Cast: me (30), DH (30), DD (4)- new Splash Mountain enthusiast
Oh no- it's here! Our last day in the parks.
We got up this morning (cant remember the time, but we probably left the CBR at 8:30am), checked out of CBR, and drove to MGM. We wanted to do a few things we missed there. Walked in just after 9am. The Green Army Men from Toy Story were putting on a recruit class show out by the sorcerer's hat, so we watched that. DD didnt want to go up and meet them, though (because they were mad at Woody). DH went up and got an autograph, though.
After this, we headed for the Great Movie Ride. This ride was pretty good, although it wasnt that exciting for DD, as she didnt know a lot of the movies involved.
Next it was off to play some more games at Pizza Planet. We then did Star Tours 2 more times at DD's request. Next we foolishly tried to eat lunch at Sci Fi without a PS. The wait was around 75 minutes, which we may actually have waited for, except that we really wanted to get back to the MK today and do DD's favorite rides again. Instead, we ate lunch at ABC Commissary. This wasnt the most thrilling lunch, but nothing bad. We waited a while in line, but all employees were pleasant and our food was as good as could be expected. The funny thing is, I cant even remember what any of us ate, except that I ordered the kids mac & cheese and liked that (DH and I had a tiff while waiting in line so I was pouting through most of this meal. LOL) Eating there turned out to be worth it, though, because right after leaving the Commissary, we happened upon Mike & Sully from Monsters, Inc., who had just come out and had no line to see them.
Next we thought we might ride Tower of Terror (DD had decided she wanted to do this, even though we thought it was probably too much for her). However, here we encountered our first long wait of the trip (40-50 minutes). We decided not to wait, as we really wanted to get back to MK.
So, we bade farewell to MGM and drove over to the Magic Kingdom. We enjoyed the Main St. atmosphere for a while and then took the train over to Toontown. DD wanted to ride Goofy's Barnstormer again (I was shocked that she didn't want to head straight for Splash Mountain). I can't remember the order in which we did the next things, but we also took time to stand in line to meet Peter Pan and to see the Country Bears show (which we had missed before) before heading for the castle to see Cinderella's Surprise Celebration show.
We arrived at the castle in plenty of time to catch the show (3:40 show time, I think). I got us some sodas and popcorn to munch on while waiting. The show was great. DD has taken a liking to Cinderella and was planning to dress up like her for Halloween, so it was a real treat for her to see this show. It was really cute and we all enjoyed it. We had a fairly good viewing spot and I got a lot of great pictures.
After the show, we headed straight for Splash Mountain. DD couldn't wait any longer.
She and I rode it twice while DH waited (he is such a water ride scrooge
). DD wanted to ride again and again, but we knew we had to leave some time (she also was insisting on going back to Toontown, so we needed to get on our way, especially since a line was building up at Splash).
So, we made our way back to Toontown and we all rode Goofy again. DD had to go "one last time" so DH took her back on while I headed in to County Bounty on a quest to finally find a cute souvenir sweatshirt for DD. Mission accomplished. We took the train back to Main St., but took our time exiting.
I hit a few more shops trying to find an acceptable sweatshirt for me (mission accomplished there, too) and we finally, grudgingly, made our way out. It was around 6:30pm. We would have stayed until the bitter end, but we were hitting the road for Daytona Beach that evening for the last leg of our trip. We took the ferry boat back to the parking lot and waved to the castle as we floated away.
We stopped at the big McDonalds near the All Star resorts for dinner. This McDs was really neat and we all enjoyed eating there. I had to take pictures of the building from the outside. DD loved the fact that they were playing Jungle Book 2 on a huge screen inside the restaurant.
After this, it was finally time to leave Disney property for the last time and make our way to Daytona. We spent 3 days there and had a nice time (including visiting Kennedy Space Center), but it paled in comparison to our Disney leg of the trip. We will be back in the near future!!
Highlights of the day: Cinderella's Surprise Celebration show, riding Splash Mountain with DD and seeing the pure joy on her face
