TEAM DONALD--Biggest Loser 11 Spring Team Challenge

The fire is now up past 13 Thousand acres
I-95 Is closed at 3 exits and US 1 in that area is closed too. They even named the fire "the Ironhorse" Leave it to Florida to name a fire like a hurricane.

Outside is a smoky yellow haze and I am having trouble breathing.
I sound like a frog :) answering phones today should be fun!

I woke up very hungry and I am so tired of the same old breakfast. I grabbed one of my vans waffles and toasted it. Added a smear of peanut butter and sliced up 1/2 a banana on top.
DD had a waffle with light cream cheese and sliced strawberries on top- very nice!

So thinking about changing up breakfast from traditional to different to keep it from getting boring
The QOTD is what's your fun breakfast that may not be a traditional breakfast??

we all know eating breakfast is very important -I found this article that has some nice tips about breakfast
If you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it 937 times: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Why? You just spent eight hours with no food or water. You’re dehydrated, your blood sugar is low and you have little energy. And now it’s time to hurry the kids off to school before the eight-hour workday. More than any other point in the day, you need nourishment. Right now.

Besides, eating breakfast actually helps you lose weight. Those who skip the meal tend to snack before lunch and throughout the day, usually on unhealthy, high-calorie foods. Breakfast eaters typically cruise until lunch, while beaming with energy.

So what are some breakfast ideas? Scratch that--healthy and quick ideas? Here are some of our favorites:

Prepare a casserole the night before. Pop it in the microwave when you wake up and it will be ready to go when you are.

Incorporate complex carbohydrates, such as whole wheat toast and bagels. Spread peanut butter and raisins on top of either for added flavor.

Bake bran muffins early in the week, then grab one or two each morning. Or check out a local bakery for healthy varieties.

Make waffles Sunday morning and freeze the leftovers. You can pop ‘em in the toaster for a homemade breakfast. Also, grocery stores sell frozen whole grain selections.

Have you ever tried a tortilla for breakfast? Wrap up cold turkey and cheese, grab an apple and you’re on your way.

Whole-egg or egg white omelets with fresh or frozen veggies (carrots, broccoli, celery, peppers, onions and even black beans make great additions).

Make a shake or a smoothie. Blend fruit and yogurt and then drink it in the car. A side option is a small bag of finger foods, such as a mixture of granola and grapes.

Have an awesome day everyone!

I keep stressing to my DD is this is to be healthy- not to be skinny
I keep showing her good choices and my DH keeps saying oh 1 donut- cake, candy, cookies won't hurt her.. and lets her have it-and it's juts NOT 1 it's 2 or 3 too many times..
she is not fat- but chunky- she is overwight according to her Wii

We hit starring rolls on Sunday and I grabbed a banana and a yogurt- DH got a HUGE chocolate cakey thingy- I said to DD get a small treat or share with Daddy- nope :( he let her have a brownie that was at least 2 servings.
I can't fight with him in front of her :( I am :furious: with him and I am the bad guy for wanting her to be healthy.
Sorry I had to vent.. I 'm good now..

Tendonitis can come on quick- and be terribly painful- I hope it gets better soon.

Have a good night everyone.

First of all... sorry about the issues with DD and DH. It can be SO hard to help your children learn healthier habits when you have a constant battle with the other parent (or grandparents or other caretakers). Can you sit down with DH and calmly explain that you are fearing for her future health? Explain that food doesn't equal love... that he can show his love in other ways. Somehow you need to let him know that he isnt doing her any favors by allowing her to eat that way.... especially if her weight is already starting to become an issue.

Everytime that DS asks for something like McDonalds and I say NO, I always explain that I love him TOO MUCH to allow him to eat that kind of stuff on a regular basis. I remind him of something he ate recently that was a "treat" and that now is the time to eat healthier to make up for that treat. Or I allow him to have a burger, but not fries and soda.... just a burger and milk. I am trying hard to teach MODERATION. Sometimes it works.... sometimes it doesn't. But I keep on it.

Second of all... thanks for the comment about the tendonitis. I have no experience with it and was surprised that it could hit so suddenly. Hand is much improved today and I can actually use it fairly normally. Joint is still red and swollen and sore, but not nearly as much as it was over the weekend.

Good morning Team Donald.

Just a short post to say hello.

Busy with the show and missed some sleep last night. I spent over 2 hours taking a skirt apart to fix it last night. Took way too much time but it is important to one of the cast members.

I won't be back until tomorrow., I have school with state testting and then a full load of classes. Then a 2 hour exam meeting and then to the local high school to work on costumes.

Have ahappy and healthy day.

:hug:Just thinking of you with your crazy schedule and all this week. Hope it all goes well for you.

The QOTD is what's your fun breakfast that may not be a traditional breakfast??

Well.... if you look at my food journals you will see I am stuck between three different breakfasts..... toast and peanut butter (sometimes with banana), oatmeal (sometimes with fruit), and egg whites scrambled with veggies (sometimes in a tortilla).

But my most recent "fun" breakfast was about two weeks ago when I made myself a nice Mickey waffle..... Fiberone pancake mix, a few TB. of wheat bran, a bit of vanilla, nutmeg, and cinnamon.... topped with a bit of light syrup.... it was so good!

I've also made pancakes in the past with that same mix but added chopped cooked apple, raisins, walnuts, craisins, bananas (not all at the same time  ).... usually I have this on a weekend when I have the calories to splurge and the time to make it.

The problem with this "splurge" breakfast is that it isn't filling enough for the calories, so I usually end up starving by about 11 am..... but it is SO worth it for the treat!

Well... happy MARCH everyone! WOOHOO! That means that winter is FINALLY going to think about disappearing. Of course, for us up here in the Northeast, we still easily can have 4-6 more weeks of real winter.... but I always feel better when March is really here.

Kids are on school vacation this week and DH took today off. We are meeting some of his family in Nashua for lunch today. I believe the plan is for Ruby Tuesday's. I will stick with salad bar and seltzer. I will bring along my own dressing.... I just don't have the calories for a splurge today, after eating movie popcorn and a bit of candy on Saturday ( I used up all of my "splurge" calories on that!! :rolleyes1 ).

After lunch hopefully we will have time for a trip to Costco. I've held off on grocery shopping and the fruit/veggie bins are getting bare. We are down to 4 white potatoes, 1 red bell pepper, celery, two grapefruit, two beets, and a few grapes....... so I can't wait to stock up at Costco.

I hit the discount bread store yesterday while I was out with DD, so we are set with that for a while. Anyone else seen the new Arnold's Sandwich Thins NATURALS?? No aspartame!!! They are sweetened with stevia instead. I was THRILLED to find those. That was one thing I really didn't like about the Sandwich Thins and now I can avoid it! I bought 3 16-packs of the Naturals at the bread store yesterday.

Well.... time to hit the shower. TTYL......................P

Congrats TEAM DONALD! You won by .6 pounds! You also had 40 weigh ins compared to 30 by TEAM MICKEY!

I hope to get the results up later today! At work now and a bunch going on for me this afternoon and tonight so it may be tomorrow!

Morning Donalds! :goodvibes I'm so sleepy this morning even though I got 8 hours of sleep. I started a challenge for 30 Day Shred so working to do it 6 days a week this month plus 20-30 cardio most days. This is going to be interesting.

pudge,
We name the wild fires here in Arizona too. So weird but its not just Florida. ;)

 Woo hoo! Nice work team. Good thing I sent in my .6 lb loss this week...it put us just over the edge!

I hope you all have been having a great week since I last wrote. I have been so busy that I haven't even had time to read along, let alone comment. I keep hoping things will slow down a bit, but I have a feeling they are giong to get busier before the get slower :confused3

I haven't had the best 2 weeks as far as staing OP. I have been out of town the last 2 weekends which sort of derailed my healthy eating as well as disrupted my workout schedule. :headache: I am doing my best to get back to it this week though, so hopefully I will post more than a .6 lb loss.

This past weekend I got to go downhill skiing for a day which was a good time and a decent workout as well. It was only MN skiing, so it wasn't too vigorous, but my legs did feel tired yesterday so I know I must have worked them. :yay:

QOTD--I'm not good at making myself breakfast...I usually just have instant oatmeal. But one fun breakfast that I absolutely love is the Chicken-apple sausage daybreaker from Caribou Coffee. I don't know if many of you have Caribou Coffee stores where you are, but if you do, I highly recommend the sandwich...it has 320 calories and IMHO, is the best breakfast sandwich ever!

Have a great day! I will try to sign on at least a few times this week!

:wave2: Staying home and trying to get stuff done today. I got my recipe binder totally reorganized last night. I want to get our recipes from cookbooks copied and into the binder so it is all in one easy place.

Need to pack up for my scrapbooking weekend because the rest of my week is crazy and that would be one big thing off my list.

She said possibly tendonitis.... probably no infection, just inflammation. She gave me a Rx for an anti-inflammatory, but I'm not going to take it just yet. The hand is SO much better today than it was on Saturday.... without doing anything. So I think I'll wait another 24 hours before possibly taking the meds.

It just seems so bizarre.... that I can go to bed with an absolutely normal hand and wake up with pain, swelling, redness, heat that gets progressively worse for at least 16 hours... without any trauma or injury.

I'll give it another 24-48 hours before I decide whether or not I really believe her diagnosis.....;)
Do you know how you would have gotten it? Hopefully not a heinous Scrapbooking injury! :rotfl2: I actually lost feeling in the tip of my finger for several months after doing some very intricate cutting with small scissors to make embellishments . I was afraid it might never recover but eventually it did. The sad part is that the page didn't even turn out all that great after I did all that!:rotfl:

Well my GF's want to plan a girls night out and I feel horrible they asked me where i wanted to go eat and I'm afraid to eat out right now :scared1: I'm stuck at 180-181 all week and I really want to dip into the 70's this week and I feel a meal out w/ temptations will just blow that. Plus it's Wednesday so I know it will show on the scale Thur/Fri. I know it's 1 meal out but it still stresses me out since I feel I've gotten really focused lately. I'll need to research some online menues. :goodvibes

Are you concerned about finding good choices or about giving in to temptations? If it is just finding the right meal keep in mind that you can always special order something- I am a picky eater so I am the queen of special orders like Sally from When Harry Met Sally. Order that cheese and cream sauce covered grilled chicken breast plain. Get the veggies instead of a potato or fries. Order a salad (dressing on the side) and ask for grilled chicken instead of the breaded and fried chicken. Get a sandwich and ask for mayo on the side. Get a sandwich and eat the meat and veggies in it with a knife and fork forgoing the bread. Ruby Tuesday does have some great options for meals and sides.

If temptation is your problem then make a decision before you go as to what your "splurge" will be and stick with it. Maybe order a dessert TO GO so they bring it already in a to go box. Eat a few bites then close the top so it is out of sight. Offer to be the designated driver if alcoholic drinks are a temptation.

And actually I find the best way to deal with this is to eat before I go out. Make a big batch of filling veggie soup and enjoy that before you go out. Have a full on program meal right before you leave. You will be way too full to eat! This is really more of a social occasion. Order a side salad when you get there or a meal to nibble on and take the rest home. Make sure you talk so much that you don't have time to eat!

Those sound yummy! I am not sure that I have anything fun and/or non traditional. If I know I need something to hold me for a while I will have a PB&J on toast, or with 2 waffles.

Right now I am usually having Oatmeal or yogurt or eggs and bacon. This morning I had grits with some cheese and bacon stirred in-- very filling.

If I sleep late or am having a bad morning it will sometimes be late morning before I can eat so I will have coffee when I get up then just have an early lunch or sort of a half lunch with another half a few hours later.

I have been craving pancakes the last few weeks but been resisting. I actually don't have a problem eating just one but DH likes to eat a big stack of them and I don't want to sabotage him.

That fire sounds awful! Is there any rain in sight?

Congrats TEAM DONALD! You won by .6 pounds! You also had 40 weigh ins compared to 30 by TEAM MICKEY!

YUM Pancakes

That fire sounds awful! Is there any rain in sight?
we had rain this a.m. BUT it wasn't much- now the wind is shifintg and hopefully the smoke is going way from us. it is very bad and now homes are being threatened.
everything is a copper haze - very strange looking. at least 95 and US 1 are re-opened for now.

I was fussing about not getting a good walk in today :( then I went to the office kitchen to grab a water.. Hmm LONG - Verrryyyy Looonnnggg hallway.
so I counted steps. it takes me 45 steps to walk down the hallway and 45 back.
I am alone here after 1:00 p.m. anyway and I have a cordless phone.. looks as if I have found a way to get in some walking ! of course I am only 4 ft 10" so my steps are kind short steps but it works for me! Guess I will bring sneakers tomorrow, take my lunch at 1 and walk :)

Howdy! I am going to compile WIN results this evening. If you still want to submit your number for the 2/25 "measure-in", please do! :thumbsup2

I was afraid it might never recover but eventually it did. The sad part is that the page didn't even turn out all that great after I did all that!:rotfl:

Not a clue how I might have done it. The doctor was asking if I had been doing a lot of shoveling but when I said no and tried to mention that I had been doing a lot of scrapping, she definitely poo-pooed me and kind of brushed me off at that point. :headache:

I think if it is activity related, it is definitely a scrapping injury! I did 108 pages in February!

Right now I am usually having Oatmeal or yogurt or eggs and bacon. This morning I had grits with some cheese and bacon stirred in-- very filling.

Love grits! Haven't had them in a while, so I guess I didn't mention them. I go between liking them sweet and wanting a bit of syrup on them, and wanting them salty!

Evening friends! Lunch out at Ruby Tuesday's was a total success! I brought along my own salad dressing, premeasured into a small container and I didn't even use it all. I had plenty of greens and "free" veggies, plus some chick peas, sundried tomatoes, corn/black bean salsa, peas, edamame.... I avoided the chopped egg, all the cheeses, and the pasta salads. I figured, overall, my lunch out cost me about 3 points!! That left me enough points to share a soft serve at Costco with DD! And DSIL (all three of them) picked up the tab for lunch!! Can't beat that! Plus it was nice to see them all, plus DMIL. I really love the family I married in to..... I consider myself very lucky.

Lots of fresh fruits and veggies in the house now that we made our Costco stop. Broccoli, asparagus, peppers, cukes, spring mix, spinach, pineapple, melon, strawberries.... plus sundried tomatoes, two jars of roasted red peppers and of course, Nutella for DD. DH and DS had burgers for lunch, so I'm not worrying about making them a big dinner. I"m cooking some broccoli for DS and I (he actually really loves broccoli) and will cook some frozen salmon burgers later if anyone is hungry.

I did some calesthenics this morning that I haven't done in a while.... jumping jacks, squats, punches, high knees, lunges, etc... 100 of each. I totally bailed on push-ups though. But it was nice for a change.... and DH was still sleeping, so the TM was off limits. I might try some weight-lifting during BL tonight, if my hand can handle it.

Well.... I've gotta to check on the gals on the scrapping board! TTYL..........P

I hit the discount bread store yesterday while I was out with DD, so we are set with that for a while. Anyone else seen the new Arnold's Sandwich Thins NATURALS?? No aspartame!!! Well.... time to hit the shower. TTYL......................P

YES!!! The whole wheat with flax and fiber are awesome!! I also found the Arnold thins Fill Em's they are sooooo good!! I have to be careful that I don't eat the whole bag. :rolleyes1

So I ran/walked a mile in 16:03 today!!! :woohoo:
I didn't do C25K, I didn't have time today because DD had a dentist appt. But I did have time to run for 16 minutes! I'm so stoked.
I've got to get back on track for C25K, I'm really worried I'm not ready for Everest. I hope I didn't make a mistake by signing up.

I've fallen off the wagon food wise and it ran me over a few times! LOL I need to get back on track. I am just so sick of food and having to think about and overanalyze every bite.

Sorry, I will get to results later tonight or first thing in the morning! Been a busy day!

Off to get ready for my Tuesday night elliptical trek during BL! Anyone interested in joining me? Post when you're done!!!!

AWESOME!

Before the weekly superstar list comes the disclaimer. I am human and I make mistakes. If you have any questions please contact me. For your reference this is the magic percentage of weight lost formula - weight loss for the week divided by weight for last week times 100, that gives us the percentage. Now let me test that with my numbers for week 1, click, click, click goes the calculator. Yes, that agrees with the percentage on the magic spreadsheet. (btw if its been more than 1 week between weigh-ins, then the % loss is divided by the number of weeks, to keep everybody on the same basis)

Now let's get to the good stuff. Who were our superstars of the week? This time I’ve done a TOP 10 LIST ! That criteria may change from week to week. I figured out what I'm doing wrong! The shampoo I use in the shower that runs down my body says "For extra volume and body". I'm going to start using "Dawn" dish soap. It says " Dissolves fat that is otherwise difficult to remove". Dieting and exercise-- what a waste!

Good evening Team Donald!!

I am back from WDW, and pretty exhausted. I thought I'd take it easy except for the princess, but that is hard to do there. It was truly an amazing experience, and it was so fun to meet Lisa and so many other wishers. This is truly a group of wonderful ladies.

My laptop won't let me online, so I'm on my very slow desktop right now, and I'm hoping this lasts til I can get the laptop checked out.

I'll be back later to give more details about the race, and to post some pics for you all. I ate and drank way more than I burned in my 13.1 miles, but am not going to step on the scale til friday, but I am going to get back on track tomorrow and start journalling my food again, and work on getting into Onederland.

Congrats to all the biggest losers this week, and the whole team for beating Mickye!!

Good Wednesday morning Team Donald

Long Day yesterday and today is not as bad as yesterday. I don't have the meeting in the afternoon but a few kids are coming to make up some tests.

Thanks Pam for the new info on those thins. I love them and glad they made them better.

B&B congrats on a 16 minute mile. That is awesome.

pudge the fish thanks for the questions and the articles this week.

Hi to everyone I missed.

Have to go and shower and get dressed.

Have a happy and healthy day.

Good Morning Team Donald!
I have been waking up at 4:45 each day to get DH off to work- And I have been waking up HUNGRY- like tummy growling hungry. I need to re-think my snacks

So the QOTD is a 2 part Question:
1.Do you add snacks into your day
2. Share your favorite snack/snack recipe

here is some great snack info:
But some snacks are better than others: the best snack to eat is one that’s low in calories, high in nutrition and keeps you full longer. The worst is one that’s high in calories, low in nutritional value and leaves you hungry for more.

Of all the possible snack foods out there, popcorn stands out as number 1. Now, popcorn’s gotten a bad rep from the movie-theater variety—loaded with saturated fat and calories thanks to the ginormous portion sizes and “buttery” topping.

But the crunchy kernels hidden beneath are actually a health food. Here’s why:

1.It’s a whole grain. The term “whole grain” may bring to mind loaves of bread flecked with bran or a bowl of oatmeal, but popcorn also counts. In fact, popcorn eaters get 250% more whole grains in their diet than people who don’t eat popcorn. And like other whole grains, crunchy popcorn is high in fiber (women need 25 grams and men need 38 grams in their diets daily).

2.Not only is popcorn high in fiber, but it’s also low in fat and delivers some protein. A 1-ounce serving (about 3½ cups) has 4 grams of fiber, almost 4 grams of protein, just over 1 gram of fat and clocks in at 110 calories. This combination makes it a snack with staying power.

3.Popcorn has antioxidants. Yes, it surprised me, too, but popcorn is chock-full of polyphenols, the same compounds found in berries and tea that are linked to heart health and a lowered cancer risk.

So now that you know what to reach for at snack time, what should you steer clear of? Flavored chips—anything from BBQ potato chips to Doritos Cool Ranch. Why are flavored chips the bad boys of the snack world?

1.They’re higher in calories, fat and sodium, with very little fiber. Plus you’ll get a lot of unnecessary additives like artificial flavors and colors.

2.Because you can’t eat just one. The combination of salt, sugar and fat is addictive and makes our brain want more…and more and more. And even though flavored chips might not seem like they have way more calories than popcorn (many brands are about 150 calories per ounce), an ounce of chips is so much smaller than an ounce of popcorn (it’s about 12–20 chips, depending on the brand). Most snack-size bags have 2–3 ounces, bringing the calorie count way up.

3.They’re not going to satisfy you. Either you’ll wolf down several servings and then feel slightly sick or, if you’re one of those people with extreme willpower, you’ll still be hungry after a serving.

Hey I'm in charge here and I get paid nothin' to do this so you better take what you can get! (and if there’s something you want to know, just ask me!)

Thanks to ohMom-Molli for these clippies. They were used for a previous BL but we can recycle. Don't they look great!

I have removed some parts of the results as I'm feeling overwhelmed and with people coming and going it's hard to keep track. I've left in the most important parts.

I will post the % to goal results later!!!

TTFN :tigger:

Wow - thanks. I joined the gym 2 weeks ago and I guess it is working. At this point, I have started off slowly. I basically walking for about 35 minutes, but about every 5 minutes I put up the speed and run for a couple minutes.

Hope everybody is having a good week. Keep moving forward. :)

So the QOTD is a 2 part Question:
1.Do you add snacks into your day
2. Share your favorite snack/snack recipe

Thank pudge for another great article!

I do like popcorn as a snack. Some other things I snack on are veggies dipped in hummus, nature valley granola bars (especially on the run because they are easy to carry), a rice cake w/a TBSP of peanut butter, a piece of fruit, a pice of cheese or a string cheese or babybell.

I usually reach for a snack mid afternoon, right around the time the kids get home from school.
