Hello Herc's!
Just wanted to stop by and introduce myself. I am totally new to this and 51 years young. (Or since I started counting backwards when I reached 40, now I'm 29

). Anyway, I have been walking for exercise for years, and just last fall decided to give running a try. Gave up after a few days because my knees started to hurt. I thought they would get better after I stopped running outdoors, but I continued to walk/run on the TM. By Christmas my left knee was worse. Finally went to the doctor in Feb. and I have runner's knee. He told me to do absolutely no running. He suggested I work out with an elliptical, but that would require joining a gym. I may look into that in a few weeks.
Now, just days before the doctor's appt., a friend asked me if I would participate in the WDW half marathon with her. This really sounded like fun to me (I told her I was a wannabe runner)and I really wanted to try it. So I talked to a friend who is a runner and also a PT. She told me some exercises to do. I also got a second opinion from my chiropractor who specializes in ART (Active Release Therapy). He gave me another exercise and a stretch to do for my quads. I took a leap of faith and signed up for the race. I am currently reading MfM (on the recommendation of Lily) and am finding it very inspiring. The one thing that I worry about is that my running form may have somehow contributed to the injury. I'm sure that I'm not doing something right. My chiropractor said that there is another dr. in his practice who is very good at watching people run on the TM and figuring out things like that, so maybe when I can run again, she'll take a look at me.
Now, with all that being said, I did go out and walk today. I walked 3 miles in about 50 minutes. I tried to time it on my iPhone's timer, but something must have gotten bumped because it stopped at 27:35. I did check my time at the 1 mile mark and it was 17:30, so I know that I'm either going to have to get to where I can walk/run or pick up my walking pace.
Oh, and if PT counts, I did that for 20 minutes.
Sorry this was so long. I'm looking forward to getting to know you.
Mary
