Due to work and schedules, I'm looking at the end of June into July 4th weekend. I know it's going to be HOT, crowded, and more expensive. I will be with a 7 year old and 81 year old (grandma is still a world traveler and the heat doesn't bother her). It will be first trips for both of them! :cool1:

Both of them can go all night with some down time during the day. I know I'll have to capitalize on this.

My other choice is going for 4 nights next fall but I'm really worried it will be too rushed for everyone vs the 6 nights I can do when school is out. Am I right?

People who have been during this time- tell me some good things about this time of year :thumbsup2

Sorry I can't answer, but wanted to know as well - we want to go to the Nascar race in Daytona on July 2nd and thought we'd combine that with our yearly trip to the world. popcorn::

We were at WDW on July 4th in 2006. It was very hot, but we went to the resort pool in the afternoon and then came back for the special fireworks. It was very cute and patriotic that day. A lot of red, white, and blue. CMs handed out flags and little pins at MK before the parade. It was how I imagined an old-fashioned 4th of July on Main Street. It was very hot, but people seemed in good spirits. Overall, it was a fun trip.

Hi,

Here are a few good things about July 4 wekend:

It's very easy to pack.
You don't have to worry if the weather will be too cold to swim.
Parks are open very early and very late.
You won't have to worry about things being "open seasonally."
Very few attractions will be undergoing refurbs.

Enjoy your trip!

We were there this year over the 4th of July and had a great time, yes it was crowded but the trip before this was over New Years so it did not seem that bad. Plan for crowds, sounds like you are ready for the heat, take mid-day breaks for a swim, nap or just relax,if in the parks and it's hot plan to hit some of the attractions that have a/c it helps to cool you down. Another thing we used were something we call cool collars it is a hankerchief type of wrap that you soak in water then we put in the frige overnight yhen just wrap around your neck and it also cools you down.( Sorry but do not know what type of accomadations you are staying @ if you will have frige acces or not) we stay @ DVC units or pull our RV there.
Any way it is a great time to go and I would go just to have the extra time to not have to rush you trip.

My family went to WDW over the 4th of July a few years ago and it was honestly one of the BEST trips we've had to WDW (and we're DVC since 1993 so we've been there 20+ times). The good things about it:

You can see the special 4th of July fireworks at Magic Kingdom on July 3rd to avoid going to MK on that busy day. (We watched them from the Poly beach, which was amazing, IMO but it doesn't matter if you see them in the park.)

On the 4th of July, we watched a special DHS fireworks show Sorcery in the Sky and then took the boat over to EPCOT and saw the special 4th of July Illuminations. So we managed to see all of the fireworks without having to pick and choose.

Also, we were able to hit the parks at rope drop and get everything we wanted (and more, with multiple rides) by early afternoon, took a break at the hotel, and were able to head back to a park at night to just wander/hit a few attractions. We've also done this during Christmas and found that it worked PERFECTLY and the parks were never too crowded.

IMO, the 4th of July is such a nice time to go to Disney because it is filled with that Patriotic feeling. As long as you head out with a plan you will have a great time and will not feel overwhelmed!

Enjoy your trip - any Disney trip is sure to be magical!

We're doing the same thing and I am coming down armed with a plan but am very nervous about it being mobbed.

ClayinCT: Thanks for the vote of confidence. That's my plan exactly so hopefully it'll be great. BTW, I spent many, many years of my life getting off the Merritt at exit 58 to go to my wonderful grandparents' house!

We were there 4th of July 2010. We went July 4 - 10. Yes it was crowded and it was hot but it was also fun. I have been the end of July into August and mid-Sept. and during both of those trips I felt the heat and humidity were much worse. The crowds were heavy but as the week went on they got lighter. We use fast pass as much as we can and when we all start to get cranky we go back to the hotel to chill out and swim, relax, etc... We watched the MK fireworks standing outside the MK. We took the boat over from WL stood near the entrance and watched then got on the boat and went back to WL. The fireworks are awesome.
Definitely have a plan. Know where you want to go in the AM and PM (if your park hop). Make your dining reservations as soon as you can - there were plenty of people trying to get into the popular restaurants without reservations. They were stunned when they were told there was nothing available. We were at LeCellier waiting for our reservation when someone walked up and wanted to know how long the wait was - the hostess said she could get them in for dinner next week!
Hope this helps! Enjoy your trip!

They usually show the special 4th fireworks several times that week. Pick one of those times to tour Fantasyland. Because it was late and everyone was seeing the fireworks we were able to zip all around FL and ride lots of things. Also during this time, we were the last people to get in to see some of the characters in toon town (I know it is no longer there) and it was amazing! They played with us, spent extra time with us, and get goofed around in general (pun intended!)

Just bring lots of water and patience. One good thing, parks are open super late. Even as adults, go back to the room in the middle of the day and take a rest. You will not miss much and it is amazing how great you will feel.

Have Fun!
