*** Television Summer 2010 ***

First, I think you should give it a second try ... it is a great show. :thumbsup2

Second, the show is, generally, episodic, rather than arc-driven, so while there are elements of continuity that could be lost on you, on occasion, I think of Warehouse 13 more like Eureka, than like Fringe, so I don't think you'd be lost, starting to watch the series now.

If you want, you could do about ten minutes of reading and be pretty-much "caught up" on the continuity elements;

http://warehouse13.wikia.com/wiki/Claudia_Donovan
http://warehouse13.wikia.com/wiki/Irene_Frederick
http://warehouse13.wikia.com/wiki/Arthur_Nielsen

And you really do need this next page, to catch you up to what you missed in the Season 1 finale:

http://warehouse13.wikia.com/wiki/James_MacPherson

If you've got more than ten minutes, you might also find these pages useful, but not necessary, to "catch up":

http://warehouse13.wikia.com/wiki/Warehouse_13
http://warehouse13.wikia.com/wiki/Artifacts
http://warehouse13.wikia.com/wiki/The_Tesla
http://warehouse13.wikia.com/wiki/The_Farnsworth

Keep in mind that those pages will be updated over time - you want to read them as they are today, since they don't spoil anything coming up in Season 2 (yet).

For anyone else jumping late onto the Warehouse 13 bandwagon like I am, SyFy is showing the last four episodes of season 1 leading up to the season 2 premier.

But, where's the rum at?

I think I missed the first two. Time to go back to Tivo and update my To Do list :goodvibes

Finally got around to watching The Forgotten. It felt weird watching them out of order from the final episode that I had all ready seen. One scene inparticular would have been great to have seen before the final.

Premieres:
Eureka (Syfy)
Haven (Syfy)
It was nice to have Warehouse 13 back. I wasn't actually as happy about it, though, as I wanted to be. The season premiere was a bit stilted imho. The characters didn't seem to have the same chemistry as I recall from the end of last season, and the explanations of how things worked out, after last season's finale, didn't really gel for me.

Eureka was very interesting. I think it is safe to say that the season premiere was different, both from what the series has been in the past, and what it will be going forward. It is clearly just setting the scene for the promised setting of the world on its head, that is the foundation of this coming season. However, I think the idea that the main characters are going to be struggling against the idea that their time-travel has radically disrupted history, especially since on the surface some of those changes are very-much for the better, is going to be very interesting. And I think once they get beyond this set-up, that they used the first episode of the season to accomplish, a lot more of the humor will return.

After reading all the negative comments for Haven, I wasn't optimistic, but I found that all the criticisms were unfounded - the show was excellent - exactly what my wife and I enjoy. We thought it was a great mix of mystery and humor. (I was rolling on the floor when Parker said, "What am I going to do? Pull out another gun?" ) I thought that Agent Parker would be a bit much for Emily Rose to pull off, but she was actually very good. I'm sorry that so many other folks didn't get it. Hopefully, enough of the rest of us do that it'll survive a long time.

First, I would like to say thank you to Bicker. First time reading this thread, and I am happy to say that I can now prove to my wife that I know hardly anything about the TV season. :happytv:

Second, we really enjoyed Haven the other night. The jury is still out on what the deal is with the town (have not read the short story yet), but it has us hooked. And I agree with the humor in the comment about pulling out another gun.

I haven't read the short story, either, but promotional materials for the television series seems to indicate that the television series begins where the Stephen King story ended, so reading the short story will likely not shed any light on where the television series is going.

Saturday, July 10
Premieres:
The Bridge (CBS)
This was a two-hour premiere. I've read a lot of stuff about this show that has alternatively led me to believe something in-between "don't expect much" (on the positive side) and "bad bad bad" (on the negative side). I suppose I need to continually work to ignore the rampant curmudgeony that we encounter in such volume these days. It isn't a great show - I'm not going to expect to see Aaron Douglas nominated for an Emmy for his role - but it's a good show, better than a lot of the over-hyped, over-venerated crap that survives year after year. Yes, The Bridge is a little overly melodramatic and a bit over-the-top in other ways, but it has decent production values and looks at the often-ploughed subject-matter of urban policing from a perspective that is relatively uncommon (i.e., from the union's standpoint, and especially interesting, I feel, in the context of LA, given its history of enmity between citizens and police).

Next Week
Premieres:
The Glades (A&E), The Closer (TNT), Rizzoli & Isles (TNT), White Collar (USA), Covert Affairs (USA), Psych (USA)
I'm not planning on checking out the Glades, but I will record it, and may sneak it in, especially if we encounter an unexpected fall-through of certain plans we have for next weekend. Beyond that, everything else that is starting up this week is something that we're going to be watching. (We're dropping Netflix down to the minimum, now that the "good" summer shows are starting up.) Rizzoli & Isles looks incredibly promising - on par with its lead-in, The Closer - and I'm betting that Covert Affairs will be better than White Collar was last year (and it was pretty good), so much so that I'm betting we'll be watching Covert Affairs each week, and leaving White Collar on the DVR until we have nothing better to watch.

Anyone planning on picking up any of these new or newly-returning shows, this week?

Eureka was very interesting. I think it is safe to say that the season premiere was different, both from what the series has been in the past, and what it will be going forward. It is clearly just setting the scene for the promised setting of the world on its head, that is the foundation of this coming season. And I think once they get beyond this set-up, that they used the first episode of the season to accomplish, a lot more of the humor will return.

I've always liked Time Travel related stories. Two of my favorite movies are Frequency and The Final Countdown. I like the premise that unlike other similar situations, where they end up setting everything right, it sounds like Eureka may be going with the changed timeline for a while.

I've got my DVR set for Haven (Just need to watch the first episode), The Closer (I've been watching repeats, can't wait!), Rizzoli & Isles (Love Angie Harmon! I was really into her other show that got canceled; Woman's Murder Club) and The Glades. We only have the one DVR so I'm very happy that some of these shows are shown again at an early morning time slot.

Don't ask me why, but Rookie Blue has been renewed for a second season.

No, not "bad", really. It's not anything special, though, and dozens of television series were canceled this year that were much better than Rookie Blue.

The other new Big 4 network cop series this summer, The Bridge, is better.

Scuttlebutt is that Rookie Blue was renewed (and so early) as a diplomatic measure, because it is a Canadian series and ABC wants to play nice with their partners in Canada.

EDITED: Just for comparison, new series Haven, on Syfy (cable!), did 50% better than Rookie Blue did this past week. It's pretty bad when a cable show on Friday night (one of the least-watched nights of television) does better than a broadcast network show does on Thursday night (one of the most-watched nights of television) - much less 50% better!

I am really hopeful for Psych this season...last season was not the best and it was hard to stay with it through the end.

I'm catching up on White Collar for tommorow and was I the only one thinking Parker should have just said something to Alec last night?

I was very pleasantly surprised by The Glades. That one is on my list of must-sees for sure.

I enjoyed Warehouse 13. They packed a lot into one episode and maybe that's why the chemistry seemed lacking to you?

Haven looks promising so far too.

I'm catching up on White Collar for tommorow and was I the only one thinking Parker should have just said something to Alec last night?

Parker has relationship issues. Of course she should have, but it'sm hard for her.
