Already facing a dilemma for our 7-Day Western next summer. My daughter will be 18YO by then, but is taking her best friend with us, who will still be a couple of months short of her 18th birthday. My daughter is already excited about the spa.

So, will the 17YO be shut out of the adult activities, and will the 18YO be shut out of the teen activities?

I don't know about the spa because I haven't done it (YET) but when we went in 12/01 I never saw anyone checking ID of people who were just THERE at so called "adult" activities - like the Adult Dueling Pianos show. I would think that as long as she doesn't act like a giggling idiot and doesn't try and order alcohol, she'd probably be okay. I will also confess that we took our then 15 yo DD with us to the adult beach. It was our family and my parents and all we wanted to do was lay in the sun, walk the beach and eat. We went down by ourselves to the end of the beach and no one questioned us and DD didn't act like a giggling idiot to bring attention to herself! A 17 yo girl doesn't look much different from an 18 yo girl.

As far as the teen stuff - my DD wasn't too interested in it anyway. She did go on the junkaroo cruise at Nassau but they although they had all sorts of stuff on the schedule - they really didn't do very much of it. We were on a pre-Christmas cruise that I don't think was real crowded so I don't know if they're always that laid back - but for the most part DD met a few kids on her own and hung out with them or she hung out with us.

There were some 19 and 20 year olds in the club last year on the 4 day. As long as they were calm and joined in the games noone bothered them. Sometimes they are caught between the activities- they don't want to hang out with the older adults or the younger teens.

Every now and then we see teens in the adult pool or whirlpool who are not within the age limits. Normally I am a stickler about the adult areas (if kids try to invade the hot tub, I tell them right out, "Sorry, this is adults only" and point out the sign), but when they are close to adult age and are not creating a disturbance, I overlook it. I can empathize with them, as they are probably trying to escape the Goofy Pool for a little peace and quiet! And don't worry...this doesn't even happen very often. You won't be up to your eyeballs in teens in the adult areas!

I think the general consensus is that if they are not bothering anyone, it's not worth ruining anyone's vacation by making a fuss about it. I personally would not be bothered with a "young adult" in the adults-only areas when all they are doing is enjoying themselves. It's tough to be an "in-between". I hope they have a blast. BTW, it's sweet of you to let her take a friend on the trip. :p

We just returned from a 3-day cruise. The first day we were having a drink at the bar of the adult pool and a there was a woman with two teens swimming in the adult pool. A CM walked up to them after a few minutes and asked for IDs. The girls were under 18 and were asked to leave. They appeared to be about 16 or so. So I wouldn't guarantee that they won't ask your daughter and friend for IDs when they are in the adult areas. I think that a lot may depend on how old they look. I'm sure that there are people that have done this without any problems, but you won't know for sure until the situation arises.
