Tell me about Afternoon Tea at Garden View Lounge

Thank you everyone for all the info!! By the way, potted shrimp sound wonderful, and definitely something my mother would enjoy very much...I will have to tell her what it is, and she will be a happy camper!

Here is how I am going to plan out the day...we're DVC members staying on points at BWV (home resort) and plan to pool-hop to the Poly that day (it's not one of the days pool hopping is not allowed, so no worries). We will first go to breakfast at Kona Cafe around 8 or 8:30am. Then, we will head to the Poly pool and have some fun with the boys there. This will be the day the rest of the family arrives at WDW (but the middle of our trip). They are going to be driving there, and the night before they are staying in Savannah, GA. They are planning to leave early in the morning, around 7:30am. It takes about 4 hours to get to WDW from there...we're all anticipating a little longer for bathroom breaks with my nieces. The 4 of us will go back to BWV around 12:30pm to shower and get changed. I think a 3pm ADR for the tea will be good, and we won't feel rushed to get there. We'll all be driving to the GF, so it will only take a few minutes to get there (the rest of the family is staying at the Dolphin, right near BWV).

After the tea, we will head back to our resorts and park our cars, then head over to Epcot's World Showcase to walk around, enjoy the boat ride in mexico, shop, etc. As the evening progresses, anyone can grab a little something to eat from the many CS locations in the WS, as they get hungry. We figure that leaving things flexible by not having a dinner ADR that night will prevent all of us having that sick, stuffed feeling...yet it will allow the kids to eat whenever they need to. Of course, we will also enjoy some drinks at Epcot...HELLO Grey Goose Lemonade Slush! ;)

Sounds like a perfect plan!

Just thought I'd add we do the tea - and its usually just DH, DD, and myself, but we've done a couple of "dis meet ups" there - its a very relaxed enjoyable time - it takes you out of the hustle and bustle of the parks -

DH does like tea - but as others have said, there are other choices! DD the first time we did the tea she was determined to "like tea" and not get Mrs Potts, however, she didnt like the sandwiches, the kind (observant) CM switched out the sandwiches -

the next time we were able to go to the Tea, dd was safely picked a perfect tea - and I dont think it was on the menu - - so I asked the CM and sure enough they had it (I think it was Darjeeling tea - a common tea) Same with the sandwiches, she didnt like one or two and asked if she could have all of the kind she did like - no problems!

and I think we take about 2 hours at the tea - we have gotten refills on the tea too!!

again, we really enjoy the time to communicate and enjoy each other's company!

also it was DD birthday and we ordered the chocolate slipper -

I enjoyed tea at the GF more than I enjoyed tea at Harrod's in London!

DH also liked it very much, but in November I am looking forward to the tea with my best friend while DH and his brother play tennis. We're having a light breakfast & skipping lunch in favor of tea at 2PM, and we have dinner at California Grill that night at 7:50. I know to go easy, as the tea can be very filling.

Sounds fantastic! It's great to know that they will accommodate children by allowing them to get all of one kind of sandwich...we will have to do this for our boys. One of them is pretty picky (but certain menu items will be fine for him so I'm not worried), and the other is allergic to shellfish and can be kind of picky too. I have found that in general, CMs at the WDW restaurants handle children's needs very well. I feel very safe there with DS6's allergy, and there is always something for my kids to eat that makes them happy! :thumbsup2

Wow, better than in London...really?

From the looks of the menu, it could be easy to go lighter at California Grill. You could always go with something like sushi there, which I have read excellent reviews about from Cali Grill!
