno's pizzas for $2 and Pillsbury cookie dough for 0.99 -- much cheaper than eating out when I want a break from cooking, or a treat -- we try to avoid junk food)

Oh i love aldies, we will be making our monthly shoping trip there next week, i get all my items there except for fresh meat i get from a butcher shop, and i get bread from the bread store for .29 a loaf, and have to still go to walmart for bathroom stuff, shampoo, depoterate, ect... but we are a family of 5 and only spend/budget $400 a month for all that stuff...

i have one i walk past on the way home from work, great prices , one of the better no frills stores

Can you use coupons at Aldi's?

No you can't. Aldi's doesn't carry a lot of brand named merchandise. Most of their products are their own brand. But they don't take coupons brand named items that you MIGHT have a coupon on... :(

I live in an area wher there are Aldi's all around. I made the "mistake" of not going to my usual Aldi's. I live in what I affectionately refer to as a "ghetto," meaning it's a slightly sketchy neighborhood in the city. I instead went to the Aldi's in a nice neighborhood just about 10 minutes away. What a difference! That Aldi's was half-empty, poorly maintained, and very undesirable. My Aldi's is so luxurious in comparison! I'll stick to my local Aldi's from now on!

I love ALDIs....i can honestly say that all items purchased there are great, except the canned pasta.........

From what I've heard, they're also a pretty good place to work. They're hiring cashiers at our store. They start out just over $11.00/hour with $3.00+ extra for managers.

Have to be very careful of what I buy d/t DS's food allergies. Our Aldi carries some name brands...I just look at the fliers. This week I got Special K blueberry cereal bars for about $1 less than Food Lion or Walmart. Last week Nabbisco cookies were a great deal.
I'd shop here for everything if I could and may indeed do that when I have some time to write down manufactures or make some phone calls from the store to make SURE the items do not contain even traces of certain foods.
