Team Mickey - Biggest Loser "No Excuses" 2012 Challenge

GOOD MORNING LOSERS!!!!!!

wake up! it's friday! it's a brand new day to lose!

QOTD: How are YOU doing with the challenge so far? What's the hardest part? What will keep YOU working hard in this challenge beyond the end of January??

Thanks for being our coach this week, Nancy! :cheer2:

I've done all my planned workouts. I've been gradually eating better each day, easing back from the holiday excess. All the yummies I made are gone, and we restocked fruit and veggies last week. Of course those are gone now because we ate them :rotfl:

I would stay I'm off to a slow start. The hardest part is definitely not eating between dinner and bedtime. I will keep working hard after January as I will be very close to my next race. After the race I will have a quick downtime, but get back to eating right and exercising as soon as I can. That's the key for me -- getting back to what works -- Consistency!

Oh! And Thanks to Lisah for being our fabulous first week coach! :worship:

QOTD: How are YOU doing with the challenge so far? What's the hardest part? What will keep YOU working hard in this challenge beyond the end of January??

GO TEAM MICKEY!!

I am doing pretty good so far, 3lbs down. :thumbsup2 Of course the first week is always the easiest for me.

The hardest part is also what will keep me working hard beyond January. I cannot think of this as a 'diet'. If I do, when I hit goal, I will go back to eating the same way that caused my weight gain. This has to be a 'WOE' (way of eating) for me, not a 'diet'. A diet has an ending point, a woe does not.

Happy Friday!
Jo

I just get a can or two of Black Beans (seasoned or plain) and rinse them in a strainer and let drain. I spread them out on paper towels to dry a little more but don't stress that they are totally dry. Then put a little bit of olive oil in a big bowl, add the beans and shake until they are all coated. You can stir with a spoon but I don't want to break any of the beans. Then add whatever seasonings you want. I add A LOT of garlic powder and some kosher salt and shake. You can taste them raw and see what you think of the seasoning. Spread them on a baking sheet and put in the oven at about 400 for around 20-30 mins. I usually turn the oven off and leave them in there for about an hour to dry them more. Let cool and then put in a ziplock bag or sealed container

This is a really loosey goosey recipe. Use any type of beans you like-- you will find a lot of recipes for Roasted Chickpeas on the internet. Adapt them for any beans you like. Add what every seasonings you like. You can make them sweet or savory. Then use them any way you want. You can eat them straight out of the bag, use them as croutons to add that taste and crunch with no carbs in a salad or soup.

The bigger beans take longer to cook and I have found that leaving them in the turned off oven after the initial time adds that crunch, otherwise they are usually still soft in the middle. Also the black beans "pop" so the are UGLY! Don't let that dissuade you. :)

"A pint's a pound the world around."
16 oz of water weighs a pound. You eat breakfast and drink a cup of juice/water/coffee? You have a snack and a glass of water? You eat lunch? All of that is weight you are adding in to your body during the day and it will show up on the scale. Go to the bathroom and it will go down sometimes significantly depending on the circumstance ;) . Didn't eat and/or not drinking fluids? Did you just work out and sweat a lot? Dehydration will show a loss, sometimes pretty big. I weigh every morning--first thing, after I go to the bathroom and totally nakkie-- but you aren't really going to do anything but drive yourself insane if you weigh throughout the day. Especially if you weigh in the morning nakkie and then have clothes on later. If you are doing what you are supposed to and drinking your water and eating regular healthy meals then you SHOULD be adding 3-4 pounds during the day.

DD16 and I had breastfeeding problems. Since we had no idea how much milk she was getting I had to rent a very sensitive scale and we would weigh her right before we fed her and then immediately after with NO changes to her other than eating. If she had a dirty diaper it had to stay on because that weight was the same if it was inside of her or in her diaper. If a sock came off it had to go back on. We were able to see very clearly that she was only getting a few ounces of breastmilk at each feeding. Everything that goes in weighs something and will show up on the scale.

So drink your 4 pounds of water daily and know that you are absolutely helping the big picture. :goodvibes

Thank you so much for the encouragement! Yes, no more multi-weighs in a day! Yes, I weigh first thing in the morning, sans clothes, so I get a true measurement. I drink all my water, and eat throughout the day, so that makes sense that my weight would go up during the day. Thanks!! :thumbsup2

And thanks for the recipe! I am going to try that this weekend. I'll let you know how that goes.

My 14 year old son had issues similar to what your described for your DD16. It was a nightmare for a little while there.

Thank you so much! :)

GOOD MORNING LOSERS!!!!!!

wake up! it's friday! it's a brand new day to lose!

You sure are perky at 2:15 am! :lmao: THANK YOU for being our coach this week! :flower3:

QOTD: How are YOU doing with the challenge so far? What's the hardest part? What will keep YOU working hard in this challenge beyond the end of January??

Oh yay! :yay: I always love a good Aunt Ann saying. She is one smart cookie!

I'm doing good with the challenge so far! :thumbsup2 I was down two pounds -- almost squeaked into that last decade before ONE-derland. I think the hardest part for me right now is that I am tired. I've been so on, and so successful, the last few months, I need to keep the pressure on as we go into the Tinker Bell. :tink: But I'm ready for a little break. I did my longest run ever today, 15 miles, and boy am I pooped! :faint:

Hi, well didn't do well checking in every day this week. No drama, just lack of sleep and too much to do. Hoping to get back into a routine this week after the holidays. I am getting ready to PM my weight and thought I'd check in. Have a great weekend everyone.

No worries! :goodvibes Just check in when you can!

Hi! Im new to the thread-just joined I have been doing ok making better food choices this week, I need to log my calories and start exercising this weekend. I have 30 pounds to lose BEFORE Disney this year(spending a few hours at a water park will motivate me)

:welcome: mommyof3princess27!

:welcome: also to graciesmom77!

Gretchen, sorry about your fall. Hope that you are feeling better. :flower3:

Good morning Team! Hope e eryone is having a great Friday!
I've done well this week on exercizs and drinking water, also with eating fruit. Had a hard time in the evenings with overeating. Will weigh in tonight.

Woo hoo for an on plan week! :woohoo:

Its FRIDAY:banana:

TGIF for sure! ::yes::

Your poor hands.

I have discovered that I still seem to be jetlagged, so no exercise done this week....napping :thumbsup2 unpacking :thumbsup2 banking :thumbsup2 grocery shopping :thumbsup2 schoolwork ready for Monday but that's about it. Oh-EXCEPT DD gave me EIGHT POUND weights for Christmas, and I have done a few reps each day (and I REALLY mean FEW!!!) since I got home on Wednesday. For now.......my bed is calling me.

I don't blame you for being jet lagged. Can't wait to hear about your trip! :cool2:

but overall my biggest struggle is having confidence that i will be successful. I have been in challenges before and not lost and took it in stride, but then after a few weeks pass and folks get excited b/c those small losses are adding up to big losses i find myself very envious. daily i remind myself that small changes and small results WILL indeed add up to big changes and big results i just need to dig deeper and find some patience!

Molli, I know you can do this! One of my BL friends just sent me something today reminding me to BELIEVE in myself. :tink: I'm passing those good thoughts on to you!

Ok. Down 2 pounds as of this morning, was 4 yesterday...could be something to do with an entire bottle of champagne and a good portion of said nacho tray mentioned awhile back.

I bet you can get rid of those other two pounds this week! :goodvibes

BRB with a few more replies.

What will keep me working hard on this is the fact that I'm just plain sick and tired of losing the same 5-10 over and over again

I don't blame you and I'm confident that you will be successful this year! :thumbsup2

If I lost a pound a week from now til the end of the year I'd be WELL under 200 pounds and VERY close to my goal weight.

Great goal! ::yes::

:cheer2: That is wonderful! And a pound a week is the healthy way to go. I am in the same situation, a pound a week for a year would have me at my goal. Sounds so easy doesn't it?

You can do it! :thumbsup2

I'm really pleased with my progress this far. Down 2 pounds since the challenge started and 12 pounds over all. My blood glucose levels are slowly coming down as well.

You're off to a great start. :cheer2: Don't worry abou the big number -- just take it one pound at a time -- it will add up!

I'm down 2.5 pounds at weigh in this morning and looking forward to next weeks weigh in! Hoping for at least the same!

Great job! pixiedust: and good thoughts coming your way!

now, when you read this....GO DRINK A GLASS OF WATER! DO IT! don't read anymore until you do. GO!

Yum that was tasty! :hippie:

Thanks Lisah0711. I would love to meet you all. I really have enjoyed getting to know everyone. What a wonderful, inclusive, warm & welcoming group of people! I am truly blessed!

The WISH meet is Saturday and there will also be a podcast meet on Sunday at DL Hotel. One of the DL podcasters is running to raise money for GKTW and Pete and Walter are going to be there. I've got to shake Pete's hand and thank him for the Disboards! ::yes::

I have my days that are better than others with water. I'm not drinking anything else, I'm just not drinking much of anything some days. Working hard to change that!

Sent in my weight loss for the week. Down 3lbs :cool1:

Looks like the water is working just great for you! :hippie:

Thanks for being our coach this week, Nancy! :cheer2:

Slow and steady wins the race! :thumbsup2 Did you see the Runners World article on FB today -- a 2 pound loss equals 52 second reduction in time in a half marathon. princess:

I am doing pretty good so far, 3lbs down. :thumbsup2 Of course the first week is always the easiest for me.

Way to go, Jo! :yay:

Good Evening Team Mickey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please remember to PM your weight to dvccruiser76. Her name is Sue and please tell her that you are on Team Mickey.

Keep those Healthy Habits points coming!

QOTD: I am doing terrible. I can't get back into the habit of journaling. I'm not drinking enough water and I've only exercised once. I am determined to make this week a better week. The Wii was not working well this morning, so I will try to weigh-in tomorrow morning.

Today was a pretty busy day. I went to a job searching seminar. I have to go to a place in Mass. because that's where I used to work and the place is almost an hour away. It was worth it though. I learned some valuable information. I will probably be going to another one next week, plus one that is offerred at my town's library.

I also met my sister today. She wanted to get some new work clothes so I joined her for that. She was unsuccessful. The mall we went to has an Apple store so I had my iPod checked. I needed a new one and once it has charged, I will know if it works. We went to Target and I bought some Valentine's Day wrapping paper. My mom things I'm nuts that I'm going to wrap the stuff I "buy" (aka get almost free thanks to couponing) for my sister and brother-in-law. I just figured for $1.00 it would give me something to do and make things a little more fun for the two of them.

I apologize for being so MIA lately. I should be around more tomorrow. Off to job search and drink some water.

Have a great weekend everyone!

CC

popping in quickly again.
Trying to get motivated, and I just can't.

But on the up side. DS11 has decided to switch schools so my life is being simplified a little and the household stress level will go way down. I hope we can use this to ramp up the next phase of our lives.

OH and DH applied for a local job!!!! He hasn't had a local job since DS15 was born!!!!

QOTD: How are YOU doing with the challenge so far? What's the hardest part? What will keep YOU working hard in this challenge beyond the end of January??

This is going to sound funny, but remembering that I'm doing this has been hard! Old habits die hard! Went to lunch with a friend yesterday, ordered smartly, then ate 2 pieces of bread from the bread basket without even considering it! And drinking the water. Haven't gotten into the habit yet.

I'm down 2.5 pounds at weigh in this morning and looking forward to next weeks weigh in! Hoping for at least the same!

We have a had a super stressful 2 days here. DH came home from work with some unsettling news on Wednesday, and yesterday my DS16 was in an accident, he hit a pedestrian that ran out in front of him. He was charged with nothing, totally not his fault, and the girl he hit is going to be fine, but it has been stressful. Trying to walk through the stress instead of eating through it.

Proud of everyone doing so well and staying on track!!!

Wow that's a scary thing your son is going though I'm sure. I hope he's doing better I can't imagine the stress of hitting someone even if they are fine and it isn't my fault.

:cheer2:Congrats on the weight loss:cheer2:

Well, today is shaping up pretty good.

So far I've gotten laundry done and took a walk with the dog. We walked for over an hour by the time we got back home. Beautiful weather for Jan:sunny:

Now its water time and then an abs/stretch workout with my ball. God, I love my stability ball. Afterwards its lunch time:thumbsup2

I've been thinking about getting a stability ball to use as a chair for part of the day at work but have no idea what size I'd need for that. I used to love using it at the gym when I used to go though.

Today was a day of getting my hair and nails done which was nice. I had In N Out for lunch though....I figure if I do good for dinner maybe it will even out.

I also went to a local organic store and got some fruits and veggies so that should help. I better go Conner is wanting to play

I just wanted to say that I drank my water!!

Focus on the positives!

Ahhhhhh! TGIF, everyone! :drinking1

Just wanted to thank so many of you for the encouragement this week! The new job went well this week (as well is it can for your first week). Believe it or not, I also managed to lose 7 pounds! A LOT of water loss, obviously, but glad I could keep things on track this week.

Hope everyone had a good week as well. My food choices weren't the best today, but I still managed to not overeat. I'm really trying to make better food choices, but even when I don't, manage to control the portions. One thing I have noticed (and I know so many of you will relate) is that I'm filling up on much, much less. I'm also eating more slowly at meals, which always helps.

Let's all strive to not blow it this weekend! When you're feeling weak, LOG ON! :lmao: Thanks once again for the well wishes. Please continue to keep me in your prayers for both the job and the weight loss journey. Onward and upward (or in our case, downward), right? :goodvibes

:grouphug:

P.S. to my Buckeye Fans...OH-IO! :cheer2:

I've been thinking about getting a stability ball to use as a chair for part of the day at work but have no idea what size I'd need for that. I used to love using it at the gym when I used to go though.

The balls go by height. 55cm for short people 65cm for avg/tall height and 75 for really tall people. Go to any store that sells them and just read the boxes. I use a 65cm ball and its burst proof to so much weight. I mean really heavy weight. I was letting my niece play with it once when she was down with parents and my dad didn't want her playing with it, I told him there was no way she could break it.

It is my favorite piece of exercise equipment. It really works me, but it feels SO GOOD:love:

have you tried aquaphor? that stuff is the BEST!

Actually, my AVON Intensive Moisture Lotion is really really great. This is an aberration since I've started using that, and I think its because the air has been so dry in the store and all the cardboard I've been touching lately. This is the first time since I've started using it almost 2 yrs ago that I've needed to take drastic measures like this.

1 of the reasons i love selling AVON is cause of access to stuff like this. :thumbsup2

So I am down 2.4 so far for this challenge. I'm pretty happy with that since I usually struggle with losing 1 pound a week. I swear I have the slowest metabolism in the world...lol :rotfl:

QOTD: How are YOU doing with the challenge so far? What's the hardest part? What will keep YOU working hard in this challenge beyond the end of January??

So far I'm doing good. :woohoo:

**I've drunk all my water everyday, and some days a little more than my goal this week of 4 glasses a day :cool1:
**I've workout out everyday for my 10 minutes (goal for week)...tomorrow I will start shooting for 20 minutes a day :dance3:
**My eating has been pretty good. I've stuck to my goal of less carbs, and smaller portions...I did have a couple rolos (PMS is going strong), but only had 3 :yay:

I wanted to check in again tonight. My earlier post was done on my phone while on the elliptical at work. My keying was terrible but at least it's readable, mostly! LOL

QOTD: How are YOU doing with the challenge so far? What's the hardest part? What will keep YOU working hard in this challenge beyond the end of January??

I'm doing a little better with the challenge than I thought. As I posted earlier, the evenings are my weakest time. I'm going to try dumbo buddy's method to ward off the evening overeating, sugar free hot chocolate sipped slowly or by using a spoon. Thanks Nancy!
As for continuing to do well beyond January, I'm gonna need the Team's help!

lovetoscrap, I love Roz's voice in Monsters Inc.! I use to practice imitating her voice and saying, "Don't come back without all-l-l-l your paperwork!" :lmao: I bought a Disney pin of Roz when at Disney World a few years ago. I pinned her to my cubicle wall at work! :rotfl:

I want to thank our coaches lisah and dumbo buddy! You rock! :thumbsup2

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! Anyone that has especially struggled this week, I'll be sending positive thoughts your way! We're in this together! :grouphug:

Went a little off plan today.

That mild, possibly allergic reaction I mentioend yesterday became a full blown (not anaphylactic) today. At one point my para walked in and asked me if I knew my face was really red. It had been red yesterday so I didn't worry about it too mcuh, but when I looked in the mirror the whole left side was bright red and was mildly swollen. I went to the school nurse who suggested an antihistamine. Since I am allergic to Benadryl, I called my doc. I could not get in, but she did call in a steroid pack. It is still red.

By the tiem all was said and done I didn't feel like cooking. I did try to eat healthy (tuna and rice), but they also had this glazed bread and they were really slow getting my meal out to me. On the plus side, I logged it and tried to over calculate if anything. I was only up 211 calories today and I haven't finished out the day, so I may still end in a deficit. I have been in a calorie deficit all week, so it should be okay.

Still very sore. Pretty much my entire left back hurts-feels like I was kicked in the kidney or something-and my right knee hurts when I bend and unbend it. If I don't feel better by Monday I'll go to the doctor; if it seems to be getting worse this weekend I'll go to the local Urgent Care.

We went to Cracker Barrel for dinner and it wasn't very good. The food was very bland and everything was lukewarm. My potatoes were clumpy. Mom's chicken and dumplings looked very boring, white on white. Service was just okay. I had 2/3 of a fried haddock, a bit of mashed potatoes, one biscuit, one bite of cornbread, and some "Fried" apples, plus two sprites. Afterwards we stopped at WalMart and Mom got some snacky stuff that I was eating-banana bread and cheeze it party mix. But I did log everything.

Tomorrow I need to go by some of those vacuum seal space saver bags. Someone in the college program facebook group said she managed to fit all her clothes, bedding, and pillows in one duffle by using them! :thumbsup2 I need to take at least one pillow-I hate buying new things when I have perfectly good ones already! My bedding and towels have already been shipped down along with other miscellaneous items and are waiting for me at Old Key West. Only 3 more days and some odd hours!

This is a really loosey goosey recipe. Use any type of beans you like-- you will find a lot of recipes for Roasted Chickpeas on the internet. Adapt them for any beans you like. :worship: Thank you for this! I was dying for something savory and crunchy and celery was NOT cutting it. Happened to have a can of garbanzos in the pantry. REALLY hit the spot and saved me from what probably would have resulted in an ugly potato chip binge! Going shopping tomorrow and picking up some more garbanzos and some black beans to experiment.

I really can't believe how delicious those little buggers were ... and healthy!

7lbs!!! :cheer2: Wow, that is awesome!!!! You're my hero:worship:.
Will continue to keep you in my thoughts for your job & weight loss goals.
Have a good weekend.
