Teens shaving their arms?

Only on the DIS can we have almost 5 pages about arm hair! And yes, I shave my arm hair, and I'm not ashamed. It's just like legs, pits, and other unmentionables. I'd rather shave my arms than look and feel like a monkey.

God, I hope that doesn't turn into a tag!

I passed this thread by a time or two - but like Stephanie had to check it out when I saw 5 pages of responses!

Might as well post my opinion while I'm here.

I don't know that it's that new of a trend.
I remember having a conversation about it with a friend a couple of years back when her DD wanted to start. Mom was not thrilled and wanted me to side with her. I had to since I'd been shaving mine for years. (hey, maybe I was a trendsetter)

Honestly, I think it's much quicker and easier than shaving my legs (now THAT'S a pain) and I don't feel self conscious or compare my arm hair with anyone else's anymore. I don't like to admit it, and I guess it could lead into the whole peer pressure and what's socially acceptable and why can of worms... but I used to do that.
Don't even think about it anymore.... unless I see 5 pages of arm hair discussion on the Dis.

btw, I did the bleach thing before I decided to shave. Maybe the kits have improved, but that was a stinky, messy, time consuming pain.

I know it's tough deciding which battles to choose with teens. I'm just glad this one won't be an issue at our house. If they do - fine. If they don't - fine.
btw, I also hope I make it through without confronting the no bra and/or underwear thing! so far, so good. knock wood.

I voted yes! This really isn't a new trend - I'm 39 and kids did this when I was in school in the 80's. I'm blonde with dark hair on my arms and yes I shave my arms about once every 2/3 weeks. The hair does NOT grow back thicker and coarser - it grows back the exact same as it was. However it does grow back slower then leg hair hence the need to only shave them about once or twice a month. I tried to bleach and it was way too harsh on my skin.

I've been waxing my arms for a few years. The hair is much finer and lighter now, so I only do it once every few months.

i said sure, because they should have the right to do it. however, you would never catch me doing it. i have enough hassle regularly shaving my legs, etc. like im going to add another part.

I'm a teen with wicked dark hairy arms. I'm self conscious about it, but I don't do anything about it. It would take WAY too much effort.

I don't have kids (I'm only 23) but if I did... I wouldn't want them shaving their arms. Why? Because I think it's gross. But if they aren't my kid- sure why not?

I have a friend who used to do it (I think it was a habit leftover from swimming) and it grossed me out when she'd have stubble. Also, she had blonde hair so I didn't get the reason for it.

However, if (when I eventually have a kid) she comes out with ape-arms, she can shave away!

I'm already worried about my kids' eyebrows. DBF has caterpillars above his eyes, and I would have a unibrow if it wasn't for my trusty tweezers

I also find it kind of creepy to see totally bare arms. I don't know why... it just scares me.

If a kid wants to shave...let them shave. It is only hair removal, not really a big deal.
