Hi
Anyone have experience using those teething tablets? I saw them at Wal-mart and wondered if they helped. DD has been going through teething bouts for three months and no chompers yet. She hates the orajel and I'm not sure it even works for her. Let me know if they are any good or not worth it! Thanks so much!!!:goodvibes

i tried everything with my first 2 kids. yes even the tablets. nothing ever made them seem comfortable.
with my 3rd child i didnt bother with any of it, he was never more uncomfortable than the first two. if anything he was more comfortable because i wasnt constantly shoving things in his mouth.

:rotfl: I often wonder about that too...if I quit trying to make things better, maybe they will be! I stopped pretty early on with the orajel because I realized that I didn't even know where she was hurting. Plus, I tried some after I got something stuck between two teeth and the gums got sore.... YUCK. Not worth it for the minimal numbness it even gave me.

Infant motrin seems to be the only thing that works to calm and ease her pain enough to eat and sleep for now.

I tried the orajel when DS3 was a baby and teething. It didn't work so I stopped using it after maybe two tries. It washes away quickly because they drool so much, and it will give them that numb feeling in their entire mouth, which could be very uncomfortable for a baby. Think about when your dentist prepares you for filling a cavity...first they may put on a topical anesthetic to numb the surface, and your throat feels like it is swelling from being numbed when you swallow some of the stuff! That is what a baby could experience from orajel.

The only thing that ever worked for either child was infant Tylenol. The pediatrician recommended it at one of DS3's checkups, when he was 6 months old. We only use it occasionally, only if the baby is so uncomfortable that it disturbs his normal sleeping or eating habits. I can count on one hand the number of times I used it for either child. My little one is 15 months now, and is still teething, but he has 8 teeth as of now. Yes, he cries many times, but it does not seem to affect his quality of life so we leave it alone and let nature take its course.

I have bought the teething tablets you are talking about, and I dont notice any difference. I am trying anything at this point. DD1o mos wakes up every night in pain. We are using Orajel which seems to help at that moment and tylenol or motrin. She is cutting all 4 upper teeth at once. Im sure once these come in that it will be time for the first year molars:scared1:
Im beginning to think that between reflux and teething we may NEVER sleep again!!!

I never tried them.

My all time favorite remedy was a frozen mini-bagel half. I used to keep a supply in the freezer, already separated into halves.

The cold helps the sore gums, they've GOT to taste better than plastic, and my kids loved them!

I was told years ago that Orajel products actually toughen the gums so it's harder for the teeth to get through and it takes longer so we avoided it totally.

We have bought the liquid camilia a homeopathic remedy. I alternate it with infant motrin but i'm hesitant to use too much motrin/tylenol.
I keep orajel in mt purse for emergencies but itdoesn't seem too effective.
When I had a bad tooth infection used adult orajel while waiting for my dental appointment. It just felt icky so i don'y like giving it to dd.

we used the hylands teething tablets and found they work great. I guess each kiddo is different, so it is a try and see thing. Good Luck.

I had used teething tablets for dd #1. Now I just use Tylenol if a need arises and something cold and soothing on the gums.

I had come across a post on another board about a horrible happening to a baby due to unregulated amounts of belladonna in the tablets. I don't know if it's against the rules to post a quote from another board so unless told otherwise I won't do that. But if you want to pm me I can give you a link.

We used the Highlands tab as well and they seem to calm our little guy down a bit as well. I say try them and if they work great we just could not go another night with him in pain. Soon though it will all be over and as you know the next issue will come..... oh the joys of having a little one!

I loved the Hylands teething tablets. Thought they worked great.

There is no belladonna in homeopathic tablets. There is no ANYTHING measurable in them. That's the whole point of homeopathy, and the reason that skeptics are, well, skeptics. You can "prove" a remedy (DS got ahold of the chamomile pellet tube and for over a year it didn't work on him, it caused him to get hyper instead of calm) but it's not going to poison you.

So OP, I take it you're talking about Hyland's? They worked for DS about half the time I used them. The other half, it just wasn't right for that moment of teething. So I would look at what his current symptoms were, consult my homeopathy books, and find a SINGLE remedy for him. When I did that and when I actually had what he needed, it always worked. Even if that single remedy was in the "shotgun" approach of the Hyland's.

Homeopathy is miraculous, weird, difficult to understand, and a bit wild. But it's also terrific and wonderful! It works on babies and animals (even PetSmart recommends Rescue Remedy to put into the water of skittish animals for fireworks days) so it's not mind over matter...it's just a really cool way of helping people.

And if you ask me about arnica, I could talk all day, that stuff has saved us more than once. Especially me and DS, b/c we are prone to nasty bone-deep leg aches (they were so bad when I was a child that I was tested for juvenile RA just to get an explanation), and the arnica cream (from Salmon Creek Therapeutics) and pellets for pains you can take care of from the outside have changed my life, and have made DS's life much better.

I don't mean to argue with you, because I agree they work, but I am looking at my bottle of Hyland's Homeopathic Teething tablets and it does state that there is belladonna in it. It says "Calcerea phosphorica 3x HPUS, Chamomilla 3X HPUS, coffea cruda 3x HPUS, Belladonna 3x HPUS in a base of lactose N.F.

Don't really know what any of that means, but that is what it says on the back of the bottle. We haven't had any problem with them and I think they work great. Maybe that baby had an allergic reaction? Not sure, just a guess. Many of my neighbors and friends use them as well with much success, which is why I started using them.

This is a direct quote from Hyland's website:

"The homeopathic approach relies on small doses of natural ingredients to stimulate the body's healing process instead of large doses that create
undesirable side effects. For instance, Belladonna is an ingredient in the tablets, which in large amounts could be toxic, but in minute amounts, homeopathic Belladonna helps the body to heal and would never be toxic to your baby. Even if your baby accidentally swallowed an entire bottle of Hyland's Teething Tablets, there is little chance of experiencing side
effects. The homeopathic approach allows for a very large margin of safety."

I know it says it's in small amounts, but because it's not regulated by the FDA there is no set amount in each tablet or in each bottle. That is the only thing that has swayed me from using them on dd#2. I did think they worked well on dd#1, but just didn't want to take the chance of having what happened to the one baby I spoke about in my prior post happen again.

Dd ate ate an entire bottle - called poison control, and they said it wasn't a problem.:confused3

We loved the teething tablets and they were the only thing that we could find that would give our little one any comfort. My only problem was that I wish I had known about them with my two older children.:)

If it wasn't for those tablets I wouldn't be able to survive!!!! DD who is two is getting her molars right now and 1 takes the edge off and 3 will knock her out! She will even ask for medicine and takes them very easy as if they were candy because they help her so much. Well worth the $$$$
