*** Television Winter 2011 ***

Primeval, Merlin and Being Human, awesome week looms!

Same timeline as the UK for Merlin and Primeval?

BBC America been aiming for that in recent years, with their series, but I'm not sure.

But don't include Being Human in that... we're talking about the Syfy version, here.

Being Human's not in that list but only downside of loving British TV is the timeline factor.

I've heard a lot of good things about The Cape... well, sort of. Most of what I've read is shock and astonishment that it wasn't terrible... I'm not sure that's quite the same thing. :)

Off the Map also premieres this week. I've gone back-and-forth a few times on it... actually, I haven't. Everytime I read something about the show, I find myself saying to myself, "Gosh I should be watching this show, right?" But I always end up with the same answer: "No." I just don't feel like I need "Grey's Anatomy with snakes and monkeys". :)

How about you? Any plans to check out any of the new shows?

Incidentally, in case folks haven't heard: Besides this winter's prequel series "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena", Starz will be moving ahead with a second season of "Spartacus: Blood and Sand", recasting the lead role given Andy Whitfield's inability to continue.

At the point now everyone show I start watching get cancel. I love Medium and undercovers. I don't even watch ABC for nothing except sports. NBC going the same way if they take off Law and Order.

All left for watch is CBS CSI, NCIS, Criminal minds that it.

Are you going to check out the Criminal Minds spin-off?

Regardless, every show is going to get canceled some day. You've listed a bunch of shows that have lasted a really long time, among your favorites, so you're pretty lucky.

I'll be checking out Being Human. One nice thing about Syfy shows is that them having lower ratings doesn't usually rattle Syfy too much at least not at first.

Yeah, so the ratings for Stargate Universe must have been shockingly low. :)

Early renewals announced today by ABC:

Grey's Anatomy
Modern Family
Castle
Private Practice
Cougar Town
The Middle

More renewals from Disney: The following ABC Family shows will be returning for another season: Pretty Little Liars; Secret Life of the American Teenager.

I am really bummed they canceled Medium...I really enjoyed that show, and things have been getting more interesting with the daughters having the dreams now too...

I am finding I am watching a lot less scripted TV...my old standby..The Office, just has not been as funny as in previous seasons...any word on how its doing in the ratings...but I am looking forward to Parks and Recreation coming back...

We tried watching the primier of The Cape last night on NBC. I think that must be the worst thing I've ever watched on television. My husband and I made it through 40 minutes and that was only because we thought perhaps the other was enjoying it.

If this show makes it; I'm going to donate all of my TVs to charity.

I watched too and stopped after the first 45 minutes. It reminds me of two competing super hero shows from the 70s (not The Great American Hero. Before that). My mind is drawing a blank at the moment, but they were both equally campy and short lived.

I watched it, all the way though, though only because my wife insisted. It was bad. Not sure how it got this far through the production process. That happens very rarely, imho.

Anyone who couldn't tell The Cape was going to suck based on the previews please stand up...

Anyone?

Anyone?

Beuhler?

;)

Firefly got cancelled and crap like this gets thrown at us instead. Ugh.

To be fair, this show probably cost a heck of a lot less than Firefly. Did you see how much they relied on simple darkness rather than expensive special effects?

On the other hand, a cable show that premiered on Sunday looks promising. Shameless features William R. Macy in a role unlike any I've seen him in and a pretty good supporting cast. It's quirky, in the mode of Californication.

Long-awaited epic Terra Nova will be on Fox's Fall 2011 schedule, but apparently they're far-enough along that they're confident that they can provide us a two hour preview, May 23-24.

Fox had done something similar with Glee.
