My dd11 wants this loft bed...

Maxx-HSLoft-m.jpg

I am thinking that changing the sheets would be a huge pain, but that is her responsibility now (with her "normal" bed) and she has promised that she can do it without help.

DH is thinking that in a few years she will get tired of climbing a ladder to go to bed, and want a regular bed again. This thing is too expensive for her to only use a few years.

Have any of you had kids with bunk/loft beds who have kept them happily through their teenage years?

I purchased my daughter the double over twin version of that in metal. The ladder is integrated.. It has been over a year, and so far so good :thumbsup2 I think I may agree with your DH, she may get fed up, and then what

She loves it, and it really is the best of both worlds. She can have a friend or more sleep over.

The "friends sleeping over" bit is how the quest for a new bed got started. Her current bed is a twin, and when she was little, she and a friend could fit in there together. Now they can't. And she's at the age where she wants to have a friend sleep over more often. So...she needs a full bed, or something. Her room isn't that big, but there is room for a full sized bed in there.

This does look cool, and would give her a full-sized bed, plus the desk space...

Why does DH have to be so practical? :upsidedow

My nephew has one but he took the mattress and has it on the floor under the loft. He got to tall and tired of going up and down.

I too wouldn't want to make that bed....:rotfl:

DS12 has a loft bed/bunk bed. The top bunk looks like what you have there, the bottom has another twin that sticks out perpendicular to the top. There is a set of drawers and book shelves on one end and a desk on the other. This set up would give you 2 beds and then if she doesn't want to sleep in the top bunk she would have the bottom bunk to use.

This is what he has, they have it in white too.

I just got rid of a bunk bed. We had taken the bottom bed out of the room after a while to make a loft.
Granted my daughter is younger than yours but let me tell you why we got rid of it.
It was a pain to change -really hard- she couldn't tuck the sheets in without help

I couldn't see what was up there with out climbing up - she would leave books ect.. in bed with her and it was kind of gross sometimes what I would find.

It put a distance between us -I couldn't reach her and got tired of climbing the ladder to kiss or hug her. It was also harder for us to get in bed with her if we wanted to lay down with her for a minute

It was hard to clean around and under. The bed we had -contained a built in desk and book shelf. It was too heavy to lift and the vaccum would not get right up to the edges of it. So you had to use and attachment to clean the carpet around it well.

None of these things may matter to you- just telling you our experience.

my daughter has a loft bed.

Its a twin on top and built in desk the total length of the twin on the bottom.

her room is tiny so it was for the best.

it is horribly difficult to change the sheets and blankets.

Ours was almost identical to golf gals -but not as nice!

What about the bunk style that have a futon on bottom and a twin on top? Keep the futon folded and have a small desk/table there. I had bunk beds and the top bunk was a pain to change the sheets if pressed against the wall.

I had a loft bed in college, and now DD1 has a bunk bed. The loft/top bunk is a pain to change sheets on, but if you are looking for space savers in the room, a loft bed is great.

My son has the same bed! My child is only 6, so I am glad to see that older children do still like the bed, because I don't plan on buying another.

I agree this type may be a good idea for your daughter because she can always sleep on the bottom if tired of the top (and believe me, making the top bed is NOT a fun or easy job). It really doesn't take up much more room than the loft beds with only the top bunk.

My sister has a daybed with a trundle (sp?) pull out that is perfect for overnight guests!

And the daybed is easy to change bed clothes....I had one for many years!

My 17yo has a bed that can be a loft bed or can be used without the loft "extensions" as a regular bed. He has chosen to use it as a loft so he can have more floor space for all of his musical gear. He even keeps his chest of drawers in his small walk-in closet so he has extra floor space. He doesn't complain about climbing up to it. I don't know how hard the sheets are to change since I don't have to change them. :)

My son has the same bed but its in a gunmetal gray and it is metal based (bought at Ikea years ago).

He really likes it. He has the desk underneath.

If you look, I think its the Tromsa bed line from Ikea.

My DD is 20 and has a loft bed in her room. She's had hers for 2 years. Hers generated a lot more space in her room (which isn't terribly large). She communted to college for 2 years (so she used it a lot then) but is living in an apt. this year (home on weekends).

She and her dad built it, and it's the extra long version (XL sheets can be purchased at JCPenney on sale for great prices). They also built it taller than a regular set to give her more room under it. Her desk, tv, bookshelf, etc. are underneath it.

She has a futon on the other side of the room. When her BF is there, they can go back in her room and watch tv if they want. If she has a friend stay the night, she can let the futon down into an extra bed.

She has really enjoyed hers, but while she doesn't mind climbing up in it to go to bed, she does get a little tired of having to climb down in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. It also can get a little warm up there.

How about getting a captains bed instead??

Both of my DS's (6 & 3) have them and they are great spacesavers in their tiny rooms. One DS has 4 drawers and a "cubby" under his, room for all his clothes that aren't hung up so we don't have a big dresser in his room. The other DS has just one big drawer that is the length of the whole bed.......but his clothes (minus hang up clothes) all fit in there too. No need for a dresser.

One of the captains bed is up fairly high off the floor, it's higher than my standard size Queen.........the other one is normal height.

My ddd is almost 10 and we've been considering a loft bed too. Her room is really small and we think it's time for a desk, but one wouldn't fit with her current configuration of a twin bed and 2 dressers. I am really concerned about the ladder and how hard it is to make a bed.

This is what we're thinking of. It's quite expensive but we're hoping it's a good investment.

Not sure if the link will work, but it's a loft bed with stairs (the stairs are drawers also)

I have a bunk bedroom set waiting to be delivered for DD11. Hopefully DH and I can paint her room tomorrow so that can have it delivered soon.

Heres hers:

We ordered the loft bed, second twin bed, desk chair, 8 drawer bureau and mirror.....way back in october but it was backordered. I thought it would never come and now i am not ready for it.

The drawer panels can be changed around but DD will make hers all white.
We have a bunk bed set in our "guest suite" and it really isn't that hard to change the sheets. The rail slips off and its just like any other bed, just higher.

DD15 wants a loft bed for her room but I haven't looked into it yet. She likes IKEA style metal. yuck, but its her room.

My son has a loft bed. He has a dresser and a toy bin/shelf thing under it. My husband take the whole matress off to change the sheets. It is a pain.
