Corinna: No, I haven't really been using a training plan. I've just been working out on my elliptical and going out running somewhere when my husband's off of work. I know distance wise I'm fine, I'm just slow in general.
You are right that if you are running any portion of this, you will be in no danger of being behind pace. I also agree with Terri - the 5K's I've seen run by Disney, they did not seem to be sweeping at all. It makes sense - they start early enough that even if people are doing 20 minute miles, they will still clear the park well before park opening, and there aren't any road closures to worry about. You're going to be awesome!
- I'm serious about the Bourbon Chase in 2011. Because I seriously love bourbon.
- Dances with Dirt races. I've been to Hell, Michigan. Aptly named.
Corinna: Are the DL hotels closer to the 1/2 start? Enough to make a difference, given we all do the death march to the start for the January races? (Ooops, I guess I'm not over the Blizzard of 2010 yet.) DOOD, like your friends, are woefully undecided. Methinks he'll be annoyed if I announce I've made plans without him. Price, of course, is an issue. Hope you're feeling okay!
Debra, you know that I seriously love Bourbon as well.

A 24 hour relay event sounds like crazy fun, too.
From the pictures of Hell, MI, I would say you're right. The Baraboo race would be an adventure in weirdness, but the timing is wrong for me on that one. Truth be told, I'm not actually that interested in being that dirt-encrusted.
The
Disneyland Hotel is the most conveniently located as the expo is held in its convention center and the race start/finish is staged from the hotel's parking lot. Paradise Pier and GC are just up the street. The others that are within walking distance, well, there is no chance of freezing rain, anyhow, but it does add probably a mile each way, and if you're going to do much park touring beforehand, that trek could feel like a larger addition than you want. I had spent the three days prior to the race last year tromping through the park with my kids. Lots and lots of people stay over at those hotels on the other side of the parks, though, and walk to the start the mornings of the races. I don't think it's so bad, really.
As for me: I can't believe I forgot this in my goal setting (XP with my WW Blog):
While I was losing, I had read about the
National Weight Control Registry. It is a long term study of successful weight maintenance and in order to register, you must have lost at least 30 pounds and keep it off for 1 year. Friends, I want to be part of the National Weight Control Registry, and so one of my new goals is to maintain my weight for 1 year.
Yes, this seems obvious, and it is not at all that I intend to stop maintaining at that point, but putting that specific timeframe on it makes it feel like a much more concrete goal. It is also something that many people who lose weight do not accomplish, and I love a challenge.
It will also put me well on my way to increasing my odds of staying at my ideal weight indefinitely, according to this quote from a
CNNhealth.com article:
"The good news is that weight maintenance gets easier over time. After
two to five years, the odds of keeping the weight off increase greatly.
Achieving and staying at a healthy weight does take planning and
effort, but the rewards are great."
So along with my specific racing goals for the year, I believe I have found my focus once more.
