My DS's are 15 and 17. Of course they don't believe in Santa anymore but neither one of us don't deny of his existence.

Is there anyone else who is in this situation? Do you still put cookies out there for Santa?

It's kinda funny. I ask my kids what they want from Santa and they kinda grin and say what is Santa's limit?

No flames about us lying to our kids all these years please :)

Follow their lead. Would they like to make a plate of cookies with milk or carrots for the reindeer? If they ask "Santa" for certain gifts I would definately still play along and put santa tags or special wrapping paper on them.

Why not? Sometimes the reassurance that things stay the same at some level feels good to all of us, even kids and teens. Why do we eat the same foods for comfort or seek out familiar spots? We want those same feelings of reassurance and love too.

Have fun - Merry Christmas! :)

Aw that's us too. We never made any official announcement confirming or denying Santa's existence. But over the years Santa transformed from a man in a red suit to the code word for the giver of gifts who doesn't ask for a thanks.

we still set them out mine are 15 and 14 :lmao: they still are like milk and cookies tell me we have them? :lmao:

At 15 and 17 no. Leaving cookies and such would be long over in our home.

Oh I think cookies are entirely appropriate, especially when they know Santa's real identity. It's the least they could do, after all.

Mom: "do you want to set cookies out for Santa?"

16 year old: "no"

Mom: "you ungrateful little brat!!"

Then again, aren't cookies ALWAYS appropriate?

We always played along even in our teens but we always knew who Santa was. Although we never left milk & cookies out even when we were younger.

I never could convince Santa to quit putting those walnuts in my stockings but then again, my mom laughed that as a teen, I decided to start putting out tights/nylons instead of just a stocking (we didn't have the premade stockings), we just used clean socks. LOL! Hey it was bigger! More goodies in it that way. My mom never really used those, I think they always just ended up in a bag or something on the couch.

Of course, our Santa here is weird. We don't leave out milk & cookies. We leave out the glass bottles of Coke that only come out at Christmas time around here. Hey..our Santa NEEDS the caffeine -- do you know how long it takes a teen to go to sleep? Especially after being wired up from company? Considering we haven't even made Christmas cookies yet & don't we will have time to do so between now and Christmas. I have no idea besides the coke what is going to be left out for Santa. Something will be I'm sure. Probably something chocolate would work or whatever is left over from Christmas Eve dinner we host. I'm thinking M & M's are probably going to have to be the item that fills the bill this year as we have a huge bag of those that I'm sure there will be some left.

It's the older 2 that really push for what to leave out for Santa.

It works for us.

My sister and I were never told there was no Santa. I figured it out when I was old enough to recognize my mother's handwriting. I asked her about it once, but she said Santa left the gifts and she had to put the tags on them. I never brought it up, again. My mother still gives us gifts from Santa - and he usually forgets to take the tags off!! :rotfl:

My son is 14, so I don't think he still believes in Santa. He has never asked and I have never told him there isn't one. I think he's afraid to not believe. ;) Of course, I have a six year old daughter, too. She is still very much into believeing in Santa. My son has been great about keeping the secret. :thumbsup2

Michelle :flower3:

I say go for it! It's part of the Christmas fun!

My boys are 17 and 18. Of COURSE there are still milk and cookies for Santa! But now the boys bake them themselves, and they always ask "Santa" (me) what kind of cookies Santa wants this year!:)

And Santa's milk gets a little enhancement, with the addition of a touch of "chocolate" - Kahlua. ;) Yummy!

Traditions are fun, so why stop once the kids know the truth about Santa?

Judging by some of the replys, I would say that a LOT of you are gonna get some coal, and bundles of sticks!!

To anyone of any age reading this thread: Of course there is a Santa

WE cant leave out cookies, because the Grumpy pups would get them.

So we leave a note letting him know they are in a container, and he can help himself!!!

Way back when my kids were babies, my DH and I argued about whether or not we (in his words) should "perpetuate" the story about Santa. That truly was the first, and last, major disagreement we ever had where raising our kids were concerned. I couldn't imagine the idea of Christmas without Santa Claus -- all the magic, and the wonder -- well, we compromised and agreed that we would choose our words carefully and go with Santa. We also agreed that when the time came, and if asked directly, we would not lie.

Sadly, that day came wayyyyyyyyyyy too soon. My DD, then 6 1/2, came home crying, saying that her "friend" told her there was no Santa Claus, but that she had insisted that there was, because "my mom told me so, and my mom NEVER lies". Then she asked the dreaded question -- and I gently told her the truth...that if she's talking about a jolly old man in a red suit that comes down chimneys, no -- but the spirit of love and generosity and giving, absolutely! Little did I know that my 5 1/2 year old DD was around the corner, listening. Out she came, eyes as big as saucers and asked -- "What about the Tooth Fairy? The Easter Bunny?" Sadly, I had crushed the magic held by the two most precious things in my life in one fell swoop. And I was kicking myself for not listening to my husband years ago.

Fast forward to today -- those precious babies are now 14 and 13 year-old teens, and they still put out their stockings every Christmas Eve and still leave cookies and Coke for Santa -- there's no doubt in their mind, but why leave the magic behind?

Moral of this long, long story? Put out those cookies and milk -- let them enjoy the magic as long as they want to -- Children grow up way too fast already!!!

I agree! When I was a kid, we did the milk and cookies for fun all through my teen years because it was a tradition. :santa:

Our kids are beyond Santa age, and we still do Santa traditions for fun. It's part of the holidays for us. I did change one thing about that tradition. At our house, Santa gets cookies and a Sam Adams! :rolleyes1

Hmm, I wonder if Santa would like a nice Pina Colava!!!

hehehehehehe

Santa gets beer and pizza here.

Eight carrots are put in the front yard for the reindeer. I don't think that tradition will stop until the kids are out of the house.

What's the problem with leaving out cookies? It's not like they won't get eaten. It a family ritual, keep it if you want.

No right and wrong here, do whatever works for you.

Oh yea, "if you leave him cookies and beer he will be back to your house first next year". (taken from "I am Santa Claus":lmao: )

Santa is real, and appreciates the cookies and milk he gets. His reindeer get water and baby carrots.

Keep the magic alive! I'm 14, and I believe. :)
