Team Hakuna Matata - MAY Thread!

HI All!

Thanks for all the welcome greetings! I'm Anne. Rpsemont is my user cp because I'm a miserable typist and
never can seem to see the obvious mistakes, and it was supposed to be Rosemont. So beware the typos!

I ran my first Official 5K this morning. :yay: My time was 37:25.
I was thrilled considering the 3+ miles I had been running had been coming in around 45 minutes. I ran into a friend there and actually ran the first full mile (in 11:04). I had never run that long before. Miles for this week is as follows:
Mon - rest (actually I work two jobs on Monday and can seldom squeeze in a walk)
Tues 3.2 miles - 45 minutes
Wed 2.25 mile 40 minutes (I only walked and stopped for herbs:)
Thursday 3.2 miles - 45 minutes
Friday 1.6 on the treadmil - 25 minutes
TODAY Probably a total of about 4.6 - time about 1:25
THere was the 5K, then DD who pooped out about 1/3 into the race, I had to walk back to her and make sure she could find her way to the finish, so that was probably another 1/2 mile or so - when I crossed the line with her the time was 55 Minutes, and then this afternoon I walked to the Town hall which is about 1/2 mile and then back.

The brief bio is I'm 52, never did much exercise until going to Pritikin last July. Since then, I've been pretty good about doing 30-45 minutes of cardio (walking) daily.
Decided a few weeks ago that maybe I'd do the WDW half Marathon. Originally was going to do the "long range" plan, 5k this summer, 10K in the fall, Minnie in May09 and half Marathon in Jan 10. well now that they've discontinued the Minnie, I think I'm going to try and sign on with a charity and just go for the half this Jan. We never get the cheap airfares in March that we get in Jan, so don't think the Princess will work out.
The family is me, DH, and DD (13)(condolences accepted:rotfl2: ) Actually, she's a good kid.
I work in an office days, and also hold the esteemed position of Town Treasurer in our small town, population about 1300. So Sunday morning (or all day) and monday nights are my "town hall times"
We're BIG WDW fans, DVC owners, and AP holders. We always go for 5+ days for Food and Wine and Presidents week in Feb. We try to squeeze in other trips if we can. The last two years we've gone in April during school break.

Nice to meet Y'all!

Anne

Rpsemont - Welcome neighbor. I live just north of you in Manchester NH.

Like Scott and Lynn we are in the midst of home repairs - specifically the living room. We worked till 11 last night and only god a small portion of wallpaperdown. Spray, scrape, spray, scrape. A long process. Granted we didn't start till late because we had to pick up paint - move furniture etc. Today more of the same. I only wish by tonight all the wallpaper will be down but highly unlikely.

So my workout time will be decreased because my energy will be expended elsewhere.

Off to get coffee and wake up. This up at 6, off to bed at 11 has got to stop.

Great Job Anne, Way To Go....

Denise, We also started at 0700 and ended at 1900. Got the mud and tape done on the south bed room. We also planted 5 shrubberies, and fixed the drip system.

I did get up and hit the TM this morn.

Dave I am looking for Bob Villa any moment now.

Well I gota go into work today, long drive then a late night are in store.

have a great Day you guys.

Good morning team. How is everyone today? Healthy and happy? As the song goes,"don't worry be happy". And as we all know, often being happy or being unhappy is a choice we make.

I wish I had the skills for home repairs and remodeling. I missed that gene for fixing, I break just fine but fixing totally is beyond by comprehension.:guilty:

My schedule has been train 5 days and then rest 2. But this morning I decided I was going out to walk anyway since I had something to hash out in my mind. I got ready got to the door and it started pouring rain. I just did the marketing instead. I ain't arguing with an omen like that.

I hope everyone else haqs better luck than I did this morning.:)

Good Morning Team!

We have had warm weather here, although it has been windy. We spent all of Friday in the basement, and yesterday morning in the basement, but we did get outside in the afternoon - to plant the "shrubbries". They look good, just do not know if they will survive the wind - we planted them in the "wind tunnel" we have between the house and the barn, in hopes of breaking up that wind. Our exercise for the weekend has been the renovating and gardening variety. The dogs have been ignored for 2 days, I will have to get them out for a walk today after Scott takes off for the other end of the state!

Erica - good to see that you are mending.

Have a great day.

Good Morning!

I'm at the town hall and MUSt get some work done so just stopping in to quickly say hi!

Denise and Scott and Lynn - I really admire your dedication to putting the time in on the house. We've been in ours for 17 years and it's really starting to fall into disrepair. We have a 3/4 bath (shower, sink, lav) and tore out the shower about 5-6 years ago. Its floor to ceiling 4" tiles, so we decided to remodel the whole thing. the last time DH's contractor friend quoted it, he said it would run $1000+ to strip it, so we decided to do it ourselves. That was two years ago. Just recently I started the task - worked 6 hours at it on Easter. Have managed a few more hours here and there. THe shower is completely stripped to the studs as are two of 4 bath walls. Ya know, I never really thought the time doing this manual labor as exercise. Maybe I'll work on the bath rather than do my 45 minutes of cardio one day - thinking like that will let me feel less guilty for "missing" my workout.

denise - my brother lives in laconia and I went to high school in keene so I pass through manchester periodically. If you hear of any 10K races this summer (especially flat ones) let me know. I'll be looking to try and do one in July or August.

So, I'll be at the town hall until around 4PM, then have to take DD to a softball game. I figure I'll put in an hour walk at the game.

Have a magical day everyone!

Anne

Hi, Rpsemont!

I failed miserably to send you a PM about our happy little group. In part because I just couldn't believe that WAS your user name. (Very glad to have that confirmed!)

I have been MIA for a couple of days. I had field day with the grandkids, Friday and then we had a major shopping spree yesterday. The shop is done, but we needed more shelving and storage boxes of all kinds. So, off we went to procure said items. As soon as the shop is loaded with all the stuff we have carted out of the garage and everywhere, the remodel will begin. We are turning the garage and one small (useless!) room into an exercise room. It already has a 3/4 bath and the laundry room in that area, so we are going to make it more user friendly! Should be lots and lots of fun!! :sad2:

Not much else going on...I have been doing XT and a few miles here and few miles there. The rain has been really wonderful but has left us in a mudhole!

We just did a 3 mile walk / with a little running. Looks like a gret day wish I did not have to drive so far.

A co-worker is have his bathroom redone, cost of $12,000 and he has to buy the fixtures. Call me cheep or thirfty, but I will do it myself.

Hi everyone! Just stopping in to say hi and I hope everyone is having a great weekend! It's raining up here in Toronto, not so great for long weekend weather. I decided to run on the TM instead. It's not as bad as I remember it - I think that's a result of the core work I've been doing.

Anyway, I'm off to lunch so chat later :goodvibes

Good morning team.

Today is my big workout day, which is good since the last 2 days were rest days. Walking then cals and stretching. Two hours of pushing the mower and a nice fish lunch. Then if it's early enouth a trip to the new Narnia movie.

Anyone else ready to go have adventures and hunt treasure with Indiana Jones besides me?

I have a whole outfit I could wear for the dinner at TLTT this year. Kim are you and Mike dressing up?

Have an awesome day everyone.

Good Morning Team!

Nice day here, I am headed out for a walk with the dogs shortly, then my new pilates tape and some weights. I get to spend the afternoon sanding dry wall! I still have to prep my wildflower bed, yesterday, the 40 mph wind tried to push me over every time I jumped on the shovel - so I gave up. It will be hot again today, high near 80 degrees.

Have a great day!

This is just a gentle reminder. I am missing miles and hours for the following people:

RoyalPrincess
Kewz1
nucpharm29
WithDisneySpirit
Cobbler
Bunnyfoo - the rest of this week.

I need your week May 8th through May 14th.

Thanks!

I'm ready! We watched #2 and #3 last night while still doing the wallpaper removal. My hands are a mess but we are 95% done removing the paper then we get to clean the paste off, patch and prime and finally paint!

I'll need a break this weekend so I'll treat the kids if they want. We're celebrating Nick's b-day a bit late so that will be fun.

Back to work - stopped by on my lunch break.

Will have workout times but very little miles this week. For sure when the repairs are done - I can't wait for that.

DearPanda,

Please submit photo of you in the Indiana Jones outfit. Please don't reveal your red speedo or the red biking shorts, this time. :lmao:

Oh sorry Connie I forgot your not supposed to get your heart rate up that high. Laughing will do that to ya.

Erica still has two more weeks of healing before she can go back to work. We think he did more than just bunions, since she has arches now that she didn't have before. HUMMMM, I mentioned she was a marathon racewalker so maybe he fixed her flat feet also.:confused3

My workout this morning was awesome. I walked 4.5 miles on the Hills at WKU which are the highest and steepest in town at an average pace of 12:45, the first mile was an easy warm up mile. I felt great at the end, then did my cals and stretching. Didn't do weights since I had 2 hours of mowing with the push mower ahead and that is basicy light walking pushing a weight, especially for my calves.

Then we had a good fish lunch and the new Narnia movie.

Tomorrow I'm planning to warm up first then do the walk I did today and see what pace I'm at now that is very comfortable. Unless it's pouring rain again.

Have a super evening y'all.

Hello, everyone!

Anne - welcome! And you DEFINITELY have my condolances! LOL! Teenage girls are just the worst! But, fortunately, they grow up and become quite wonderful, so hang in there! ;)

Connie - hope your allergies are subsiding!

Erica - glad to hear your feet are healing nicely!

Dave - I hope I didn't miss the pic of you in your Indiana Jones outfit!

Scott and Lynn - You guys are amazing! I can't imagine how you do all that and still work out!

Margie - good for you, working out with your grandson! Hopefully he'll grow up thinking exercise is the way to go!

Hello out there to you other teammates!

I have been putting in some extra hours (not like Scott, of course, but extra nevertheless) at work. I have been getting my workouts in for the most part, but just not much time to post.

You all make a great week!

HI all,

Able to sign in quickly because DH is working late and I had to come home to be with DD. I left her at home yesterday while at the town hall. Came home to find her "chatting" in the computer. Then this morning she's finishing homework on the way to school! :sad2: . So no unsupervised time at home for awhile and needless to say no cell and computer for a week. It's harder on me than her!

Yesterday I did 3 miles in 55 minutes - low and slow on the treadmill while it rained outside. Yesterday - rest day I guess. Really just no time.

Dave, I remember those WKU hills, They are some good ones. Do you live close to campus or do you drive over there?

Scott and Lynn and denise keep up the good work.

Lynn - I would love to have 80 degree weather. Summer just can't seem to arrive around here. We're hoping we don't have to get more oil while the prices are SOOOO sky high

BTW - I was reading through some of the other WISH threads - in particular the Marathon Thread and Lisa had written advise about counting steps.
So I counted by steps on the treadmill and was over 100 walking. Am I missing something?

Have a great week everyone!

Anne

Anne, I'm a racewalker and I train on the WKU hills a couple of days a week. I live about 5 miles from campus but I drive to the Total Fitness Health Club and walk from there and back. It's a 4.5 loop to the top of the hill where the Cherry statue is and back.

Kathy, I haven't taken any pics of the Indiana Jones outfit for the Halloween party.

Lynn is kicking but on the basement project, I would like to get teh room ready fr paint by the weekend. We will see.

This coming weekend is the BolderBoulder 10 K they say it is interesting, I guess worth doing once.

Have a great day 435 miles to drive to get home, Wyoming is a big state.

Good Morning Team!

Another nice day here, I will shortly be out walking the dogs, cannot wait too long or it will be too hot (weren't we just complaining about it being too cold???). Cool front moves in tomorrow night, and it will cool off a bit, which should be better for the race.

Yes, the Bolder Boulder looks very strange, the corral starts are staggered from 7am to 9:30am! Scott starts at 7:30, and I start at 8:23, he will be done the race before I even start! I guess it is a huge mass of people. We do like one of their promo shirts which says "Sea Level is for Sissies"

I got in a good walk with the dogs yesterday, then did the beginner "Pilates for Dummies" tape. I will try the intermediate one on Friday. It is much easier than the Stott Pilates I have been doing, but I could do this one every day, where the Stott Pilates I feel I can only do every other day at the most, I try for twice a week.

I did spend 4 hours in the basement sanding dry wall, almost finished, have about another hour to hour and a half to finish. If I can, I will finish today, but have an appt this afternoon, then will run errands.

Have a great day!
