Team 'Ohana--No One Left Behind: The Continuing Adventures

So how is everyone? People have been awfully quiet on here recently. I hope you're all doing well and getting ready for a nice holiday week with your friends and family.

For anyone who is interested, here's a race report on Dublin. It's a great race and one highly recommended for those looking to race overseas.

See you all at WDW!

Hello cousins,

It sure is very quiet around here (insert crickets chirping).

John, congrats again on your great race in Dublin. :cool1:

Richard, how are you doing? I hope your recovery is going well. :goodvibes

Who is going to be racing at WDW in January and where are you staying?

My husband Rob & I will be arriving 1/11 and leaving 1/14. We're staying at the Boardwalk. We're doing the full and I'm looking forward to a post-race stroll through Epcot, preferably after stopping in England for a pint or two. :drinking1:drinking1

Who is going to be racing at WDW in January and where are you staying?

We're staying at Boardwalk (I think), arriving on Thursday and leaving on Tuesday. I'm looking forward to a fun weekend in the middle of the doctor, dentist, and other appointments we have while we're in the States.

We are at BW too and both running the full. Arriving late Wed and going home Tuesday.

Is there a bus from the finish back to BW or do most people walk? I couldn't remember from when we did princess 2 years ago if we walked or took a bus. In theory it's a "short" walk, but I was so miserable after the 20 miles mike and I ran this weekend that I think if I feel like that after the race he will have to get a wheelchair and push me back.:rotfl:

No idea if there's a bus or not. We've never stayed there before. We usually go to CBR, but this year, we're staying with a friend who is using DVC points. I assume there's a bus, though, since there's one to nearly all the other resorts.

There is a bus to all the Epcot hotels as the finish area is quite far away from the park itself. There is also a bus to the monorail hotels. The first few times I did these events I remember trudging my way up the monorail ramp with very tired legs. The bus is so much kinder.

Thanks for the info about the buses! :) I wouldn't want to walk up that monorail ramp either.

Thank you for asking! To me, this seems a long, slow process. However, every medical professional tells me how lucky I am to be recovering so quickly. That kind of talk kind of makes it hard to feel sorry for yourself for too long. I have started to see a physical therapist and and working on mobility of my shoulder for the most part. I have been cleared to resume light exercise as long as I hold back from activity that is painful. I have done an indoor cycle workout for almost 30 minutes, ran 1.75 miles which wiped me out and swam 100 yards of breast stroke over the last several days as a start.

At last year's races we stayed at the Dolphin. I walked back after the half and bussed back after the full.

I got a super good email to share with my cousins today! It started out "Congratulations Richard Tramm. You have qualified for the Olympic-Distance race at the 2013 USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships on August 10 in Milwaukee, Wis., after finishing in the top 10 percent in your age group at the 2012 Clear Lake International Triathlon." All I can say is WOW!!!!! :cool1: I had no idea it was a qualifying race. I may be injured but it still makes for a great end to my training year.

Congrats Richard! That's a great accomplishment!

Wow...the old place still looks good. :goodvibes

I am joining the Ohana boardwalk contingent. I come in late on Fri, then leave on Sun.

congrats Richard! Glad you're healing well. I think PTs are magical so I'm sure you're in good hands.

Merry Christmas Cousins! I hope you all have a wonderful day with family and friends.

Merry Christmas!!!
I hope everyone has had a good holiday season, and perhaps a bit of Disney snuck in there, too! I did get an Epic Mickey 2 game with Oswald ears for a touch of Disney to my day.:thumbsup2

HAPPY NEW YEAR... yes, I know I am a bad cousin. I talk to so many of you on Facebook that I forget about checking in here. I will be at Marathon weekend, hoping to hit the Pop meet. I am not sure about the Ohana meet, will let you all know. It is a short trip and the whole family will be along.

I am super slow this year. My New Year Wish/Want is to work on my running more. I had some knee and back issues and just figured less running and more walking would help me get through the marathon better this time around.

Hope to see some of you next week!

We'll miss you. Hope the recovery is still going strong.

Recovery has been OK.
Well, that's a lie, I hate having lost ground on my fitness and not being able to do everything I want. OTOH, I could have been far worse off from my injury than I was. I am healing and have started limited workouts again. My next follow-up appointment is on the 16th and I hope to be cleared for more activity and return to training for my next Ironman race in May.

You are seriously amazing! Another Ironman, way to go! :thumbsup2

I have been a terrible cousin... I havent set foot on a treadmill or out on a run since we finished our W&D in November. We came home to moving into our new house and even with a whole week off during the holidays we have been alternating colds and are STILL putting it all together. We built a shed in the snow, have put shelves around here and there, put all the xmas stuff up and then back down, and just yesterday decided to not pay 5K for the built in pantry we were quoted to match our new kitchen and to just buy a $250 glass door cabinet from Ikea so I spent all day yesterday putting that together and rearranging my kitchen AGAIN...

I NEED to get running again! I miss it, and I can FEEL that my legs are weaker on stairs. I also finally caught my first cold of the season after not catching any during our trip and xmas (everyone was dropping like flies... I think it was that I was so much healthier!). Besides that I want to run the Dumbo Double Dare in September as well as a St Patricks Day 15K in March. If I don't get done with the house and back into my groove it will be ugly!
