Teen Internet Danger

This very disturbing and very local killing based on an Internet teen romance gone bad has hit hard with me. You see, I have a very Internet active soon-to-be 14 DD. I watch, I listen and, yes, I open her files. She doesn't like it but this is why:

Please, be careful out here! The Internet can be just as harmful as it is helpful and friendly.

That is so scary. You have to be so careful on the internet, and this is another example of why. That is so sick.

They just did a thing on teens on the internet on a local radio station here this morning.

They signed in to a chat room as a 13 year old girl. Within minutes they had all sorts of creeps asking her personal questions. By the time I was at work (35 minutes) they had at least 2 guys that wanted her phone number and when she said she couldn't give it to them wanted to know if she wanted to have cyber sex then. It was so sick.

And don't let them tell you otherwise. Of course, there's always the fine line between parents and kids. Trust is everything. And never let them forget you love them (as I know you do).

Scott...as the Mom of 3 girls (9,12 and 14) there is no way that they can be on the computer without me knowing what they are doing. I also check all their e-mails, I check all the sites they've ben to and if I see them in a chat and I don't like the topics or the conversation they get shut off.

My 14 yr old gets really mad at me, but that's too bad!!! There are too many creeps and perverts out there!!

They will NEVER have their own computers in their rooms, ours is right in the dining room where everyone can see it.
