Just booked this week. Who was there last year? How were the crowds & weather? OK week to go?

Hey jmkst58

I was there last year at that time. Mar 1- 6 to be exact I believe. It was beautiful! Weather was about 75 degrees and got a little hotter towards the end (82 degrees). Sunny with no rain. In the morning it was cool and warmed up nicely. I started the week wearing jeans and a t shirt and ended up in shorts by week ends.
Never broke a sweat...and I was really liking that considering all the times before I sweated to death.

Lines were great. Average wait I'd say was 5-10 minutes. The longest wait was Dumbo at 45 minutes.

I loved it so much that time of year, I've booked another trip to Disney..again:bounce: Feb 29- Mar 5

Where are you staying?

and so will the cheerleaders (2/27 - 3/1). I praying that the weather is nice, but anything has to be better than the weather we're having in NY right now. I think it's a whopping 20 degrees right now.

Studog - We're staying at the Dolphin (first time), what about you? There seems to be alot of DISers going to be there during that time.

Hopefully I can meet some of my "friends."

Thanks studog for the report!! *Hoping for the same*

01SweetPea...cheerleaders? didn't know that. Thanks for the warning. I agree about the weather! I think it was 7 degrees here yesterday. ughhhh.

I'm splitting my stay between WLV & BWV. I like to split stays, actually.

Have a WONDERFUL time. See you there.

Thanks,

Jeanie

this time frame encompases bike week at daytona. that event should have little or no effect on WDW attendance, but it might be something to keep in mind if you have to travel near or thru Daytona. It is not uncommon to run into wicked trafic in that area. Also, bikers everywhere and most not wearing helmets. Keep an eye out for them, they can get lost in your blind spot very easily. (We say a tragedy happen while visiting during Biketoberfest in 2001.)
we are going at this time also, and will actually be swinging over to Daytona for a motocross event and to check out Jessie James and the guys from OCC. - love them from the discovery channel and they have the coolest bikes!!!

loriandmatt....You're kidding? My DH will be so excited. He's always wanted to go to FLA for bike week. Can't believe I didn't look up when it was this year. THANKS!

How far is Daytona from WDW? DH would LOVE to spend even just a day there. OCC isn't very far from where we live, about 35 minutes!! I got DH OCC and WCC shirts for Christmas this year, and now it's all he wears, he's giving the Harley tees a rest for a while.

01Sweetpea- We're staying at Old Key West

Thanks for the warning about the cheerleaders and bikers. I didn't recall seeing any of those while there that same time last year.

01sweetpea...for some reason I'm drawing a blank about the exact time it takes...but I know it's no more than an hour & a half. Definitely an easy drive. Maybe someone else knows.

Hi everyone!
My family will be in WDW from 2/29 to 3/4. We are doing the disney cruise first from 2/26 to 2/29. I would love to know if anyone else has been at this time of year and how crowds were. We are staying at Pop Century. Any info about this time of year would be great.

My DH (who is giddy about the prospect of going to the Supercross race on the 6th) clocked the milage from FW parking lot to the Speedway parking lot at 73.6 miles. In time, on a light trafic day it is about an hour and a half perhaps two from WDW to Daytona. With bike week trafic i would allow plenty more time.
here is the link for the official bike week home page. they have plenty of info about the goings on for the week.

just a note: to each his/her own when it comes to your children, but IMHO most Bike Week activities are not for kids. We are taking DS (9) to the Supercross race at the Speedway, but we will be taking him right there and taking him right back afterwards. He is bummed that he can't go with us to see the discovery channel guys with their bikes, but he is just too young for a night event and all the scantily clad females that will sure to be out and about. We will be leaving him with friends that live in Clermont.

I didn't even think about my kids (boys 11 & 8). Oh well, since DH knows nothing about this, I think I'll just conventiently FORGET to mention this to him.

Studog - I wouldn't be to concerned about the cheerleaders. DH's girls are heading to the parks on Fri afternoon, and possibly on Saturday, depending on their practice schedule. Sunday is competition (all day), and Monday they fly home. Lucky for DH & I we then stay 5 more days!!!
