Teen flown back to UK Hopital* Update Teen Suffers Cardiac Arrest

It is possible to be checked for aneurysms in the brain (and also aneurysms and weaknesses in the aorta) but these tests might not be covered by your health insurance.

If you are paranoic about having an aneurysm and having it burst at an inopportune moment, see your doctor about such tests.

Aneurysms are literally ticking time bombs in your body. Last year a friend of mine had something in his aorta give way almost without warning. The condition was not an aneurysm per se but is common enough to have a name which I forget. It was something like the inner layer of the aorta (the main trunk blood vessel coming off the heart) split and the inner and outer layers started to separate. My friend noticed something wrong and managed to get to the hospital in time to be cared for. He made it through but the chances of making it through were less than 50% for him and he would not have made it had he not gone into surgery for just one more hour.

We actually rode the ride that morning and when we went back a little while later to get FP the ride was shut down. We had heard it was the door stuck open on one of the elevators and didn't hear the real reason until we watched the news that night. It's scary that this happened but we rode it again later in the trip.

As for the helicopters I too thought the no fly zone was still in effect but we saw a lot of them in the sky this trip. It was kind of strange the first time I saw/heard one after not having them around for the last few years.

I just figured that the local news had rights to fly for traffic etc......there were many helicopters.

it is sort of surreal... going on an attraction that someone almost died on, but i will still go on ToT 20 times my next trip.

That is indeed good news - thank you for the Update. I pray that she will make a full recovery. Please post any additional information you may get.

Local news in Orlando reported that her condition was stable when she was flown home, however she is still in a coma. The doctors in Orlando said there was nothing else they could do for her. That doesn't sound positive to me.

I am glad she is stable, but what is your source? Do they know what happened?
I read the story on i-newswire.com
What was reported was that she suffered a brain haemorrhage. Someone else said she is still in a coma.

I would initially tend to agree, but while you and I may not be affected by it, the average Disney person who really may only go to Disney once every ten years for a vacation or has never been, WILL be swayed by anything they hear regarding media reports.

.
imo:
i think most people take this stuff with a grain of salt just like anything else the media says ( ie even tornado warnings, ect). once you read the story and see it has nothing to do with Disney neglegence... who cares( i don't mean who cares about the people, i mean it doesn't really have anything to do with Disney..the same thing could have happened any where.) and to a degree it does rest on the parents or adult who is riding to suffer the consequenses it they ride something they know they shouldn't...i rode rnr knowing i have back problems and suffered the next day due to my own dumbness. obviously it is tragic when someone dies (and no parent would let their kid go on something if they knew that would be the outcome) but it's just as obvious the coverage is due to the irony of it happening at the "happiest place on earth"

Well here's my question, how bad is mission space really, from people who love thrill rides. I'm going on my honeymoon and my wife has had a heart murmur since birth....but she takes no medication and hasn't ever had any problems. We're both roller coaster junkies and have ridden everything from inverted coasters to the freefall atop the stratosphere in vegas.....I have no doubts that she'll love TOT but having not ridden Mission space myself I'm trying to figure out if its really all that bad or just more or less hype. FYI, "all that bad" in our terms is pretty intense. She especially loves the rainbow which is a ride that spins you standing up and pins you with g forces against the wall....is MS any worse than that or the inverted (legs dangling) coasters like dueling dragons that pull loads of gs throughout the ride?

I have a heart murmur due to easy fatigability of my cardiac muscle due to CFS( there are different causes so this is only about me, may be different for your wife due to the reason behind hers)...i have ridden on all the thrill rides and the only problem i have had is back spasms( same general muscle fatigability cause ,different set of muscles:)) when i rode rnr and didn't keep my head back. i may not ride some of the more rough things next time since it appears it is getting worse ( heart). MS is not rough at all , you feel more like you are floating, you are not thrown around like at say space mountain but the take off puts pressure on you.

I think it's all just a really strange coinsidence that these mishaps all happened at once :guilty:

Hopefully these mishaps won't continue and will never happen again :wizard:

Have you heard anything about this situation lately...I have searched for hours and can not find out is this young woman survived. Thanks for your help!
