So we had to buy a new computer. Our 7 year old dinosaur finally kicked the bucket, after about six months or so worth of headaches. We had XP service pack 1 on there and every time we tried to upgrade to SP2, the computer would commit harikiri. It refused to recognize my MP3 player (a SANSA Sandisk express) as an MP3 player. We got the Blue Screen of Death virus (forget the real name of it..it tried to make you download some crappy fake antiviral software). Within the last couple of weeks, it started refusing to run Internet Explorer or the free MSN browser that came with the computer. It started refusing to dial out to the internet (even though the modem works fine). We finally decided this last problem with it not wanting to open IE was the last straw.
So we bought a new one..an Emachine with the latest version of XP loaded onto it.
It STILL refuses to accept my MP3 player as an MP3 player. It wants to think it's an external drive. What's up with that?

Also, I have The SIMS 1 (Deluxe pack) and it refuses to load the second disk, which is how the game gets completely loaded onto the computer. How do I fix that?

Techonological I ain't. That's why we have the most basic computer we could find. We don't do anything with our comp except get on the internet and maybe play the games that are preloaded onto the computer and every once in awhile use Microsoft Office for a couple of things.

Have you tried going into your media player yet to see if it will recognize the sansa? This happened on my sons 2yr laptop with his 1g sansa and then I tried his sisters 2g sansa and it recognized it and then after recognizing the 2g it recognized the 1g. Maybe it will show up in the media player. As for the second disk not loading, I would think maybe you are running out of memory or ram or whatever they call it. I'm not a techno either.

Save your sanity! Go see Geek Squad! The money to have them set it up is probably worth it. I am tech savy and I'll go to them if I'm not sure, just so I don't mess the computer up any further.

Usually with a scan disk you can drag the music over and it should be okay. Also do you have the original software? Try loading that in too.

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about Sansa MP3 players, as I've always had iPods, but I know with some older (non-Touch) iPods had the capability to be used as external drives if you checked that option in iTunes. Is it possible that in whatever software you use with the Sansa that an option like that could have become checked? What software do you use with it to manage your music, playlists, etc?

Geek Squad is right out. (Long story)

I did try that and it did work. The main problem I'm having is this: a local library allows free digital (MP3) downloads of audio books if you have a library card. Great! Except when I try to transfer them to my MP3 player, they don't work.

I use Windows Media Player to rip CDs, etc to my MP3 player. I don't think I have the software that came with my Sansa anymore, but I'll go look. It's probably around here somewhere in a drawer or something. I tried going to Sansa's website, but they're not a whole lot of help since this particular MP3 player is not something they make anymore and it's not even two years old yet!
