Can I just tell you how MAJORLY ticked off I was?

We have caller ID, but it showed up as a private number, and at 7am, I figure it's either family or DH's coworkers. So I hand the phone to him to answer.

Of course it's for me, and she wants to talk about consolidating my student loans. When I heard that, I asked if she knew it was 7am. She said she did, but they like to call in the morning before work. I reminded her again that it was 7am, and I didn't appreciate being woken up to this - and she says 'we're just trying to help you with your debt!'

I told her I wanted my name and number taken off her list IMMEDIATELY because she woke me up and I would NEVER do business with any company that wakes people up at 7am - if she couldn't do that, I wanted to speak with her manager. (I should add that she argued with the entire time, I can't remember what else I said, but she kept arguing over what I was telling her. A nice person would just say 'I'm sorry, I'll call back later' not continue to argue with a halfasleep person)

Then I got a click. Completely hung up on me.

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!

I hate starting a morning like that.

Don't they have rules about appropriate times to call? I mean, I don't appreciate getting calls past 8pm or 9pm either. I did sign up for the Do Not Call list but it takes 3 months, and even then I'm not sure student loan places count...?

ARGH.

What is going on with this student loan consolidation. We have at least 3 a night. Then they ask for either my son or daughter. Somebody must have gotten a hold of a data base with student loans.

Here in NJ we have a "Do Not Call" list. It was through the state govt., I believe. We did it online - just plugged in our phone no. and it works great. It eliminated 95% of telemarketers.

Can you say against the law.....before 8AM and after 9PM.....We also did the telemarketer thing and it worked wonders!

They can't call before 9am or after 9pm. You can report violating companies to the FCC. If it happens again, get the name of the company and the name of the person you speak with, and end the call by saying you'll be reporting them!

THAT should get them to stop!

We have had people calling us about DH's student loans also. 3 times a day! He wasn't even home, he was at work! I told them to take us off of the list. He gave me the same "we are trying to help you" spiel. I told him I had already talked to 2 other people today and I was tired of it. And he said if they took us off of the list we would never be able to get this "low" offer again. Fine with me!

Haven't heard from them since. And we are doing fine without them. :smooth:

Oh, man, I'd be fuming! We had a pollster call at 10:30pm back in October. These people tick me off so badly.

Since we got on the Do Not Call Registry, we never get telemarketer calls anymore. If you are on the registry, I think you can only get calls from pollsters, charities or organizations with whom you have en established relationship.

I wonder if one of the people who called you about the student loans is affiliated with the company who holds the loans. Mine were through College Foundation, Inc. I suppose if I had other loans with other companies, CFI could call me and ask me to consolidate them. BTW - I am happy to report I paid off all my loans this past summer. What a great feeling.

Denae :sunny:

Get on the nationwide do not call list. That will put an end to intrusive sales calls.

We added our name to the do not call list here in Indiana a few years back and now we hardly ever get any calls from those "buggers." I remember they used to call early in the morning or late at night and I just loved to tell them off and hang up on them. Didn't stop them from calling the very next day though. Thank goodness we don't have to deal with them very often anymore.

I'm sorry, I put FCC, it should be FTC (Federal Trade Commission).

Carry on!

MCI used to call me at 8am - 8:30am every morning waking me up. Two weeks out of the month I work until 1am, so those calls did not make me a happy camper. I wouldn't asnwer the phoen but I could see it was them through the caller ID.

I called them up and said I wanted to be taken off their list and they said that it may take a few days. I was so livid. I didn't want to have to be awoken every morning because of these people (I like to keep a ringer on in case there is a dire emergency, my parents are older). Finally I got someone to take me off the list.

This happened when I first moved to my present residence. As soon as my number went through the Do Not Call system, it has been much quieter here. I do occasionally get a stray call, but as soon as I tell them that I am on the do not call list, they appologize and I never hear from them again.

I have to wonder if telemarketing even works. Exactly who are they targeting when they're vilified-apparently- by so many?

It works or they would have quit long ago.

This call broke several laws,
1) time - they aren't allowed to call that early. I think 9am is correct but some states have different rules.
2) they are required to show their name & number on the caller id
3) if you ask to be put on their do not call list they have 30 days to comply but it should immediately end that series of calls

If you've signed up for the FTC list it will probably start helping before the 90 days are up.
