Team 'Ohana--No One Left Behind: The Continuing Adventures

Hi again! (Told you all that I would try to be a better and more reliable correspondent! :) )

Hope that you all had a wonderful weekend and great races or training sessions!

(I did yet another 5K - plus a little one-mile warm-up race - yesterday......at my rather "reasonable" (read: slow :) ) half marathon pace........which probably wasn't very "productive" in the long run........but it was a nice workout and a great event, anyway! :) )

Thanks very much, Richard! Hope to see you next weekend!

And so sorry that I won't see or be able to meet you next weekend, Corinna! :( I admire you for taking swimming lessons and for doing such a great job! I'm sure that your obvious skill and dedication will continue to get you to your goal! I know that swimming efficiently and properly is NOT easy - and I think it's fantastic that you're learning and practicing and having great progress! And I'll bet that your run today was actually much better and more productive than you're giving yourself credit for - you'll do wonderfully at that 10K and Half!

Congratulations on your 10K, this weekend, Jen! It sounds like you did a fantastic job! And belated congratulations on last week's Half, as well! So sorry that I've fallen behind with your (and everyone else's) news!

Looking forward to seeing and / or meeting all of you - Jen, Jeanne, Rose&Mike, Debra, Richard, Mel - and anyone else who may happen to be in the Sunshine State, next weekend! And hope to meet the rest of you some time soon, too!

Take care and have a great week, Everyone!
Lisa :)

I have some info on our race shirts......they will say "There of 9 more of us" and have our family name underneath. All joking aside, if you should come across anyone in one of these shirts, please give them a hearty shout-out (even if it is the competition!) Only hubby and I are WISH people, but I know the others will be very excited/surprised to be recognized.

Busy week for me here...I have a few projects to finish up and then need to pack and finalize the rest of the trip details. We arrive Thursday morning at OKW. It's our first time in a Grand Villa and I am so excited!

Looking forward to seeing all my old cousins and meeting some new ones!

Good morning cousins! Corinna, I will be home this weekend as well wishing I was at Wine & Dine. I was in Disney Sept. 30-Oct. 5 last year and enjoyed the event, really wish I could go for this race...

Oh well. I am in progress on my training for the Breast Cancer 3 Day which I have decided to do in Arizona Nov 12-14, instead of this weekend in DC. I knew I would change once I got my son's football schedule, and I am looking forward to being back in the Southwest.

After that, I hope to get down to training for another marathon. I have set my sights on the Shamrock Marathon in Virginia Beach in March. I have dreams of my husband coming to spend the weekend with me and maybe do the 8K event with me the day before the marathon...but he really isn't very supportive of my marathoning.

Of course the stray cousins come home when a race weekend approaches. I'm talking about me, not anyone else! :goodvibes :lmao:

Been a busy few weeks – actually took a temp job because I wanted to buy a new camera before the trip. And you know me, I've got to pay for it up front. So...that's the last time I add on that amount of work. I'm now feeling a bit under the weather, which I attribute to overwork, stress, and I'm flying to Disney tomorrow! (It all works together in my warped mind.)

About Food & Wine & Dine

  • Friday: DOOD and I have tix to MNSSHP Friday night (he flies in Fri. – Mon.). I'm up for a meet there or a casual Hi! I don't think I'll make the WISH meet proper because of DOOD's flight schedule.
  • Saturday: Not sure if I'm spectating the MK race. I'd like to, but am afraid of burning DOOD's candle at both ends. (No comments from the peanut gallery.)
  • I've got a bunch of food and wine seminars to catch during the weekend – I'm pretty flexible with Saturday afternoon, though. Since I'm not running, I have no concerns with eating and resting or taking time to get to a destination. It seems a lot of people are staying in the Epcot area, so maybe Beaches & Cream? An afternoon time?
  • We're planning on spectating, at least in the first few miles, for the Wine & Dine. I'm pretty sure we won't make it to the finish, though.
  • Sunday: I'm in Epcot during the morning for Sweet Sunday. I didn't know Pat, Wendy, Lily etc. were doing Sunday at MK. Dang. I've got some seminars at 5.
  • But I'm up for a Sunday night Jellyrolls. Well, I'm bound and determined we'll make it this time around. It's going to be a week of late nights, so what's one more.

Just now catching up on everyone's posts. Wow, everyone's races (esp. the DL half) looked like so much fun. It's what I miss about seeing you all.

Mel: We're on the same reading list. I've read "Hunger Games" and "Catching Fire." Thinking about picking up a copy of "Mockingbird" in the airport. How's the semester going?

John: I'm up for bar meets in general. One must always hydrate after a race. And Raglan Road could be a good time.

Jackie: Did your daughter get her internship?

Maria: Yay for the Princess. And an even bigger yay for running in Denver. I've tried it, and found it quite the challenge.

Jeanne: You are SO going to rock your relay. That's a great pace, and I absolutely love that you're your own secret weapon. I love your group shirts, including the Greek's. Orange shirt, huh? He'll stand out!

Christine: I've heard good things about the Shamrock, and hope that you decide to do it. Hubby or no. (Hugs for the non-supportive partner. That can be rough.)

AFM: Well, in addition to the job....One of my freelance gigs (academic) is dried up, at least for now. So, I'll have more free time if less money. I'm thinking of joining a class at my gym instead of pursuing another gig. I've managed to gain a small child's worth of weight in 2010. Got to work on that over the next few months. It's slowing me down.

We booked for marathon weekend at Caribbean Beach. DOOD's request for a new moderate, so... My knee's been acting up running, but all I've been doing are hills and trails. I'm hoping running at WDW will help heal it.

Okay, I'll try to catch up with everyone over the next couple of days. I'll be at Disney 8 nights, most of them solo, so I'll be writing and working into the night. Such a glamorous life.

We'll be there, not sure when. DD7 is wearing Cleopatra this year, while DD17 is Robina Hoodlum (girl Robin Hood). DH is pirating....I'm clueless. I have witch attire, but the shoes would not be good for walking MK, especially the night before a race, so I'm thinking hippie :hippie:

2pm?

Semester's good. I am midway through my 3rd year class, the 2nd year's elective starts next week, then I have students starting rotations at my clinical site at the end of October.

Beaches & Cream?

Dang! I just got the email that I have a meeting with the Disney Moms Panel on Saturday from 2.30 – 3.30 at the Odyssey in Epcot. Any way we could meet at 1:00 or 3:00 (I could come a bit late and/or leave a bit early.)

Of course, I'm open to majority rule as to when people want to meet. What's best for registered Wine & Dine participants! :goodvibes

3:00 @ Beaches and Cream (Saturday) works for me as well, is that OK with you also, Mel? ...anyone else?

I'm also leaning towards a Friday MNSSHP (but I think I mentioned that already). Assuming I get a ticket before it sells out, that is.

Debra - Jellyrolls sounbds great, and is one thing I was already considering. You can count me in for this one. I'll already be near exhausted, but what's a few more hours, right?

We are up for Beaches and cream--I think.:goodvibes And the plan for Sunday (if we are not falling over;)) is to go to DHS in the evening (I love riding TOT at night) and then head over to Jellyrolls. So that sounds great. If anyone would like to join us at DHS, let me know.

We fly out tomorrow evening. Praying that storm goes through quick. We have had the worst luck with cancelled flights lately.

Sorry, I don't have time to comment more. Good luck to everyone running! I will check in again tomorrow.:goodvibes

Good luck and safe travels to everyone heading to Wine & Dine this weekend. I hope the storms blow by quickly and you're all able to get there without any trouble or delay. Keep us posted on how things are going and let us know your bib numbers so we can sign up for the race tracking. :cheer2:

Debra: We totally appreciate you coming out and cheering for however much you can. You are meeting with the MOMs panel-- did you make the cut?

W&D peeps: are we set on 3:00 on Sat? I think we may be able to get there-- not sure what we are doing on Sat but if we are in the area we will come by.

My plans for the weekend are pretty rough. We are trying to meet up with some friends as well which may complicate things a bit. We arrive tomorrow and are going to try for some nice "grown-up" dinner at California Grill (don't have ressies but will be at the door when they open in case). Figure we will do a bit of MK that night. We check into BWV on Friday then are doing the Backstage Magic tour-- total splurge for us but should be fun. May try to get to AK if possible for the meet but will need to hit the expo somehow first. We are doing the 5K at a nice, slow pace on Sat am and not sure of the daytime plans before we do the half at night. No idea what we will do on Sunday before we catch our evening flight.

Just wanted to post a very quick wish for safe travels, a wonderful race, and good times for all this weekend!

Maria :upsidedow

3 is good! See y'all there!

I really hope that we can meet up with everyone at some point. Mike and I will be staying at BWI. We won't be there until Sat. morning. Our plan is to go to the expo, have lunch and hope that our room is ready early so that we can get a nap before the race. We have a high school football game to go to on Friday night and then have to be up at 3:30 am on Sat. for our drive to the airport. UGH!:upsidedow Saturday is going to be a long day.
I don't think we'll make the 3:00 pm Beaches and Cream meet but Jellyrolls sounds fun!

Hey Everyone!

Just wanted to check in before we blast off at 4:45 tomorrow morning (OY :) )!

Will definitely bear the Saturday meet in mind and see what we can do! DH and I will be doing the 5K in the morning and then may just take it easy until it's time to head over to W&D. But we'll keep up with the proposed plans and see if we'll be able to join in! No matter what, we'll see you all at the race(s) and maybe the Expo on Friday, too! :) We'll be at MNSSHP on Sunday night and F&WF on Monday!

Hope that all is well with all of you! Wishing everyone a great weekend!

And wishing all of the W&D cousins safe trips (stay away, storm!!!)! Will be looking out for you at the races!

Lisa :)

I'm here – at the AS Music – waiting for my camera battery to charge. (New camera, forgot to turn it off last night. Duh.) Not quite sure why folks love Pop vs. AS so much. So far they seem pretty interchangeable. Need to give the resort layout, food, etc. a real look today. Loving my AP rate, though, and the room was immaculate!

I had a run this morning, just a short one. Hot and humid at 5.45 a.m. I think it was cooler last night at 10.00, so good news for our Wine and Diners.

Good luck to everyone flying out. I had an uneventful flight, except for excited children and an armrest hog. Reading the 3rd book in the "Girl with the Dragoon Tattoo."

So, I'll plan on seeing you folks @ Beaches and Cream shortly after 3.00. earlier if the Moms folks bore me. :rotfl: (@Jen. No, this isn't a "you advanced to the next round" good news moment. It's a Disney Parks Blog thing that I stumbled into, and am hoping for some face time and future contacts. We'll see, though, as I'm not sure what's going on exactly.)

I like the AS resorts too. That's where we usually stay when we're there. The only reason I switched to Pop for the Goofy in 2011 is the bus lines. Since all three AS resorts are served by the same bus, the line for AS after the races is a lot longer than the line for Pop and every other resort. There must have been 200 people in line after the half last winter, not what you want after a race run in the sleet and freezing rain when you're shivering and your teeth are chattering. Other than that, I think they're nice resorts.

I'd been doing a pretty good job at keeping my excitememnt in check, until I started reading this thread this morning and seeing all the final plans to leave and those (Debra) already there. I'm going over my packing list this morning as I wait for a 9:00 meeting, for which I had to drive to the other side of Houston at an early hour (going from The Woodlands to Friendswood, John). Right now it seems my biggest decision will be the wearing the heavier weight, more yellow WISH shirt vs. the lighter weight more green trail-style WISH shirt---well that, and where the heck I will park at the airport.

Debra - The AS Music, really? I'll be there tomorrow. It's my first foray into the sub-moderate Disney hotel range--not that I'm a hotel snob, though it's also my first child-free (and solo...sigh... ) trip. Btw, do you know when you would here about the Mom's panel, if you get moved to the next round?

John - Hearing about bus stories was my only real concern about the All Stars, so it's also the first time I rented a car at Disney...at least teeth chattering is less likely to be an issue for me this trip. ;)

While I am here, does anyone know if I should have a problem trying to bring my car Garmin GPS unit on my carry-on bag for my flight? I didn't see anything on the TSA website that seemed to indicate that it would be a problem, but I never really know with them :confused3 .

Well, I am off to my meeting and then to my office, when I levae my meeting I'll be easily within 24 hours of my arrival at MCO tomorrow (just before 11:00 am!).

Richard: we never had any problems with our "car GPS" on the plane, so you should be ok.

Looking forward to seeing people this weekend! :woohoo:

Have fun this weekend everyone! And someone have some soft serve ice cream and/or drink a Welsh Dragon for me, OK?

I hope the weather will be comfortable. Take lots of pictures! Have fun at Jellyrolls! Safe travels!!!

P.S. Richard - I have never had a problem with my car-gps at the airport either. Just don't carry it through the metal detectors in your pocket and you should be FINE. :)

Thanks, Corinna and Jen, I appreciate the GPS advice. I'll now be happily bringing mine along. Hard to believe with all my times at WDW, this will be the first time I do any driving (at least other than Test Track, Indy Speedway,...).
I'm packed and will be heading out in the a.m.
