Team Rebel Alliance Introduction

Hi Everyone! I'm another newbie, both to the Team and to the WISH boards...
I'm a 48 yr old mother of two who started running last year...with the goal of finishing a marathon. I DID run the LA marathon, and decided to keep going since I wanted to run the DL 1/2. During that race I met my first WISHers! (Thank you DianeL and MkyMseHi)

In January of this year I started a weight loss challenge (which ended today) - I lost 18 lbs in 12 weeks, and have about 30 more to go. I'm also starting to like running (just don't tell anyone!).

I run with a group on Sunday mornings and just sort of kept the WISH idea in the back of my head until I decided to do the Princess 1/2 - then I found the boards and started posting. You guys sure have a wealth of information!! I loved feeling like I was a part of something bigger during the run, since I flew to FL and entered the race all by my lonesome... it was really nice to run by others I had met at the expo and/or the POR photo-op... I didn't feel alone at all!

I'm signed up for the DL 1/2 again this year and am happy to be a part of this team so that I can get to know some of you better. Thanks for having me! :flower3:

Good Morning, Rebels! I'm pleased to send you another member, Kirsty (Kirsty-Leigh). She's brand new to WISH (check out her post count) but has done the Princess and is now going for the full in January. I'll let her tell you her complete racing plans this year when she introduces herself, but in the meantime, I know you'll welcome Kirsty to the team! :cheer2:

Hi everyone!

I have been assigned to your team! I am from England originally where I was a horseback rider, I moved to St Petersburg FL a year and a half ago where I couldn't find any horses to ride and was getting very frustrated without any excersise! At this time I was visiting WDW for the millionth time and it was the marathon weekend, after a bit of googling I discoverd disney's endurance series, happy I had found something I hadn't done at WDW I signed up for the Minnie marathon in 2008, I nearly didn't go, I hadn't trained and didn't want to go alone (all my family still in England) when a friend told me she would go with me, so I ran a 15k with barely any training in 2.15, so OK I wasn't breaking any land speed records but I had the BEST time! So I signed up for the Princess and this time I was going to train, I ran a few races nr home and was right on track for running my first 1/2 when the flu struck, I was out for mearly a month missing several training races etc. but I wanted that tiara medal, so I set off for WDW once again not fit enough, I planned on running/walking which is what I did and finished in 3.04 and I loved every minute of it!

I know what you are thinking, she is one of those people who always make up excuses for not training properly, well yes you are right, training by myself I tend to get bored and lonely and give up, but hopefully with people to talk to about my adventures I will have the motivation I need to complete the Disney full 2010!!!!

I am also planning on the ToT 2009, Race for taste 2009, DL 1/2, ST petersburg womens 1/2, and maybe the space 1/2.

So thats probably more than you wanted to know about me:cutie: but just wanted to introdue myself and I can't wait to clock up my minutes and miles with you guys :)

Kirsty

Wow, a lot has happened since I last logged on. Welcome to the team everyone. Ok here is the deal, I did the first workout in P90X and then didn't do anymore due to a combination of tests, presentations, and laziness. Good news is that I am done with exams until finals week. Bad news is that the laziness is here to stay, but I think I can work around it. So my plan for this week is to restart my program and continue it. I'll try to post after my workouts and tell everyone what I think of P90X. That's all I have for now.

:stitch: 'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

Wendy posted this on the Lean Meaner thread and her words resonated with me, so I thought I'd pass it along as it serves as the inspiration for this week's mixer. :flower3:

It feels like Spring in my head-- a time for cleaning out the junk, renewing my resolve, and enjoying all that is beautiful around me. It's a renewed hope thing -- Do you feel that way, too?

So, WISHers, springtime is in the air as well as on the calendar. And even if your neighborhood isn't enjoying springlike weather quite yet, it's fun to plan for that day that's just around the corner. So this week's set of related prompts are...

What outdoor activity (or activities) do you most look forward to in the spring, and why? What is an annual spring tradition for you? How do you enjoy that first, perfect spring day?

Feel free to talk about prepping the bike for the season's first ride or the first run in shorts. But we're also interested in hearing about other activities: gardening, kite-flying, spring cleaning, picnics, roller blading, hiking, and so on.

So tell us your stories. The 'Ohana Monday Mixer starts here.

Hey, fellow Rebels! Sorry it's been a while since my last check-in. It's a combination of things that's kept me away, but it's mostly shame. :sad2:

I was signed up for an 8k locally, and I woke up the morning of with the beginnings of a migraine. I could have taken my medicine and gone on. But it was sooo early and I was sooo tired. I did the lazy thing and got back in bed. I regret doing that. It would have been fun, and I would have gotten some race experience. I'm still pretty mad at myself.

This laziness, combined with my shame, has kept me away from the Y for the past few weeks. But, I found a conditioning schedule (for those of us who truly are couch potatoes) online and I will begin that today. It is pretty slow, so I'll add my own additions, like classes and weights, on some days.

Not only is the marathon sneaking up on me (:scared1:), but I'll be heading to visit family in late July. And I absolutely dread walking through the door and seeing their faces when they see me. And the fake-as-hell "have you lost some weight?" comments really get old after the 10th time. For once, I'd actually like them to mean it.

Okay, all this self-pity recapping is getting me down, so enough. Today also starts the first day of my new non-diet. Paul McKenna's book is so easy, it's practically fool-proof (unless this fool find a way to screw it up). But I'll be back on the boards, and our team thread, and posting my miles and minutes, much more often. Thanks for "listening" everyone.

Hello all!!! Sorry for not posting this weekend, a bit busy myself! And no workouts to report (sad, I know) I just haven't been able to get over my bug! GRR

WELCOME everyone new! If you send me a PM with your email address I can send you the excecl spreedsheet to track your miles and minutes :goodvibes

Brandie~ Way to go with the weight loss and the races!!! You rock!!!

Running Diva~ How was the LA marathon??? Lots of people? I won't tell anyone you like running ;) Awesome on the weight loss too! Running seems to shed off the pounds for me as well!

Kirsty~ I'm jealous of all the races you're going to do!!! I get a bit bored with training when I train alone too. Is there anyone you can train with? Maybe find training groups around you?

Andrea~ Its ok you missed that race... there will be more! A lot of us are going through the laziness stage right now, I think that's pretty weird that its happening to so many people. Maybe the time of year?

Hey Suzann thanks for the welcome, I will send you an email in a PM.

I know I cant wait to do all those disney races, I wish it was winter now, but then I wouldn't be fit enough to run them all so I guess I should put all my excitement into training :rotfl:

Bye for now :)

Hi! I hope you're feeling better... I had a bad bug for a month b4 the Princess 1/2, thought I'd NEVER get over it:headache:

LA was a great experience, 23,000 people! I'm glad I did it, and I signed up for the San Diego Rock 'n Roll marathon in May too, but I think I like 1/2s better.

Anyone here doing the DL 1/2? I signed up for that one too...

I'll pm you for the spreadsheet... Thanks!

Hey Everyone,
Just finished my Chest & Back workout on P90X. Hopefully I can get a short run in after my classes. Tomorrow's P90X workout is plyometrics which is basically jumping around for an hour. I am also thinking about signing up for the USAF half in september. If anyone has run that race before, I'd love to hear what you think.

Good mornin' y'all!
Steve....What? You're letting exams and presentations get in the way of exercise?:confused3:lmao: I remember those days all too well, I hope it all goes well. Good luck on finals.
Andrea....don't be too hard on yourself for missing the race, we've all had those mornings where staying in bed seems to be the best idea. You'll get'em next time.
Suzann...oh no, you're still sick. Take care of yourself, the mom in me says, "Drink some orange juice."
Diva...I know what ya' mean about starting to like running. It took me about 6 months until I realized how much I really liked it. Now, I just need to get outside because those TM runs are not nearly as much fun.
Kirsty...:welcome: Wow, you've got alot of races planned. Go get em, girl! So, is it Kirsty like thirsty? Or is it pronounced like Keer-sty?
Scott...how are you?
I think I'm gonna try adding some pilates back into my schedule this week. I had started doing the Jillian Michael's Shred DVD, but that kicked pilates out and I miss it. Take care everybody and have a great day.

Hey justsmile :goodvibes

Thanks for the welcome, its Kirsty like thirsty. Yeah its a lot of races, this is my year for running, I have decided :thumbsup2 I can't wait but lots of training to go until then :scared:

Kirsty

Running Diva~ I did the inaugural DL half, it was totally fun! That year we got to run through the Angels stadium... not sure if they still do that! If they didn't have it on a Holiday, I would consider doing it again!

Steve~ Sounds like that's a great program! And school work comes first! Ha!

Tracey~ How did you like the Jillian DVD? I have it, but haven't worked out to it yet (shhh... don't tell anyone)

Whats up rebels,
I just finished a short run in the rain bringing todays totals to 93 minutes and 1.74 miles. Hopefully there will be more miles as my running program progresses and the P90X is kicking my butt after 1 day. I can already feel soreness in my chest from the P90X this morning.

Running Diva - I wish I was doing the DL 1/2, but I am on the wrong side of the country.

Kirsty - I'm also one of those people who likes to put off training until the last possible minute. I'm going to try to break that habit this year though.

Andrea - Don't worry about missing that 8k. I missed the WDW 1/2 this past year. It happens sometimes. And just blame the lazy phase on winter. Thats what I do.

Alright, time to schedule my classes for my last semester in college :woohoo:

Tracey - thanks for asking. I am doing well. I never really filled anyone in on how stressful my life was this month but boy, did I stop running and start eating. Last year I ran 66 miles in March. This year I did 36. I am feeling better after taking some stress off the plate.

I ran a 3 mile race on Saturday. Being 10 lbs heavier than last year and not having run much at all, I set my sights low. I ran the race in 25:10 which was only about 30 seconds per mile slower than last year. I was actually surprised and it has given me some confidence. I will have to figure out the minutes. Once spring really hits, I will be adding hours a day to the total by working outside. I love it. Maybe I will post a picture of the walls I have built around my property. Talk about minutes!!!

Hope everyone is doing well.

Hi all.
Suzann...I like the Jillian DVD. It's a quickie at only 20 min. and you can make it harder or easier by changing up the weight. I try to get to it 2-3 times a week, but I'm definitely noticing definition in my arms (which is a GOOD thing);).
Scott....Nice job on the 3 mile run! Great time! Hopefully, things will be getting less stressful for you soon.
Kirsty....all that training will pay off and I find that my training time is a great time to "clear my head".

My weeks are getting crazier and busier. I can't remember if I mentioned it or not, but my oldest son runs track and we're getting into that season now. So, it's one more thing on the books, but I love it! He makes it look so effortless. I wish I looked half as graceful while I run. Take care everybody and have a great one!

Steve~ Way to go with the workouts!! You rock! (and the soreness is a good kind, right?) :goodvibes

Scott~ Good job with the race! Slow and steady always wins!

Tracey~ Thanks for the review of the Jillian DVD. And you should run around the track with your son at the T&F meets. Ha!

OK pointing out the complete ovbious here but it is HOT in FL, I dont mean to complain really :cutie: I love it here but I just went out for a 4 mile run with the stroller to the park and back (I'm a nanny :lovestruc) and it didnt seem that hot before i left but it was BOILING!!! plus running with the stroller and all the kids stuff with the wind bloing towards us that has to add on like 100lb right:confused:because it felt like a 8mile :scared:

I also cant decide if i like running with the stroller or not, some of the pros are that I dont have to carry all my stuff, i can run while I am at work and watch tv while i am not :happytv: i have a destination (when you have promised a 2yr old you are going to the park its hard to turn around before you get there) and i also have my owm lil personal trainer saying "i'm bored" "run faster" "why are we walking?"
the cons are that I never know what I am doing with my hands they dont want to hold onto the stroller they want to be free! its hard work (although i am probably getting fitter by doing it) and the 2 yr old in the stroller egging you on can be a little frustrating when you are hot and exhausted:guilty:

anyway that was my complaining over for the day I am going to chill in front of the tv now :cool1: good job with all the training guys, keep it up :cheer2:

Kirsty

Hey team, I just finished my plyometrics workout and it was tough. The agenda for tomorrow is a 25 minute run/walk and an arms and shoulders workout.

Kirsty, I lived in Florida for a few months while I worked at Disney and it is hot. I've never tried running with a stroller but atleast youre getting paid to workout. I'm pretty sure my workouts end up costing me money somehow.

Tracey, A lot of my friends from highschool were into track and cross country. They actually offer to train with me when Im back home, but I choose to avoid the embaressment of trying to keep up with them.

Thats it for now. Later
