TEAM DONALD--Biggest Loser 11 Spring Team Challenge

Forgot QOTD

today is a new day only because I didn't eat yesterday. I've done pretty well today, I could have lived without the banana bread from Starbucks but I'm so sick of oatmeal!

Hi all just wanted to check in!

I'm sorry to report I did not lose any lbs last week, my second week in the BL challenged, but I am determined to lose this week! I also did not gain so that's good I suppose.

For the QOTD I see this as a new day since I didn't lose anything last week and I had a few treats during the game yesterday!

A question for anyone who has the answer....If I wanted to go low fat what is a good amount of fat grams to stay under each day? 10? 20? I really have no idea but would like to know. TIA!

Also, as you know I got a a Bob Harper kettle bell with DVD on Sat. I just tried it out today for the first time and HOLY COW is it a challenge, well for me at least! The dvd workout that came with it was a 30 min workout and it is intense. I got the 10lb bell to start and I am glad I did not go higher. I couldn't even do some of the moves but I will get there and my quads are killing me! Can't wait til I am good enough to complete the entire work out!

Oh and can I just say that the Doritos Pug commercial last night during the Super Bowl was the BEST COMMERCIAL EVER!!!!!! :thumbsup2

:wave2: I am exhausted. I got up early this morning and got showered and dressed planning to hit Wallyworld as soon as DD got to school. I was drinking my coffee and doing my leisurely morning email/DIS/FB checking when I got a call to sub at her school. I have not been able to work all year because she has been sick a lot and they never seem to call on a day I can go. I decided what the heck and had 20 minutes to change my clothes, get breakfast, lunch and snacks together and get out of the house. I like subing at her school because it is familiar. I know the teachers and the layout and I also know a lot of the kids. Had great day in first grade but my feet are not happy with me. I can't sit still when I teach. I have to be up and moving around the room and that is still difficult for me. But I probably walked more steps today than I have in a year! For me that is good exercise. The teacher is supposed to be out again tomorrow so maybe I will get to go back. Flu is hitting here big bad so maybe things will get busy for me. I was also relieved because I got a call from the Subbing Supervisor that I had to work at least ONE day this school year or they would terminate me. Now I have that done so I can stop worrying about it.

I plan to be able to work a lot more next year. Our schools have funky schedules and all start at different times. The majority of the elementary schools start around 8:15 or 8:30 but our school doesn't start until 9. This makes it hard to do because DD doesn't leave for the bus until 8:40. Next year she will start at 8am so I can get to more schools and my older dd will be home when she gets home and can babysit until I get there.

My wonderful husband who also worked a long hard day (with adults that act like first graders he tells me!) went to the store and is making dinner. Frankly if I had to do it we would be having Dominos Pizza or grilled cheese-- neither good choices on a low carb plan!

Question of the Day
It is Monday morning. Did you stay on track over the weekend or is today a NEW DAY?
I did do a good job of staying on track. Weekends are definitely harder because the break in my routine just makes things more difficult but we are really working hard to make healthy choices all the time.

But, every day is a new day! A fresh new page in my journal waiting for me to write in it and each day brings its own challenges and obstacles that have to faced.
I know I've said this to someone here before, but it bears repeating. If you are "stuck", then now might be a good time to make a NEW beginning.

Try to re-invigorate that motivation you had back when you began this journey. Remember that feeling?? You (probably) started with frustration about your weight or had a health issue. Then you were feeling INSPIRED and MOTIVATED to lose the weight and get healthier. You were ready to start on a new plan! You were (hopefully) excited about the prospect of losing weight, getting healthier, starting a new exercise plan. You had determination. Those are the feelings you need to revisit.
:thumbsup2 Great Advice!

Everyone have a great night! :cheer2:

My daughter learned the meaning of fatal this afternoon and I got an extra workout consisting of a 30 minute very brisk walk to catch her bus at the previous stop. The road was closed and he could not get through due to a fatal roll over. The bus driver had finally got the police to allow him to go to the previous stop but I saw him pulling up and started walking down. Zoe had heard the cop tell him their were bodies on the ground. So sad. As we were walking back I'm quite sure one of the families had just arrived. I could see the pain and worry on her face as she frantically got a stroller out of the back and went to the back seat to retrieve a little one. I teared up seeing her. :sad1: The accident I take it happened this morning it was really bad for them to still be out with the road blocked at 3:45 pm. Still blocked now at 5:30.

So I'm making my hot wings tonight since I'm at a net calories for the day of 90 with all the exercise I've done so far. Cool to think that I've burned almost as many calories as I've ate so far. My right shin hurts pretty badly from that fast walk. This is a reminder on why I am waiting to start a C25K program. This weight is just a lot on my body. On a side note I didn't really get out of breath that much during the whole walk.

Dinner is chicken, cauliflower, carrots and broccoli mix veggies and baked potato. I will probably warm up the baked beans we have left over and have some of those too. I'm excited to have some hot wings tonight. I wanted them yesterday when people on FB were talking about hot wings. The wings are baking just gotta get the sauce and butter melting in the crock.

Zoe is outside planting some seeds. I think I may have her start her cucumbers back up and try to keep them living long this year. I may pick up tomato seeds too.

Biggest Loser 11 Spring Challenge Week 5 Team Donald!
This week’s group loss is 24.1 lbs.
Average percentage of weight lost .22 %
Total group weight loss so far 413 pounds!

AWESOME!

Before the weekly superstar list comes the disclaimer. I am human and I make mistakes. If you have any questions please contact me. For your reference this is the magic percentage of weight lost formula - weight loss for the week divided by weight for last week times 100, that gives us the percentage. Now let me test that with my numbers for week 1, click, click, click goes the calculator. Yes, that agrees with the percentage on the magic spreadsheet. (btw if its been more than 1 week between weigh-ins, then the % loss is divided by the number of weeks, to keep everybody on the same basis)

Now let's get to the good stuff. Who were our superstars of the week? This time I’ve done a TOP 10 LIST ! That criteria may change from week to week. Hey I'm in charge here and I get paid nothin' to do this so you better take what you can get! (and if there’s something you want to know, just ask me!)

Congrats to our overall BIGGEST LOSER- TGGRRSTARR with 2.35% loss this week!

Mickey also lost 42.5 pounds this week compared to Donald's 24.1 pounds.

Mickey had an average loss of .45 pounds compared to Donald's .22 pounds.

Donald's overall lead has been cut to 1.8 pounds.
Donald has lost 413 total pounds and Mickey has lost 411.2 pounds.

Grand total lost is 824.2 pounds!!!!!

Let's try to reach 900 pounds next week!

To those struggling, DON'T GIVE UP! We all have good weeks and bad weeks! It took me 5 weeks to get below where I started on January 1st! It's a struggle for everyone and if you keep coming here you will succeed! It's all about learning and sharing. It takes work and if you are willing to work HARD good things will happen!

Have a good night everyone! I may not be on much tomorrow.

Also, FYI- I will not be home most of the day Saturday and Sunday. I will make sure that I have emptied my inbox before I leave on Saturday and let you know when I'm back on Sunday. If my box should fill up while I'm gone, try again on Sunday night as I will get on as soon as possible when I get back.

TTFN :tigger:

Ouch! I just did 30 Day Shred for hte first time and let me just say, I totally get the "hate jillian and her happy little friends" comment I read a couple of weeks ago.

I'm very proud to see myself on the top 10 list! My eating for the past 3 days has been just ok, I think because I didn't journal. I picked up 30DS yesterday and I put it on. Honestly, I put it on thinking, it will be hard but I go to the gym on a fairly regular basis, it won't be that bad on level 1. Boy was I wrong! First, I am so bad at push ups and that's what it started with. I took one break for about 2 seconds during the second have of the cardio on the first circuit. I got to the second circuit and I was thinking I wouldn't make it. I took two, 2-3 second breaks. I couldn't stop noticing that the girls were were smiling through. I couldn't believe how sweaty I was and there they were super happy and smiley. Sooooo annoying! The 3rd circuit, I was so determined and it felt a little easier. I got through it but now that I'm done, my body is so shakey! I am planning to do this about 4 days a week in addition to about 3 days per week at the gym. I'll journal tomorrow which will get me back on track with eating.

I haven't done it in awhile but when I did I always felt stronger towards the end. I had trouble doing the jumping jacks at the beginning but was flying the last circuit! Maybe I'll try that again! I'm trying to put more variety in my workout. Been doing Leslie Sansone workouts again and I love the BL Power Walk and Bob's Strength workout which I loaned to a friend!

Congrats to all the biggest losers this week, esp Bernard & Miss Bianca!!! I'm going to make it onto that list one of these weeks!!!

2400 calories sounds awfully high to me.

I would definitely journal and measure. I've found that once you stop measuring stuff creeps back up.
But it sounds as though you've hit a plateau. What do you typically do for exercise?

I do one of the following every day:
40 minutes elliptical
one hour yoga
exercise video, either WATP or 30 DS
jogging 30-35 minutes

very rarely, I will do 2 of these.....last week I did elliptical & yoga on 2 days

I also walk a great deal since we only have one car here. We live on the 3rd floor of our bldg so I am up and down stairs alot. If I am doing laundry in the basement it's 4 flights of stairs and I have to carry home lots of packages, groceries, etc. since no car.

I can SO relate to this! I hit a few plateaus while I was still in a significant "losing" mode.... but since I've gotten to within 10 pounds of my goal, I can't seem to get there or stay there! During the spring/summer I was exercising upwards to 90+ minutes a day, 3-5 days a week... and I STILL never hit my goal (welll... my NEW goal :rolleyes1).

I know as a "former fat person" I will NEVER be able to eat like a similarly sized person who had never been overweight (scientifically proven).... but there are times when I can't believe I can have SO LITTLE to eat everyday for the rest of my life. It gets really frustrating. But honestly.... just about the time I think I'm about to give up, I remember how frustrating it was to be FAT! It was frustrating and unpleasant and hard and depressing. So I find a way to soldier on in this healthy journey.

I know I've said this to someone here before, but it bears repeating. If you are "stuck", then now might be a good time to make a NEW beginning. Sure, you never really "ended", but sometimes we need to get back to basics. Re-read some literature about losing weight (re-read your SB book if that is the plan you follow, re-read your WW literature if you are following WW.... you get the idea). Start a fresh journal (or at least a fresh page). Start weighing and measuring ALL of your portions again. EVERYTHING. Every spoonful of salad dressing, every piece of meat, every slice of cheese, every glass of milk. Keep a check list to be sure you are getting all of your water in every day.

I'm not saying you've lost your motivation or anything like that. But sometimes we need to get "re-excited" about our healthy journey. Find some new recipes or try some new foods. Check out a new kind of exercise!

Another thing to try to shake up your plateau is to try really varying your calories.... if your norm is say 1500 per day, try having 1200 today and maybe 1800 tomorrow and then 1500 the next. Keep your body guessing. That is supposed to keep your metabolism fired up.

I've been meaning to do some reading about keeping an active metabolism and metabolism boosting, but honestly I haven't had the time lately. If I get to it and I find anything significant, I'll be sure to post it here to share.

Anyhow...... ............................P

Thanks so much Pamela, very good advice. The bolded part is very depressing for me, it's so hard to think I did this to myself. If only I had been more careful and watched the weight closer years ago. Now I know that I could have done many little things to atleast just maintain my weight way back when. But, I'm not going to let that hold me back....all I can do is keep trying today!

Shawn, so sorry that you feel discouraged. I think your idea of journalling is a good one.

You might want to try this calculator for your BMR (basal metabolic rate). http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/ to double check what you found online.

Your basal metabolic rate is the calories that you burn just by being alive, i.e. you are lying in bed all day doing nothing. Your total daily calorie needs are calculated by taking your BMR and multiplying it by the factor in the Harris Benedict Formula

Harris Benedict Formula
To determine your total daily calorie needs, multiply your BMR by the appropriate activity factor, as follows:

•If you are sedentary (little or no exercise) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.2
•If you are lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.375
•If you are moderatetely active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.55
•If you are very active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.725
•If you are extra active (very hard exercise/sports & physical job or 2x training) : Calorie-Calculation = BMR x 1.9

Once you know the number of calories needed to maintain your weight, you can easily calculate the number of calories you need to eat in order to lose weight. A 500 calorie per day deficit would give you a one pound per day loss. That is realistic and doable over the long term. Remember that your body is very good at adapting itself so that what worked before may not work always. You have to trick it! ;)

Thanks Lisa:hippie: That calculator shows I can eat 2450 calories per day and maintain my weight (I used moderately active since I exercise every day). So in theory, I should still be able to eat 1950 calories per day and lose one pound per week. I don't think I eat more than around 1600 calories per day so what's going on:confused3 Well, I need to journal and track to be sure, try new foods and new exercise and try the high/low calories to mix it up. {sigh} I don't want to work this hard at it but like Pamela said I don't like being fat either:rotfl2:

Had great day in first grade but my feet are not happy with me.
:scared1::scared1: FIRST GRADERS!!! yikes

good for you getting all those steps in !

I picked up 30DS yesterday and I put it on. Honestly, I put it on thinking, it will be hard but I go to the gym on a fairly regular basis, it won't be that bad on level 1. Boy was I wrong! so shakey!

This makes me feel alot better! I don't go to the gym and I'm almost 50 years old and this video about killed me!

Melissa: So sorry to hear about the fatal wreck and hope you were able to answer all of Zoe's questions and make her feel OK.

Not too much on the calendar for me today. I do have the car today:cool1: so I will do a major grocery shop. I may even go to 2 shops today. Then I just have to take DS to scouts tonight and that's it. Well, plus exercise, cooking, cleaning, laundry and all the usuals:laughing: I finally got up my nerve to answer back to the principal's email where he told me my son had participated in an act of vandalism. I told him that DS would accept the punishment but told him that this should NOT be called vandalism. To my surprise he wrote back very promptly last night and said he agreed with me and he should have worded the email differently! I am so relieved!

Have a great day Donalds!

Shawnprincess:

Good Tuesday morning Team Donald.

I have one more marathon day for me and I can breath easier.

Yesterday was school and a math meet. It was a home meet so I had a lot more to do than normal. I like our home meet since I give the kids and ice cream party and they get to eat in the teacher's cafeteria. we didn't do great but the kids had fun and really did a great job cleaning up after the meet so it was worth it.

Today I have school and then at 4 I am scheduled to be at McDonald's for a fundraiser and then a meeting about costumes at the local high school. Besides that grades are due and I am giving a national math contest. Boy that makes me tired just thinking about it. The rest of the week is pretty calm.

Congrats B&B on being the top loser this week.

lTS glad you were able to get back to work yesterday. First graders will wear anyone out.

Setting Sail hope you have a nice day shopping.

dreamer24 that workout sounds pretty intense.

To everyone else Hi!

Question of the Day

I am going to steal this one from Team Mickey from yesterday

What is your favorite ride at DW? If you can't pick one then try to pick one from each park.

I will be back later tonight to answer it.

Have a happy and healthy day.

Good morning TEAM DONALD!

Congratulations to all our superstars this week (I am so happy to see my name on the list too! :yay:) and especially to our biggest loser this week, Buffy! :woohoo:

And a big congratulations to everyone who is still sticking with this challenge, through the good times and the bad! :thumbsup2 Little losses over time add up to big numbers for the challenge.

Melissa, sorry that there was a bad accident near your house. I'm glad that your daughter is safe.:flower3:

Ouch! I just did 30 Day Shred for hte first time and let me just say, I totally get the "hate jillian and her happy little friends" comment I read a couple of weeks ago.

:lmao: I totally know what you mean -- sometimes Leslie Sansone and her perkiness get on my nerves, too! :rotfl2:

OMG!!!!! I am shocked!!! Holy guacamole (low fat of course, LOL) !!!

WOOHOO!!!!!!

Woo hoo, Buffy! :woohoo: Way to go being the BL for the week and getting ready to run the Everest Challenge with your DS soon! :yay:

But, I'm not going to let that hold me back....all I can do is keep trying today!

Thanks Lisa:hippie: That calculator shows I can eat 2450 calories per day and maintain my weight (I used moderately active since I exercise every day)., Shawn. With all that activity maybe you do need to increase your calories. Your body could be holding on to the weight. I think Pamela's suggestion of mixing up your calories is a great one. Eat 1950 calories a few days a week, a couple of 1800 calories days and maybe a 1600 or 1700 calorie day, too. Mix them up and keep your body guessing. In the fall when I was working out with the trainer she increase me calories and it did make a difference to me -- who knew? :confused3 Plus I think it is a lot easier to be with this for the long haul when it is something that you can live with -- even if the weight loss is slower than you would like! :flower3:

I'm at 45 pounds lost and it's taken two years. Would I like to be closer to my goal weight -- you betcha! But every year that I weigh less at the end than more is a big accomplishment for me, especially compared to the years before. :goodvibes

Wow, dona, it makes me tired just reading about your week! :flower3:

Hmm, don't think I can pick just one ride. Epcot: Spaceship Earth, Animal Kingdom: Expedition Everest, MK: TTA, DHS: Rock n' Roller Coaster.

Have a great day, DONALDS! :donald:

Question of the Day

I am going to steal this one from Team Mickey from yesterday

What is your favorite ride at DW? If you can't pick one then try to pick one from each park.

Ohhhh Fun Question!!! At MK my favorite rides are the Haunted Mansion & Pirates of the Caribbean. Hard to choose one between them!

At Epcot, Test Track

At AK, Kali River Rapids

At HS, Toy Story Mania, though we have only been to that park once. Overall it is not our favorite park to visit.

Feeling a bit crummy today. Definately have a cold. Took Nyquil last night & woke up feeling drugged. Have to wake up & function.

Congrats to the BL, Bernard & Miss Bianca!!

Everyone have a great day!

Question of the Day

It is Monday morning. Did you stay on track over the weekend or is today a NEW DAY?
Sunday was my new day, after a bad saturday. I am back on track day 2 down, and now am 14 days away from wdw!!

Did you mean 12 MILES?? Anyhow, WTG on your longest run/walk! I'm sure you will do GREAT at the Princess!!

...P
I did mean miles. Guess I was dreaming about losing 12 pounds. Wouldn't that be great, lose a pound for every mile.:rotfl2: Thanks Pamela. Yesterday was a good day, and there were some cookies at work someone baked, and I didn't even want to have one.

On the buying the stuff and bringing it into the house, advice you gave Julie, I can so relate, and know I shouldn't buy it, and still do. Not as much as I used to, but still I have inside of me that food is comfort, and a treat for a job well done, and I do try to change that thinking, but it is hard. At the grocery store the other night, ds was with me, and I almost pointed to the chips and asked if he wanted to get some, but caught myself and he walked right by them. It is definitely more me, and if it's not in the house, he wouldn't want it. He loves fresh fruit, and as a treat he picked out some cups of cut up fruit in juice from the produce dept. I want him to be healthier and more active than I was growing up, and he is already so much moreso than I was, but he's a kid, and especially this winter there's been way too much tv in our house.

Julie:hug:Sorry you're having a tough time. It's tough, old habits die hard, but every little change we make does make a difference.

Soaring, Splash Mountain, Toy Story Mania, and Everest!! I couldn't pick just one.;) One of my most favorite things to do is the Animation Studios drawing class in DHS. So fun to look back on all our drawings we've done over the past trips.

Thanks Dona for coaching this week. Hope everything is ok with MickeySP.

Buffy:cool1::banana: YAY!!!! That biggest loser clippie looks soooo good on you!! So happy for you!! Keep up the great work!!

:banana:Congrats to all our top losers and all of us here still plugging away!!

Shawn- Hang in there. I definitely think mixing up the amounts of calories each day can make a difference with the metabolism. Are you getting enough calories every day? If both of the calculators show you need more to maintain, maybe your body needs a little more to keep the metabolism up and lose. I wish I had better suggestions. You are trying so hard, and doing all the right things and the scale isn't giving you the reward you deserve, but try to look at the non scale victories you've accomplished. I bet you felt a lot better out on those hikes than you would have 25 pounds ago. I know it's frustrating, but it is also a lifestyle, and not gaining is a good thing too. You are doing so well with the exercise. Maybe a bigger breakfast in the morning to get the metabolism going. I've also heard 6 small meals a day, and eating at least every 3 hours. hang in there.

Melissa- So sorry about the accident and having to tell dd. It's something that is so upsetting to adults, it's tough to explain to little ones, you hate to see them get upset and come to the realization that if it happened to them, it could happen to me. Hope dd is doing ok.

Hello to everyone else.

Tracey- thank you for being our weightkeeper and doing all the calculations. It looks like we won't have a snow day this week. Oh my, what will I do with myself. ;) Is coco key this weekend? I'd love to go, but with the extra days off for snow days, it's not in the budget right now. Have fun.

Have a great day everyone.:)

Mikamah- yes, kathy it's Saturday and Sunday. I know we're having dinner at the hotel on Saturday night. I believe there are some people just coming for that. Check out the thread on the podcast threads. Maybe you and Michael can join us for dinner!

popping back in to say hey.

I sent DH a copy of the list for the top ten, he was stoked!! Looks like he's gonna get his hot legged wife back, cause I did really have hot legs when we got married. LOL
Can you believe I'm looking forward to this weeks weigh in. I think I'm turning unto a fitness freak! LOL

I got through week 2/day 1 on C25K. It was uuugly but I did it. I am definitely still feeling the effects of being sick. I will most likely do week 2 again. DH came down to see me run, that was weird, I'm not a big fan of people watching me work out. LOL But talking to him while doing my last run got me through it because I so wanted to stop!

I think I need to buy a new treadmill though, I've had this one for about 14 years so it's time. the belt is starting to separate at the seam on the underside. I'm going to call pro-form and see if I can get the belt replaced or if I should just get a new one.

I also picked up Bob Harper's kettle bell and DVD today.
Does anyone else have that one? I got the 7 pound because while I could lift the 10 pound I thought it might be to much to start.

And a question about Shred? I heard someone say you had to do push ups and what not. Are their vocal cues? My TV is up above the fireplace and when you are down on the floor doing push ups I can't see the TV.

Sorry I'm rambling!!! OK time to hit the shower and do my household chores. See y'all later!!

Yes! I got mine on Saturday. I got the ten lb bell. I just tried it out yesterday for the first time. Check out my post on the previous page, my quads are killing me today, you will see what I mean when you start doing swings! I am going to have to take today off for any leg stuff.
