Teen Mom star makes $280,000 a year? What?!?!

I was surprised when I read that too, but I'm sure MTV wants the show to be realistic. I bet they tell the girls they have to live in the same circumstances as before the show while they are being filmed. If we saw them living in nice homes and riding around in BMW's it would be a strange show.

That aside- there is no excuse for Amber making Leah sleep with no sheets on her crib or for living in filth.:sad2:

Well, she is on a reality TV show, what did you expect? They don't do this for nothing. I don't agree with her lifestyle and think she is total trash, but I don't begrudge her the money.

I don't watch the show, but could it be that while filming she's being paid one amount, and the rest of the money comes after filming (when she's no longer on the show)? If they give it to them now that's just ridiculous.

I don't watch the show, but I have a question??
Do these teen moms have friends and family??
Then how in any real world could their child have no bedding?
Sound "unreal" to me.

And yard sales around here are loaded with baby/kid stuff (because that's who's having yard sales, parents of younger children who need to clear space for the new stuff as kids age.) You could get an entire bedding set for $5. Plain sheets for spare change. And all of it is washable.

I am asking this seriously, it just doesn't sound like reality to me. In our community, when you have family/friends/or even shirttail acquaintances who have children out of wedlock or are struggling financially, you always offer what you can?? Hand-me-downs are not shameful. Isn't this something people across the country do for their family or friends who need help??

I guess I could see it if the teen mom moved and was in a new community of strangers with their child, but I'm doubting that is the case with this show?? Fill me in. I'm intrigued.

Isnt Amber's child Leah being looked after by her father with her being charged with battery? If that is so hopefuly the scenes of her living in filth will mean he gets to keep her.

I don't see why anyone is surprised. "Reality" TV doesn't look for real - they look for the people who will bring in ratings, and the train wreck factor draws a lot more attention than the hardworking young woman making the best of a difficult situation.

I have wondered the same thing even before I knew officially how much she made. I wondered if maybe they didn't get paid until it was over:confused3
BUT I think Amber has issues anyway so I wonder no matter how much money she had if she would still be the same way.

Let me start by saying I am a 51 year old woman who has a strange fascination to this show. It all started in the beginning with 16 and Pregnant when I found out that one of the girls on the show (Amber) lived in the same town as I do and was the same age as my DS. My family doesn't understand my fascination with this show and to be honest, I don't either, but fascinated I am.

Amber has a mother, father and brother. I know the father lives in town and the mother did during the 16 show, but I am not sure about now because until the arrest and pictures in the local paper, she hasn't been seen much. The family are total enablers. During the first season when we saw Amber hit Gary, her father was there and didn't do anything to stop the situation. The next time we saw Amber hit Gary was on vacation when he pushed her into the car door frame leaning over her. She went off on him and her dad told Gary then to apologize because you known how she is and he did. The violence has just escalated from there to where she was arrested.

The whole sheet story is that Leah was sleeping in a crib with no sheets and Garys mom brought over crib sheets. Once again Amber went off on Gary for telling his mom about the sheets. I don't remember the episode well because it was a while ago, but her apartments are always a mess no matter how much money she has had. I mean they are a gross disgusting mess, not your typical you have a baby clutter.

Like I said we live in the same town so its fun to see the local places featured and look for people you know. Its just really become a sad embarrassment. I do think the money is a new thing and she wasn't making that kind of money until recently with all the magazine covers and stories. We have a very low cost of living. I mean you can buy a really nice 3 bedroom 2 bath ranch house for under 100,000. I think the average cost of a house is 89,000. The average household income is 48,000 so its a pretty poor area. I know the figures from working on a project last year about the school system.

I really need to back away from all of this. I will say I have cut back and haven't read anything in the paper for the last few days and I also haven't checked out the TWOP pages so maybe I am on my way to a cure!

Okay, that makes a little more "sense." She's not only an abusive girlfriend, but also a nut who will deprive her child of sheets just because. Wow, What a lovely young lady. :sad2:
Oh, I have to add that until you posted I didn't realize this girl lived in Indiana?? :scared1: Great. Now I'm embarassed to be a Hoosier.
