Teens wearing pants at their knees..

Don't take it personally...it was the '80's...we all had poor taste and bad judgement! Shoulder pads ... big hair...leg warmers...need I say more?

I grew up in the age of tube tops, which mortified my grandmother!

I am a high school teacher and I hate this look, but there is only so much I can do. A cafeteria worker was yelling one day that these students look like hoodlums and the teachers aren't doing anything about it. Now, we try, but when parents approve, the battle becomes difficult. Just as a pp said, it is not appropriate for a work environment, which is what we are hoping to ready our young men and women for-- and I worry that a child will trip and some parent will try to sue the school when his crotch was at his knees.

Anyway, my rule is NO VISIBLE UNDERWEAR in my class. 9 times out of 10 a student will choose to pull his shirt over rather than de-sag. I should not have to see underwear while I am trying to teach Shakespeare, it takes the sense of respect away from the experience.

Side note, worse than sagging (to me) is when I see a child "with sag" who has worn the same underwear two days in a row. (ie: "Dr. Seuss boxers) I really can't wait till this trend is over.

My DD starts middle school next year and they have the "Four B's" Rule:

1. No breasts.
2. No bare midriff.
3. No butts.
4. No boxers.

I personally think the droopy pants look is silly but that's what teens do. I too grew up with tube tops and halter tops made from handkerchiefs. I was very skinny in high school :rotfl:.

We see it a lot in the elementary school I teach in, the nurse keeps string to make impromptu belts. Of course, in many of their cases they are simply needing to grow into their pants. I love the little elastic things they put in kids pants now so that you can tighten them- those will nip it in the bud right away!

That style was all the rage when I was in middle school and I never understood it- even then. It looks so damn uncomfortable, and really, who wants to hold up their pants while they walk? I have seen a boy lose his pants completely a time or two, and it's just sad.

And even if the part about signalling availability in prison isn't true, many people believe it is. If you know that, why would you continue wearing it that way if you know that's what people are going to think?

I think the reason I don't like it now is because having worn costumes where the crotch is at the knees, it is freaking uncomfortable and very difficult to walk or move around. I'm sure anybody who has been a mascot can relate. It makes me wonder why anyone would do that to themselves intentionally.
