teens car-do you put in parents name?

Our insurance won't let us put a car in a minors name. They also assigned the most expensive car in their name, so since we have 3 kids with a huge age gap, we could have bought a small island for what we have paid in car insurance. Our youngest graduates in 2 years, so DH and I will breathe a sigh of relief.
Ours lets us choose what car to assign them to. We chose the cheapest one and that is the one he actually drives. The premiums on the other 2 have not changed.

Maybe but that's they way my mom did it. She didn't want my accidents on her premium.

Her words "if you're old enough to have the privilege, you are old enough to accept the responsibility"... In this case paying a lot from my part time job for insurance.
If your child is a registered driver on the insurance it will reflect on his/her insurance premium, not the owner of the car

BTW - do'nt forget that you get BIG discounts on insurane if your child goes through drivers education - with our insurance, we got 6 months FREE and the next 6 were 1/2 priced. When I went to college I paid a "driving rate" of I think it was still 1/2 becuase it wasn't being used on a daily basis - just "out and about" a couple times a week, to church on Sundays, and home for holidays.

This may depend on the state or Insurance Company. Here Drivers Ed is not required and our Insurance company said that it didn't make a difference on rates if they went through it. They only discount they offered was for good grades.

We have two cars for our kids along with our own two. The kids cars were bought by DH in his name and are on our insurance.
Our agent assigns the cars in the way that brings us the best price.

Our kids both got their licenses within weeks of each other.....at 16 and 18. The older wasn't interested in driving and saved us two years of premiums and no car payments.

Check for lower mileage driving rates also, We have a car I specifically drive to work and back and maybe a few errands which has me driving under 7500 miles a year dropped it enough to make a noticeable difference on our bill, so something like that could help on premiums.
