TEAM DONALD--Biggest Loser 11 Spring Team Challenge

Hi Everyone, I am your new teammate. I need to focus on lossing weight. I gained 25 pounds in the last 14 months. I want to take the weight off for health reasons, to feel better about myself, and to run a marathon at my full potential.

Yes I am a runner and have had a goal to qualify for the Boston Marathon for the last 5-6 years now. Lots of ups and downs along the way.

I live in Rock Hill, South Carolina. That is just across the line from Charlotte, NC. We are only an eight hour drive from WDW :)

Looking forward to getting to know everyone!!!

David

I just put on size 16 jeans that I haven't worn since I had DD. And I did NOT have to lay down to zip them up or unzip them to sit down to type this!!!

Hey friend! I've been wanting to tell you how much I love your new signature pictures! Your DS is adorable!
Thanks.:goodvibes He's lots cuter since his hair is growing out! I'm glad we are over that phase. Someone mentioned that you might have some gluten free ideas--breads, etc. I'm trying to find a decent cracker and bread. I don't eat much bread, but would like to have something. We tried a g-f bread from a local bakery and it was horrid. They had one at whole foods (can't remember what kind) and it was kind of brick like so we didn't buy it. Anyhow, let me know if you have any ideas.:goodvibes

Hi Donalds! Just jumping in to say hello before I start working again. It's only 1 1/2 weeks into tax season and already I'm pooped. I just hope Dylan sleeps through the night tonight so I can get a straight 7 or 8 hours of sleep in.

I've been keeping up with my reading, just not posting a lot. But don't worry, I'm still here and haven't forgotten about you.

Have a great Thursday tomorrow :goodvibes

Welcome Dave!

Went to Weight Watchers tonight. That was just lovely. I gained 4. Yuck. I'm not sure that was 100% accurate (my IBS is acting up, and I think that may be a compounding factor).

I did stay for the getting started and will begin back tomorrow. One of my biggest challenges is feeling hungry at work. Honestly, I think I've gotten into the habit of snacking and so it's more psychological. I plan to offset this by bringing a healthy snack as a pre emptive strike.

Hello Team Donald! Just signing up...I am a loser for sure (hehe) I lost 13 pounds last year from January to like June/July....but that is where it all went to pot! The late night dinners and cocktails didnt help and then a week at the shore with zero working out...shot it all! Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas well I just didnt get back on track...no that my bigger jeans are getting very tight and I want to go to Disney I have to start! Here's to kicking some butt!:goodvibes

Good Thursday morning Team DOnald We made it to Thursday and the week is almost over.

Even though I didn't have anything planned for last night I was pretty busy when I got home from school. I made a big pot of meatballs and sausage. I usually give some to anyone I think is having a tough time. A friend just had a new baby so I will send her some. Another is having problems with her eye so she is getting some. The rest will go inthe freezer for a quick night.

Tonight is yoga :banana:. Last night I did 20 minutes on the exercise bike and it reallly bothered my knee. I was in a lot of pain afterwards. I don't know what that was about. I did ice my knee after my workout and later in the evening I put on the heating pad. With some tylenol it didn't bother me last night.

I have done WW many times in the past. This time I am counting calories. I am also focusing on high fiber whole foods & trying to stay away from processed foods.

I am also trying to stay away from processed food. It is hard.

Good morning Donalds.

Yesterday, I repeated level 1 of 30DS. It was slightly easier. Today my arms and legs are sore.

Hope the arms and legs feel better today.

I do girl push ups or I did on level 1. Level 2 they don't do them like that. We do walk out push ups where we start from standing bend over walking our hands out and push up once. But I follow the modified version of just pausing at plank for a beat and going back up. I'd lose my momentum if I did the push up and then back up to start again. I'm thinking of doing girl push ups on the same days so I can keep building up on them. Maybe one day I can do real ones but it will be a while I think. I just weigh too much for my arms.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks Tracey. I don't think we'll be able to do that. Michael wants to have a sleep over, so we may try and do it this weekend. Have fun.

Good morning Team Donald!!

We had a school fundraiser last night, spaghetti dinner, and I did pretty well with the eating, 2 small meatballs, small amt pasta and big salad. Got home and did some wii just dance, and today I ran for an hour. I was down a bit on the scale and broke 205 for the first time and think it is possible for me to be really strict and break the 200 pound mark in 2 weeks before our trip. I know it's more than I usually would see, but I'm going for it.
Have a great day!!

Congrats on breaking you 205. I remember when I did that a few years ago and it was a great feeling. I hope to have the same feeling soon.

:wave2: I've done just about every diet there is I think! :lmao: The ones that work before me are calorie counting/exchanges. I'm doing WW Points Plus now. As long as I keep having success I will stick to it. It is nice to have fruits and vegetables be free -- helps you make better choices.

And being able to know calories does help in the long run -- saw that last night on the Biggest Loser. The folks at Fitness Ridge who were served all their food lost a challenge because they didn't know their calories. Not too helpful for real life! :sad2:

My ds and I talked about this the other night. Unless you know what you are eating you are doomed.

Good morning everyone!

I have been off the boards since Monday morning and what an awesome surprise to see my name in the #2 spot this week! I totally didn't expect that! Like I mentioned before, I don't think this week will be the same, but if I can maintain I will be happy.

I had bookclub on Monday night and while I avoided the wine, the colorie rich food certainly made its way onto my plate. The main dish was chicken pot pie and the side dishes were baked mac and cheese (with bacon ), and mashed potatoes (with lots of butter and sour cream...again )...and I had some of each. I talked about it with my BF when I got home and he made the good point that as long as I am not making a habit of it, it is OK to indulge every once in a while. And I am finding that as I get used to eating lower calorie meals, I don't crave that bad stuff as much.

Yesterday I was in St. Louis all day for work. I didn't get a workout in (aside from walking around the aiport trying to find something at least moderately healthy for dinner) and my lunch choices weren't good. We had lunch provided and my options were pizza and caesar salad with (lots) of dressing already added. I didn't have a lot to eat, but I know that I went over my calories for the day.

Today I am back at home, so I'm planning for it to be a much better day :thumbsup2beth

I like caesar salad but some people could really put too much dressing on it. It really ruins it for me.

Question of the Day

Do you stick to the same diet all the time or do you vary?

I vary my diet in a sense of what I'm eating but do try to eat 80% or more of my food clean and whole. I haven't really followed a plan ever such Atkins, low carb, South Beach, etc. I just eat food and track it for the most part though for a couple weeks last year I did do only raw food in the day time and felt great but cost got to be too much. I have been avoiding processed, packaged foods as much as possible. Sometimes when budget is low I end up going for cheaper sustenance but I think if I do meal planning I can greatly cut my cost down to fit my budget better.

I was browsing the message boards on MyFitnessPal and there is this big buff dude on there offering help to people trying to lose. I checked out his food diary and not once single veggie on any of the days I checked. :scared1: Why would I take advice from someone that lives on whey protein shakes and meat and doesn't know what a vegetable is??? His calories were around 1800 a day and he isn't eating his workout calories which I know not everybody does but the no produce thing is kinda scary for me. I know its typical for men to not eat veggies. They feel like if its not meat it won't give them energy. That really makes me irked because I get lots of energy when I eat fresh veggies/fruit.

I could not live with out fruits and veggies.

QOTD: Favorite ride... SOARIN'!! Without a doubt. Epcot is not my favorite park and DD is planning to boycott it during our upcoming Mother/Daughter trip to WDW (have I mentioned that?), but I said we MUST hit Epcot for at least a half day to do Soarin' and Test Track! I ADORE World Showcase, but for my kids it is a big yawn. :sad2: Where did I go wrong with them??;)

I think it is my favorite because we first experienced the "original" version in CA during our trip there in 2005 and it was truly the trip of a lifetime. Best memories of my LIFE from that trip!!......P

My first time at Soaring was the summer it opened at DW. We got on and there was a problem right at the end and we got to sit and stay and do it again.

Question of the Day

Do you stick to the same diet all the time or do you vary?

I have to say cutting out cable and not getting the digital box yet caused me to hit the treadmill for 2 hrs (almost 8.5 miles!) to watch the biggest Loser in the fitness room last night.. Little sore today but still got my 30 min of yoga meltdown in.. Now off to work :P

-em

Ds set up a big tv with a dvd player inthe basement where my bike is. I got to use it for the first time last night and it is great to have the big screen .

It has been a good week so far. I have a call back for a second interview so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

I do plan splurge a bit on Friday as it is Birthday but nothing to extravagent.

Good luck for getting the job. Happy Birthday

Don't have any more time.

Have a happy and healthy day.

Hi Everyone. Tonite is my weight watchers weigh in and I am hopeful that it shows a loss. I was really careful to stay on track this week but didn't exercise as much as I wanted to due to a sore back and hip. Fingers crossed.

Good Thursday morning Team DOnald We made it to Thursday and the week is almost over.

Thanks for jumping in as coach this week, dona! :flower3: I know it was already a busy week for you.

Hi Everyone. Tonite is my weight watchers weigh in and I am hopeful that it shows a loss. I was really careful to stay on track this week but didn't exercise as much as I wanted to due to a sore back and hip. Fingers crossed.

Good luck with your weigh in tonight! :goodvibes

Down 2 pounds this week -- which is a little surprising considering SuperBowl and no exercising due to sore hip this week. Apparently my body wanted a little rest? :confused3

Have a great day DONALDS! :donald:

Thanks Donac, my arms are better today but my legs are sore.

Yesterday I did level 1 of 30DS for the third time. I get a little better each time. Those side lunges are a killer! I also did 25 minutes on the eliptical.

Have a good thursday and remember that tomorrow is weigh in day!

GOOD MORNING DONALD'S!!!!!!!!

Today is a new day!
It's Thursday, are we getting ready for the weekend yet?

DH is taking me out for Valentine's dinner Saturday since he'll be gone Monday.
I need to see if the restaurant we are going to has an online menu and nutrition guide. They have a pork chop dinner that I love, but it comes with 2 chops. I've been asking for extra asparagus and a take out container so I can split the meal in 1/2. I may do that again, or I might just try something new. I don't know yet.

So things I've noticed in the past few days. The days I work out, I seem to be more focused and get stuff done around the house.
Also on the days I work out, I talk waaayyyy to much after. Like, usually I don't talk to people at school but yesterday, wow, I snagged 4 teachers to discuss various things and went to the BOE meeting. I even managed to squeeze in a quick mile on the treadmill before the meeting. (and I ran for 4 minutes straight at a 4.0!)

DS14 had to wake me up this morning because he missed the bus. I haven't been sleeping well the last few days so I took a tylonel Pm before bed. I was surprised that I actually got up, took him to school, and I don't feel draggy. Usually by now I'm ready for a nap, I'm actually ready to go work out but I need to sort and start a load of laundry first.

DH said my butt looked rounder yesterday. LOL It was probably the jeans but still, that's pretty cool.

OK gotta get off this thing. My brain is kind of on overdrive this morning so I'm gonna run with it!! LOL

I hope everyone has an AWESOME day!!!!!!!

Hello Team Donald! Just signing up

:welcome: Welcome to Team Donald!!

I did not have a great day yesterday. I have a bit of a cold, feeling wiped out, and have 2 kids home sick from school. My hubby ordered Chinese food last night to save me from cooking & I overdid it. I did get my exercise in, but I still went over in calories for the day.

New day, Heading up to jumpon this bike since it's toooooo cold to walk outside, and I still have 2 kids home sick.

LOL Thanks for the WOOHOO!!! You're my inspiration ya know! And you know how many times I've joined BL and dropped off. Not this time, can't disappoint my peeps!!
Poor DH I'm like Pamela said this and Pamela did that, and he's like who the heck is this lady?!?!? And I'm like "Imaginary Friend" LOL

I will let you know about the kettle bell. Don't have time to do it today and tomorrow I'm running and having my mammo, but I will get to it this weekend.

OK gotta run and get the kidlets and go to the BOE meeting PTO is presenting and I have to be there.

Awww....shucks.  Good luck with the mammo. Is it your first? Don't be nervous.... truly isn't a big deal. Let us know how it goes.

I am not doing a diet at the moment. I am just focusing on healthy eating and changing my habits for good.It has been a good week so far. I have a call back for a second interview so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

I do plan splurge a bit on Friday as it is Birthday but nothing to extravagent.

This is exactly the RIGHT kind of thinking that will make you SO successful with this weight loss journey!! Good luck with the interview and happy early birthday!!

Welcome to our group! Nice to have a bit more of the male perspective on things! But don't worry if we get envious of your pounds dropping away (like the male of our species tends to have happen). We won't :badpc: you too much!! Let us know when you qualify for Boston. I've been to the start of the Marathon many times and would love to have someone to cheer for!

Well.... I can tell you what NOT to try..... rice bread and tapioca bread...(can't remember the company name.... sold packaged in the health food areas, yellow/orange label). ICKY!!

Here is a link to a bakery right here in my little town in NH that has a decent number of gluten-free offerings and they do ship. I've only tried an item or two from them, but they have an excellent reputation around here.

http://www.abigailsbakery.com/

Also.... I know the "Bob's Red Mill" stuff that is sold in places like Whole Foods and such offers several gluten-free mixes (cookies, breads, cakes).

I had only marginal success making my own wheat-free breads and stuff (using my bread machine). I used rice flour mostly. DS was also having an issue with soy and potatoes at the time, so we couldn't use either of those. Someone had also recommended spelt flour to us (not sure about the gluten content in that), but it isn't recommended for people with wheat allergies, so we never tried it.

Sorry I can't be more help.

You did the HARDEST part already, right?? You faced up the scale, even though the news was bad.

I have certain times of day that trigger that "snacky" response... and I try to plan to allow a point or two during that time. But if I don't have the points to spend, I make sure I have carrots, celery, seltzer, and gum handy. Good luck starting back. You CAN do this!!

You are seeing SO MANY positive changes in your life with your new lifestyle! It must feel SO GOOD!!

And planning ahead for your Valentine's dinner is GREAT!! I haven't even THOUGHT about Valentine's day yet, except to ask DS what he is planning to buy for his "girlfriend" and to remind DD that one good thing about NOT currently being in a relationship is that she doesn't have that "what to buy" worry for Valentine's day!!

So..... along with "Hot Legs" now you're telling us you are getting "Buns of Steel"??? We're all gonna be wanting pictures soon! :thumbsup2

Sorry about all of the sickness in your house. I cannot control myself with chinese food, so I totally understand.

Good luck with your NEW DAY today! Good attitude!

Happy Thursday friends!! This week is flying right along!

DH is officially back to work today! I never would have imagined he would be back this soon. If you had talked to me in late November, I would have said that this would be nothing short of a miracle! Thanks to all of you who prayed so hard for us after his accident. I know that the Disboard frowns on "bible talk", but I must say..... GOD is good!

DS's b.ball team won their playoff game last night.... which was good and bad. It means they move up to the next game... but the game schedule means that DS can't go to the Valentine's day dance with his "girlfriend" and it also means our Friday schedule is nuts! I won't be able to attend his game either, as I will be at a championship swim meet with DD.

By Sunday night I probably will have driven about 10 hours (swim meets all weekend). Gotta remember to grab a seat cushion for my butt!! One downside to losing 90 pounds is I no longer have any natural cushioning to sit on! :rotfl:

Sorry about all that rambling.... I'm really just thinking out loud!

Well... as usual lately, not much to report from my front here. Scrapbooking is going along well.... exercise... not so much. I am just totally uninspired to run much on the TM and it has been too cold and snowy to go out. I'm really just eeking out a minimum of exercise (plus shoveling snow). Hopefully this funk will pass. Meanwhile, my weight loss has totally stalled. Oh well.

Gonna get moving now. TTYL....................P

Things seem to have slowed in here. I hope all us Donalds can have good weigh ins this week. I'm anxious about mine after my messy weekend. I've been working hard this week exercising and staying under my target so we shall see.

I tried out Jillian's Banish Fat Boost Metabolism last night finally because I was over calories by a garlic toast slice. Of course I decided to have ice cream too but was still under my target since I eat my exercise calories. The work out is tough but thanks to 30 Day Shred I'm in a lot better shape so it wasn't too bad. Today is a Walk Away the Pounds day and I'll get to it as soon as my breakfast settles. I've been wanting to try out flax seeds so I picked a bag of milled flax seeds that have been "sliced" I take it. I put some on my oatmeal this morning and had some on my salad last night. Not bad it gets me my Omega 3 and 9 that my Dr. really wants me taking but $4.99 for a bag that will last weeks is better than the cost of the fish oil pills she recommends for my blood pressure. I can not wait to get off the BP meds I'm tired of using so much tp because it makes me run for bathroom all morning. :rolleyes1 Sorry for TMI.

Okay I gotta take out the recycle trash can so they can pick it up I'll try to get back later.

:wave2: Sorry I have been MIA, I have been staying super busy. Unfortunately I have also not been eating so well so I am hoping for a maintain this week. I am scared to step on the scale tomorrow.'

My stomach is feeling better. I have been taking the meds every morning and haven't had any OTC pain meds so that is probably helping. But I am in a lot more pain during the day so haven't exercised. When I go back in a few weeks I will ask him about going back to some of the prescrip stuff that isn't as bad for the tummy.

QOTD for Tuesday: Very hard to choose just one even for each park
AK: Kali River Rapids
DHS: Fantasmic! (not a ride but there aren't many there I do go on!)
Epcot: Test Track
MK: was Splash Mountain but I haven't been able to ride it since my foot issues so probably Buzz Lightyear

Question of the Day
Do you stick to the same diet all the time or do you vary?
I follow the South Beach principles. Since I am not really on a diet, but just adopting a healthy way of eating I don't really vary.

First of all.... a small NSV to mention. I FINISHED a bottle of multi-vitamins!! It didn't get forgotten and expire. I actually started it and finished it!! Kind of silly I suppose, but in the past I've bought vitamins and then they have languished in the cupboard until they've expired and then gotten thrown out.
:yay: I have been meaning to ask if anyone here has a good recommendation for a multi vitamin. All the ones that I have ever tried are so HUGE that they are hard to take. I can take a regular size pill with no problem. I would rather take 3 regular size ones to get a full dose then one huge thing that looks like it should be going to an elephant. And I don't like the chewables so I would really like to find something.

Hi Everyone, I am your new teammate. I need to focus on lossing weight. I gained 25 pounds in the last 14 months. I want to take the weight off for health reasons, to feel better about myself, and to run a marathon at my full potential.
David

:welcome: Dave.

NSV
I just put on size 16 jeans that I haven't worn since I had DD. And I did NOT have to lay down to zip them up or unzip them to sit down to type this!!!
:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:
:cheer2::dance3::yay: That is so awesome!:yay::dance3::cheer2: And contrats on being our bigggest loser this week! :cool1:

I did stay for the getting started and will begin back tomorrow. One of my biggest challenges is feeling hungry at work. Honestly, I think I've gotten into the habit of snacking and so it's more psychological. I plan to offset this by bringing a healthy snack as a pre emptive strike.
May not be practical while at work but try drinking more water when you feel hungry. I know it is hard to get to the bathroom while teaching but if you can get a little more in when you feel hungry it may help. Also try snacks with some protein in them like some cheese or yogurt. They will fill you up longer.

Hello Team Donald! Just signing up...I am a loser for sure (hehe) I lost 13 pounds last year from January to like June/July....but that is where it all went to pot! Here's to kicking some butt!:goodvibes
:welcome: :cheer2:

Also.... I know the "Bob's Red Mill" stuff that is sold in places like Whole Foods and such offers several gluten-free mixes (cookies, breads, cakes).

I know that the Disboard frowns on "bible talk", but I must say..... GOD is good!
Only when it is controversial/debatable. That sort of affirmation statement you made is absolutely fine. :goodvibes I know how excited you both must be to have him going back. Prayers for a good day and his continued healing.

Rose&Mike: I made these when we were trying GF with my dd and they were really pretty good! Everyone ate them and I had to remind them they were for DD only! I didn't have the right pan but I just made them in a regular muffin pan and cut them in half and put sandwich fillings inside or gave her one with dinner.

There are also some "nut" crackers by Blue Diamond called Nut Thins. DD didn't like them but she doesn't really like nuts. And you can get Rice Crackers usually in the Asian section of the store that she was okay with. I crushed them to use as bread crumbs in meatloaf and no one knew the difference.

Now I've spent to long on here and have to get moving for the day. Too much to do and not nearly enough time!

P--thanks for the g-f ideas. I'm glad DH is back at work.:goodvibes

Thanks so much! Those rolls look great. I might even make them in mini-muffin tins. I ate very little bread even before this, but sometimes you just want it! I have some of the pecan nut thins right now. They took a little getting used to, but they are pretty tasty. They look very oily--Mike said because there is no gluten to soak up the oil from the nuts:rotfl:, but I really like them.
I tested negative for celiac disease (blood test only) but I'm going to try g-f for a couple of weeks. I started on Saturday. I am feeling a bit better, but that could be from the huge amounts of beans I have been eating! G-f vegetarian is a little challenging.:goodvibes
