I know telemarketers are just trying to make a living like the rest of us, but I am still sick and tired of getting a call EVERYDAY! I don't even want to answer my phone anymore because chances are, it's just going to be someone asking me to do a survey, buy something, etc.. I've kept track during this last week and I've had at least one telemarketer EVERYDAY!!!!!!!! I'm thinking of getting call display for this reason. It's always around dinner time too when dh and I are enjoying dinner and talking about our day. Do other people get this many telemarketers phoning too???

Have you put your number on the National Do Not Call Registry? www.donotcall.gov

She's Canadian. Do they have their own version of the do not call list up North? Down here, you can be put on the do not call list and violaters can be fines substantially. Additionally, if someone calls and you request to be taken off their list they must comply. If they call back they can be fined.

We used to have several a day until we signed up for the do not call list.

I just got 2 calls today at school from telemarketers. Within the span of about 10 minutes.  Lately they have been calling a LOT, and I am so sick of it. They'll ask for me or my roommates, and I usually tell them we're not available. The one guy asked me today asked if there was anybody else available who was over 18...I said no (and I'm 20...)

Thanks everyone. I'll have to check but I think there is a "do not call" up here too. I think it's worth investigating. Nice to know I'm not alone! Ugh!

I love caller ID. I don't pick up any number which is "private" or "800" or "888" Anyone I really want to talk to will leave a message.

I always had an unpublished & unlisted number. I NEVER got telemarketing calls. Then my husband said he didn't want to pay extra for that, and the calls started. I think it was money well spent.

We are now on the Do Not Call list, but we are still getting calls from charities and stuff, more then when we were unlisted/unpublished.

I usually just tell the telemarketer that they have the wrong number. If they want to talk further, I say they've called a business line. They usually appologize for the interruption.

I quit MCI phone service when they started charging a dollar to send paper bills. Now I get two phone calls a day trying to get me back. No, no and no. I have even used the "please do not call me again," which is supposed to be honored, but to no avail.

Just tell them that you have no use for phone service, as you don't own a phone. That usually confuses them enough to get them to stop calling, for at least a little while.

And I believe the phrase you have to use is "Put this number on your do not call list"

I also LOVE having caller ID, it lets me ignore telemarketers as well as MIL's frequent calls!

We are on the do not call list as well. It has worked like a charm. :thumbsup2

Before we signed up, we got TONS of calls at all hours of the night, even on Sundays. We figured it out though. We had Caller ID and when DH would see that it was a telemarketer, he would tell our then 2 year old to pick up the phone. After a few minutes of baby babble that got them nowhere, they always hung up and DS thought he was so cool. :lmao:

I get them at work! How annoying is that? I don't get many at home anymore...I have caller ID and never answer the phone unless I recognize the number.

I don't know about Canadian law, but I always tell them to take me off their list. They're supposed to not call me back. However, the Red Cross let me know that that law does not apply to them.

And here's how you deal with that: Agree that you'll donate $200 at the end each year to the Red Cross -- with one proviso. Each time they call you, you'll deduct $20 from your annual donation. If they leave you alone, they'll get more money.

When a non-profit calls I ask if they are a paid soliciter, if they say yes (and they are supposed to tell you if they are) I tell them I don't donate money through paid soliciters.
