Let's see... about a month or so ago my main computer bit the dust. So I had it wiped clean, got rid of Win98 and had Win XP put in. Everything had been fine until the other day. I got nothing when I turned it on except this message:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt.
<windows root>\system32\hal.dll
So I called the place that did the original work and the first thing the tech asked me was did we have a HP printer, more importantly an all in one printer/scanner/fax. Well, wouldn't you know... WE DO.
The Cliff Notes version of what he told me was that without a special new driver, HP Printers and Win XP do not communicate well. In fact, when you hitch up the printer it wrecks your computer.
So now I have to go back and have them do everything over again. They'll also be installing that driver so that this doesn't happen again.
Has anyone ever heard of something like this? It just seems so strange!

), I probably would take it into be fixed anyway. I was just curious if anyone had ever heard of a problem like this.
