*** Television, Summer 2009 ***

Wipeout! That show is too much fun!

Dates for True Blood out? Gotta program the TiVo :)

The 11th season has been ordered, and casting applications were due by May 4. No premiere date has been announced yet, but expect Big Brother to premiere in early July.

We tend to use shows from Discovery Channel and History Channel and Travel Channel as filler... here's one we're going to record for that purpose:

Twenty miles off the coast of eastern Africa, four modern-day explorers are sailing toward the unknown, the deep interior of Tanzania. They’ll travel 970 miles through African terrain that is as stunning as it is fraught with danger. Using only a compass and basic maps, they will attempt to recapture the spirit of one of the world’s most remarkable adventures—journalist Henry Morton Stanley’s perilous 1871 journey to find Dr. Stanley Livingstone. Their historic exploration has been captured by one of the premiere storytellers of our time, Mark Burnett, for the eight-part television event, EXPEDITION AFRICA: STANLEY & LIVINGSTONE.

^^ Regal Cinemas has been showing previews of that show during their "First Look" thing (the previews that are on before the previews!)

Looks intense. Like real-life Survivor.

Thanks! The Tivo is going to be busy once again (True Blood, Torchwood, Turdors, Psych and a few others as needed).

I just found out that ABC is canceling "The Unusuals"... which figures, because it was -- once again -- the ONE show I had really gotten into. Fantastic cast, characters you give a crap about, all-around great show. WTH is wrong with ABC, that they cancel every single intelligent, quirky show, yet renew things like "Better Off Ted"???

I haven't seen this one mentioned here ...

ABC will be showing the final 4 episodes of Dirty Sexy Money this summer, starting in July. It won't be back after that, but nice to have some closure for the series.

In addition, ABC is burning off the final four episodes of Eli Stone, and the final three episodes of Pushing Daisies. All three shows, Dirty Sexy Money, Eli Stone, and Pushing Daisies, will be shown in the Saturday night 10PM time slot, Pushing Daisies first (starting May 30), then Eli Stone (starting June 20), then Dirty Sexy Money (starting July 18).

Hmm.

Out of that list, pretty much the only show I'm even slightly interested in is Glee.

So I think I'll DVR it and watch it. But, to follow other musical TV shows, I doubt it will last long.

So the backlog we had of series finales have just-about dried up. We have The Mentalist remaining, and that's it for Spring 2009. We started Netflix up again, and watched the first few episodes of True Blood. They're pretty good. Tonight we'll start going through the backlog of Breaking Bad and Reaper episodes we have recorded, since we won't get another disc from Netflix until at least Wednesday, due to the holiday.

Actually, going back to Spring 2009 stuff... Medium is actually still being broadcast... there was another episode this past Monday, and then there will be the season finale next Monday.

I'm a little perturbed that NBC is calling next Monday's episode, "The Finale", even though the show will continue next season on CBS. It isn't like NBC doesn't know about that. They're also using a tagline, "... may be Allison's last vision ..."

I suppose it will get a few more people to tune in next Monday night, and based on that, and the fact that it is A finale (:)), and that they're not saying that it "is" Allison's last vision, the promo patter is justified, but Medium fans should rest assured that Medium, and Allison, will return next season.
