Team Mickey, an athletic-gear and souvenir store at Downtown Disney, will close in favor of Marketplace Co Op, a store-within-a-store concept that's set to open in spring 2014, the company said Friday.

Once open, the Co Op will feature six slots for shops featuring beauty and fashion accessories for women and girls, home products with a dash of Disney theming, vintage-inspired sports apparel plus D-Tech on Demand, a spot with personalized and customized electronic accessories.

"It will be an incubator to introduce exciting new Disney retail shops and products," Tom Sheldon, manager of retail design and development for Disney Theme Park Merchandise, told the Disney Parks Blog. Work on the Co op building, on the Marketplace side of Downtown Disney, will begin in early 2014.

I liked that store but something new is exciting. They are trying this new store in a store concept and I'm interested how it will work. I also wouldn't be surprised if this continues throughout the new Disney springs expansion project.

That was the one place at DTD where I actually bought stuff for myself. Mostly golf apparel. I'm sure they will still be selling that stuff somewhere.

I was actually looking forward to getting myself some golf stuff while I'm there in a few weeks. Now I wonder where we can get those things?

Team mickey has had the same merchandise in it for years and years. Boring and stale. Glad to seethe space being used for something elsè.

Probably over at ESPN Wide World of Sports, but not 100% certain of it.

You should head over to the Magnolia/Palm Golf Course pro shop. They have all of the Disney golf items in Team Mickey and quite a bit more.

You could also check the shop attached to the ESPNZone at the Boardwalk resort, they carry some athletic gear there.

All of the pro shops at the courses have golf gear. I did notice that team Mickey had more of a selection of different things I hadn't seen it the individual shops, not that I had checked each shop each visit though.

Awww man...was just thinking about the guy who makes the custom baseball bats yesterday and how cool a job that is...now he's going to be out of work. :(

While true, that's merchandising's fault. I think the location and product still had merit--I'm may not be golfing on a family trip and can't get to one if the clubhouses, but I may still want golf merchant for my rounds at home.

Sad to see it go. I've bought a few things there over the years. Sadly they never embraced hockey though.

Does anyone know whats going to happen to RIDEMAKERZ? We are visiting WDW in April and my 7 yr old son was really looking forward to making a car, hes going to be really disappointed if he cant make one :worried:

Go to the palm or magnolia golf course at Disney and the pro shop will have much more to choose from.

I hope they really DO introduce new things. Disney Parks merchandising has eliminated almost everything unique and homogenized all the shirts and stuff down to the point where it no longer matters which park or DTD shop you are in, they all sell the same things.

D-Tech accessories are the same everywhere, for example. And they ARE everywhere, in many, many shops. I'm not sure why we need another place to D-Tech shop.

They've already been in two different spots at DTD. I'm sure they'll move again when the time comes. This is not a new story, and Team Mickey is not closed yet. They may still be at the current spot when you are there in April. Stuff at Disney moves at a glacial pace, especially at DTD...

Thanks so much! I really hope it is still open...my son was heartbroken when I told him yesterday that they may or may not be open when we go. Although he got over it fast when I told him Sophia and Doc McStuffins are joining Jake and Handy Manny for the Disney Junior Breakfast, lol. I figured I'd give him the bad news and then the good news to make him forget about the bad news lol
