*** Television, Fall 2009 ***

The Beautiful Life (CW) becomes the first cancellation victim of the new season.

For now, Melrose Place reruns will fill the time slot.

Taking a page from cable, the upcoming series "V" will be split into two mini-seasons. The first four episodes will be broadcast this fall, starting on November 3, and then the remaining nine episodes will be broadcast starting after the Winter Olympic Games.

I had added both of those, plus some others, to the Television Show-specific Threads list in the first message of this thread.

THANKS, bicker, for this thread!! ::yes:: This is my official TV reference thread!!! :happytv:

Did anyone watch The Forgotten (Tuesday)? It was a definite hit here! :thumbsup2
It reminds me of The Others, and not just in good ways. I think it sits in the unenviable position of being the weakest show on ABC right now (taking into consideration costs as well as potential ratings). I think fans of the show are well-advised to gird themselves for whatever eventuality may come.

I thought Community was so-so. There were a couple of parts that really made me laugh but there seemed to be more that was almost painful to sit through.
I find that to be the case with anything Chevy Chase is in, and it's been that way for at least twenty years.

I'll probably catch it in repeats but it's certainly no competition for Fringe in our house.
We'll record it on our kitchen DVR. Maybe it'll be watched in the background while we're cooking.

Eastwick...I'm on the fence about this one. I'll give it another shot but it really seemed to be all over the map in the pilot last night. I hope it gets into a groove because it's got a great cast.
I found it a lot better than I expected it to be. I had originally thought it was going to be the weaker ABC drama this fall, but I've revised my take on it.

How do folks feel about Mercy? I thought there was one good scene and then the rest was disappointing. I think it sits in the danger spot for NBC, now, just like The Others sits in that spot for ABC -- but of course, with NBC, we haven't seen Trauma yet.

The season is coming into a little better focus now, and so the various Renew/Cancel Indices are becoming interesting.

This one is pretty:

Spoiler TV: Are your shows safe from Cancellation? Check the SpoilerTV Renew/Cancel Index

This one is generally very accurate:

TV by the Numbers Renew/Cancel Index

The surprises for me:

1) Castle is doing so poorly. I didn't expect it to be renewed in the first place, and so I expected it to fail this year, but not so quickly or so precipitously.

2) Cougar Town is doing so well.

3) Melrose Place is doing so poorly.

4) Vampire Diaries is doing so well.

5) Community is doing so well.

I'm not surprised that Flash Forward is doing so mediocre: It is on up against a lot of really good stuff, and Vampire Diaries is doing very well for CW.

Bicker, I have tried searching but I can't find anything about Peter MacNichol leaving Numb3rs. Or is his character just not going to be at the university? Do you know anything about this?

Thanks,
Kim

This is what I found:
...Peter MacNicol's Larry will disappear for a chunk of the season to gain a new perspective on things.

Budget cuts forced producers to trim his episode order for the season.

Ausiello isn't perfect, but he's usually got some reliable info.

Dumb question but when did Sweets (John Francis Daley) become a full time cast member on Bones?

And for Fox what is getting bumped for baseball (I'm thinking for Fringe, House, Dollhouse and Bones)?

Very beginning of this season.

And for Fox what is getting bumped for baseball (I'm thinking for Fringe, House, Dollhouse and Bones)?
It actually has changed in the last week or so, but according to my own personal records (I have all four of those series set up on my TiVo, so my scraper keeps track of their planned preemptions)....

Code:
Broadcast	Program S	#	Episode
10/12/2009	House 6	5	Instant Karma
10/15/2009	Bones 5	5	A Night at the Bones Museum
10/15/2009	Fringe 2	5	Dream Logic
10/16/2009	Dollhouse	2	3	(preempted by baseball)
10/19/2009	House 6	6	Brave Heart
10/22/2009	Bones 5	5	(preempted by baseball)
10/22/2009	Fringe 2	5	(preempted by baseball)
10/23/2009	Dollhouse	2	4	N/A
10/26/2009	House 6	7	N/A

11/5/2009	Fringe 2	5	(preempted by baseball)
11/6/2009	Dollhouse	2	6	N/A
Note that some of the preemptions are for games that might not be needed, in which case Fox has said that they will present reruns from last season.

Fox just posted their schedule for December. Here are the dramas, showing the reruns and preemptions (only):
Code:
12/7/2009	House	(preempted for Carrie Underwood)
12/7/2009	Lie To Me	(preempted for Carrie Underwood)
12/14/2009	House	(rerun)
12/16/2009	Glee	(preempted for So You Think You Can Dance)
12/21/2009	House	(rerun)
12/21/2009	House	(rerun)

12/24/2009	Bones	(rerun)
12/24/2009	Fringe	(rerun)
12/25/2009	Dollhouse	(rerun)
12/25/2009	Dollhouse	(rerun)
12/28/2009	House	(rerun)
12/28/2009	Lie To Me	(preempted preempted for extra House rerun)
12/29/2009	Lie To Me	(rerun)
12/29/2009	Lie To Me	(rerun)
12/30/2009	Glee	(preempted)
12/31/2009	Bones	(rerun)
12/31/2009	Fringe	(rerun)
Seems to me that there is one fewer week of reruns/preemptions as compared to previous years.
