Teens rejected from Prom

I didn't see anything wrong with any of the dresses.

When you posted the thread I was expecting skirt slits up to the hoo ha, necklines down to the belly buttons, and no back with the top of the butt crack showing.

IMHO, this is just a classic example of an adult on a stupid power trip, out to mess havoc with some kid's life --- just because they can.

I agree with everything Toby'sFriend said - especially the last sentence, which I've bolded.

:sad2: What a shame that those girls had a special, magical night in their high school years ruined.

I opened this expecting to see skin tight, patent leather, strappy things. Boy was I shocked! One or two of the dresses were eh, I think because they were ill fitting. But bannable? Heck, I'd be commending these girls for wearing prom dresses that *gasp* actually look like prom dresses!

A few months ago I stumbled upon some designers website that showed their collection of prom dresses. Eek! Slits up to places I'd rather not think about. Or down, if the case may be. See through fabrics with coverings in just the right places. So skin tight that even a toothpick would look ridiculous in it. :sad2:

Thank goodness most of the girls at my prom dressed pretty normally. One girl wore a dress though that was a little bit scary. It was basically a sequined tube top and a poofy skirt. The top was meant to cover the entire midriff and overlap the top of the skirt. Her midriff wasn't showing and honostly it was a pretty dress. The girl was very thin but was very top heavy. I don't think she should have been banned from prom, but I do think she should have been handed a roll of duct tape at the door. She wasn't revealing anything, but it wasn't really pretty either. (Hence why I chose a dress I could wear a bra with.)

I am pretty conservative when it comes to teen dresses but I thought they were okay for prom.

I agree. I had heard this story on the radio, and was expecting something Cher might have worn in her heyday, but I really didn't have a problem with these. I felt there was one that was borderline, but nothing way out of line.

For those who asked, the school in question is a public school. It is not in the city of New Orleans, but in a nearby suburb located in Jefferson Parish.

Those dresses are very tame compared to a lot of other dresses that are out there.

Also, like one other poster mentioned, I wonder if the fact that one girl appears to be in her third trimester has anything to do with it.

You have got to be kidding! the girls wear worse than this at my daughter's high school on an everday basis!

I don't see any issues with any of the dresses pictured.

Me either!!!

There is an old email that went around once showing girls in some really "OMG" prom gowns. Some were of couples. I was expecting stuff like that.

Well...I was expecting low cut, short tight dresses not ACTUAL PROM DRESSES. There was one in that slideshow, a light blue strapless..it looked like it could be a bridesmaids dress.

All those dresses are normal formal wear. What are the school dress codes? Were they expecting these girls to show up in long jump-dresses with turtlenecks underneath??

Poor girls. Had their night ruined for absolutely nothing.

I thought the dresses were all appropriate.

However I know my DD's HS dress code includes no tank tops where the strap is less than 2 fingers wide, spaghetti straps or strapless tops. Maybe that's the rule they were citing??? Many formal dresses would fall into that category, but I think the rules for prom / formal wear should be different than for a classroom / learning environment.

Those dresses show less skin than you'd see walking around in the Magic Kingdom! I graduated 20 years ago and wore a tea length, strapless gown. I agree with previous posters that said the adult was on a power trip. They have given these girls more attention than they were looking for to begin with! Why is there always somebody that wants to ruin an experience for someone else?
