TEAM DONALD--Biggest Loser 11 Spring Team Challenge

A little sad today. Ds2 is moving back to schooll tomorrow.
 that's got to be tough. Hang in there. Hope he'll be home for spring break.

So, all in all - Im sure I did go over my calories but it could have been SOOO much worse, just on bread alone. Did you know each roll has 277 calories? EACH.
sounds like you did really well. I still am amazed when I think back to how much I used to eat, and even thought I still have those days, they are not nearly as frequent or as bad as I used to be. Good work!:thumbsup2 Enjoy your walk today.

I had a 1.5 pound loss yesterday which was enough to get me my 5 pound star from WW. It's a balance to increase my mileage for the Princess and keep those calories where they need to be but the tracking helps alot.
:cool1:congrats on your loss and your 5 lb star!! Hope you all enjoy your relaxing weekend and nip those colds in the bud.

You may have a cookie or something. But you may not eat that cookie! :rotfl2:
:lmao:

I should have weighed in today! My little friend came so I'm down another 2 pounds. Hopefully I can control the cravings through the week and keep that 2 pounds off for the next weigh in.

Got through 3/4 of the C25K then walked another 1/2 of a mile. Right now I did 1.5 in 30 minutes. I have got to pick up the pace!!! But I feel better today then yesterday.
:thumbsup2Glad you saw a loss today. 1.5 miles in 30 min is awesome! that's a 20 min mile, and I think you will find as you follow the c25k, slowly your speed will increase as you build up your endurance. when I was first doing the c25k, i was talking to a runner that I work with about how I could hardly make the minute without feeling like i was going to pass out, and the best advice she gave me was to slow down until I felt better. Some times my running was probably slower than the walking, but the slowing down did help me to be able to get through the running intervals. Keep it up, you're doing great.:cool1:
Dear God,
All I want for 2011 is a fat bank account and a slim body. Please don't get them mixed up like you did last year!
As a joke it is a little funny, but there's a kernel of truth in there. If you are asking somebody else to give you the slim body, you will never get it. Others can help, but to change me, I have to make the change. And being here is making a positive step :goodvibes
:lmao::thumbsup2 Great to see you Shannon.

testing :cool1::cool1::cool1:

That did the trick! I did not eat the cookie, but I did get rid of it.:rotfl:

Thanks!
Nice!! I'd like a cookie right now.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAUREEN! :bday:

Just popping in to say hello. I'm happy to feel like i've caught up with everyone today. I cleaned the house this morning, and have a few christmas things left to pack up. Went for a run/walk this afternoon with a friend. We walked and talked more than ran, but ended up doing 5 miles, and it was still under 15 min/miles. ds was at a playdate and just got home, so I'm glad i came here first.

Have a great evening.:)

Happy Saturday, Donalds! I lost 2 pounds this week. Actually, it was more than that earlier in the week and then we had fettuccine alfredo at my parents' house and the leftover alfredo sauce came home with us. I'm not even going to describe the deliciousness because trust me, you will crave it, too! :headache: Not even smaller portions were a good idea!! :rotfl: Sigh. I do not think we'll be using that recipe for a while.

QOTD: favorite veggie: grilled corn on the cob.

But I forgot about roasting them with olive oil in the oven. Thanks for reminding me! I'm putting asparagus on my list, I love that in the oven. A nice summer treat in the dead of winter.

I'm new here- just joined today! I figured I'd hop in and answer the question of the day, my favorite vegetable:

I really love cauliflower. I love to roast it and to steam and mash it and eat as mashed potatoes.. SO yummy!

Happy Birthday Maureen

QOTD I agree with Lisa. I love roasted veggies. I make a big batch and then spray on some balsamic vinegrette and put it in wraps for lunch. My family loves roasted cauliflower and that is the only way they want it.

katesorad welcome to the group. It has been quiet today. During the week this thread has been very fast so just be warned.

Kathy glad you had some free time.

Hi everyone I missed

Have a great evening.

Just a quick stop in since I'm waiting on my hair to dry some so I can run to the grocery store.

QOTD: My favorite veggie is red bell peppers. I love them raw alone or in salads of course but also like them cooked in stir fries or curries.

I tried out a new way of flavoring my tuna so its more palatable. I was always a miracle whip and pickle relish in it gal but remember my dad had some of the little cans with crackers and had some flavored with citrus and stuff. So instead of using the extra calories and fat in Miracle Whip I just used a couple tablespoons of lime juice and then my pickle relish it was pretty good on my slice of Earthgrain bread for lunch yesterday with a salad of spring mix lettuce(my fav) with red bell pepper and a few grape tomatoes. I need to learn some ratios for a low cal vinaigrette. I have the Good Seasons(i think) bottle and have mixed olive oil, vinegar and water level indicators on its side. I usually increase vinegar and water so less oil too. But I need some ideas to put in it. The rice vinegar was very yummy in the last batch.

Okay I'll try for some personals later its 4pm and I gotta get a few things to do with dinner plus I need more salad and stuff too.

QOTD - Saturday 1/15/2011 - What is your favorite vegetable? Please share your favorite ways of preparing/cooking/eating it!

My favorite vegetable is asparagus. My favorite way to cook it is to drizzle it with olive oil and grill it. Then I sprinkle it with a little salt...I also like it roasted in the oven. I usually cook extra so I can put it in an omelet the next morning. I've been trying to get some veggies into my mornings.

I also like like roasted green beans with thinly sliced shallots. I use a little olive oil with them too and then roast in the oven. I've learned to keep an eye on them though because the sliced shallots cook more quickly than the beans.

Keep those weigh ins coming! I would post a list of those I haven't heard from but the list is VERY LONG! Therefore I will post before 4:30 tomorrow those that I haven't heard from yet for this week!

Team Donald has jumped back in the lead with the most loss but still behind in average! This is going to be one great challenge!!!!

Have a great Saturday night!!!! I'm taking it easy the rest of the night gearing up for the Patriots game tomorrow afternoon! Can't wait for that!!!! Just gotta get in my workouts before then!!!

I'm just trying to catch up a little.....

Good morning Team Donald! I'm looking forward to a successful week 3 for everyone!

Many of my QOTDs this week will probably involve what your routine is. I am hoping by sharing, we will all learn from each other and come up with some new ideas!

1/14/11 Friday QOTD - What does a typical weekly exercise plan look like for you? How often, when and what do you plan to do? How often do you meet these goals?

My goal is to hit the gym every day and either do BodyPump (hour class) or the elliptical(45 -60 min.) I can usually get to the gym every day. This past week my DD6 was sick and home from school Monday - Wednesday and my DD was traveling for work so I missed the gym a few days. I was able to work out at home with the wii, but I really missed the gym. I did get to the gym on Thursday and Friday and I felt so much better.

:dogdance:This week I'm getting back on track.....
Fri. - 65 minutes on the elliptical ::yes::
Saturday - 55 min. elliptical ::yes::
Sunday - Would love to do BP but it looks like 60 min. elliptical again
Monday - elliptical again - 55 min.
Tuesday - BodyPump + elliptical 30 min
Wednesday - elliptical
Thursday - BodyPump + elliptical 30 min

I'm new here- just joined today! I figured I'd hop in and answer the question of the day, my favorite vegetable:

I really love cauliflower. I love to roast it and to steam and mash it and eat as mashed potatoes.. SO yummy!

:welcome:
I really should try roasting some veggies as so many of you enjoy it. It sounds so much fancier than just steaming them.

I also like like roasted green beans with thinly sliced shallots. I use a little olive oil with them too and then roast in the oven. I've learned to keep an eye on them though because the sliced shallots cook more quickly than the beans.

That sounds yummy. :goodvibes

Just back from the gym and getting ready for dinner. I have found it really helpful to pre-track what I PLAN on eating on Sparkpeople. I'm able to have my little champagne (treat for the week) and not feel bad about it. I did have a loss this week, which is what I expected, since I have been really good about tracking, not cheating and exercising. The hard thing will be if I do that and have a week where I don't lose. I have two big incentives for losing weight - one is our upcoming trip, the other is the possibility of a trip to a paradise location - where right now I would be hardpressed to put a swimsuit on in front of people.

QOTD - asparagus

:welcome:
I really should try roasting some veggies as so many of you enjoy it. It sounds so much fancier than just steaming them.

Roasting them is SO yummy! You can spray it with Pam Cooking Spray in the olive oil flavor rather than coat them with olive oil and they taste just as good without the calories! I'll throw on freshly ground sea salt, freshly ground black pepper, basil, oregano, red pepper flakes, and just a sprinkle of cayenne pepper because I like it spicy.. but you can leave that out if you're not a big fan of spicy foods. It's SO good.

Edit: Sorry, I got so excited about roasted veggies that I forgot to thank you for the welcome!!!!!!

I've had you on my mind. Glad you are here, even if not on my team. I'm a Mickey... Hang in there!

Hey everyone - I'm coaching Mickey this week, so my time is pretty limited, but I wanted to stop in and say hello, and let you know that Brad officially made it through 1 week with no "misses"! I got this am at 4 and made muffins for him to take to his employees to thank them for stepping up.

Sophie's bday went well, other than a drama episode with her insisting (and meaning it, not just for dramatic effect) that she wanted to die so she could go to heaven and see Poppie. I finally got her calmed down and distracted, but it pretty much set me off for the rest of the day.

Everyone else - don't stress, or dive under a snowbank. You've got this! Keep on keeping on if you didn't have results on the scale you wanted. If you did, CONGRATS!

Sorry that Sophie is missing her Poppie so much. THat is so sad... and it makes it so hard on you.

I'm sure that the muffins were appreciated and I'm glad to hear his first week went so well.

Ugh! Why does the second week seem so much harder? Doing the same eating and working out as the first, it just doesn't seem to be working as well. Weight loss this week, not as much as last, but everyday I seem to struggle in the late afternoons.

Ok venting over :)

It does seem harder... the excitement and sense of "new adventure" are usually gone... things seem boring, the sense of hunger is frustrating. Try finding some "new" foods... have you tried VitaMuffins? They are a nice treat and have plenty of fiber. How about trying a new recipe or a new vegetable or fruit? Find a new exercise to try maybe.

Anyhow, take it from someone who has been on this journey for a relatively long time.... it WILL eventually get easier and more "normal".

It was a crazy week for me, but good!
ended up with 4lb loss :cool1:
got 4/5 on my quiz on my course :cool1:
Decided to start setting the alarm earlier and get up and do some WiiFit - did it 3 days this week :cool1: Plus show shoveling!
I have cut back on junk food and pop, and am feeling successful!

Got this quote on the daily newletter at work and thought it was appropriate for BL:
“Success is not built on success. It's built on failure. It's built on frustration. Sometimes its built on catastrophe. “ - Sumner Redstone

SHOUT OUT TO SHANNON!! WOOHOO! Four pounds is faaaabulous! I'm so happy for you!!

I did have a soda with dinner. I haven't had one since NYE. But I made a very conscious decision to have it, not just mindless reached for it. And I had a diet one. I think part of the battle is making sure I am not just reaching for what is quick and easy and that I have a reason for what I am consuming.

Conscious decisions are an IMPORTANT part of this healthier eating journey. I think that for many of us, before we started on this journey, we did a LOT of unconscious eating.... reaching for a cracker as we make things for the kids, grabbing a handful of chips as we pack lunches, a piece or two (or more) of candy as we hand out halloween goodies, licking the peanut butter knife, finishing the last of the ____________ as we clean up from dinner. It isn't really eating because of hunger... or even because of temptation... it is just kind of "invisible" eating... but the pounds certainly aren't invisible.

Making a CONSCIOUS choice to enjoy a treat is GREAT! You thought about it, (presumably) journaled the calories/points, and make it a CHOICE.

I do this all the time, drives DH crazy. He says "I'm not playing this game".
Congrats on your .6 loss !!!
Thanks for this post, I need to hear it.

Shawnprincess:

You're welcome!

Good morning team donald! First, please forgive me for not personally replying to each of you who posted last night. Those of you who shared your exercise plan, thank you! To those of you who shared your experience with 30 day shred, I really appreciate it. I'm off to the rink for the next 6 hours and then to the gym. I need to get a good breakfast in first because I won't even be able to snack until 12:45. I will be on in the late afternoon or early evening and will reply better then!

QOTD - Saturday 1/15/2011 - What is your favorite vegetable? Please share your favorite ways of preparing/cooking/eating it!
I admit, this is a selfish question. I struggle a lot with different vegetables. I have doubled the different vegetables I eat but I still need to get myself eating more. I'm hoping there is at least one other person on team donald who can learn as much from the responses to this as I can!

Have a happy, successful Saturday that you will be proud of!

Sorry I've been bad about answering the QOTD. Busy time I guess.

Veggies are an easy answer.... I love most veggies... hard to name a favorite. Top three would probably be broccoli, asparagus, cauliflower.

Many, many veggies are at their best when oven roasted. I usually spray mine with some PAM spray, but you can certainly also use canola oil or EVOO (although the health aspects of EVOO deteriorate with high heat). Broccoli, cauliflower, beets, winter squash, carrots, parsnips, green beans, sweet potatoes, asparagus are all excellent when oven roasted.

Summer squash, zucchini, onions, green peppers, eggplant are all excellent when grilled (after spraying with PAM or brushing with oil).

I also like stir-fry... onions, peppers, summer squash, pea pods, broccoli slaw, green beans, shredded carrots, broccoli, spinach, napa cabbage, bok choy, peas.

As far as boiling/steaming... turnips (about my least favorite veggie), carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, summer squash, zucchini.

Raw veggies.... obviously salads are delicious.... start with something special like baby spinach or mixed spring greens or mesculin or at least Romaine... the darker the green, the healthier. Iceberg is essentially useless, nutritionally. Top with grape tomatoes or cherry tomatoes, shredded carrots or baby carrots, cucumber, bell pepper slices, purple onion, chopped parsley, and so many other (non-vegetable) things like raisins, craisins, hard-boiled egg whites, hummus, guacamole, nuts, seeds, quinoa, black beans.... MMMM this is making me hungry for a good salad just talking about it!

Well... as you can tell, I LOVE veggies. Honestly... I eat veggies three meals a day at least 3 days a week... and I have them every day with lunch and dinner. I've got some GREAT recipes that include lots of veggies if any one is interested. I've got a great fried rice recipe that has scallions, bok choy, and peas. I've got a "light" fettucine alfredo recipe that has LOTS of veggies.

Okay.... I'll stop talking now.

I had a 1.5 pound loss yesterday which was enough to get me my 5 pound star from WW. It's a balance to increase my mileage for the Princess and keep those calories where they need to be but the tracking helps alot.

Have a great day DONALDS!

WOOHOO~!!! That is GREAT!! :worship:

I should have weighed in today! My little friend came so I'm down another 2 pounds. Hopefully I can control the cravings through the week and keep that 2 pounds off for the next weigh in.

Got through 3/4 of the C25K then walked another 1/2 of a mile. Right now I did 1.5 in 30 minutes. I have got to pick up the pace!!! But I feel better today then yesterday.

You are so lucky you can lose weight while your "friend" is visiting. My friend needs to be OUT OF THE HOUSE before my weight can change for the better. ;)

I'm new here- just joined today! I figured I'd hop in and answer the question of the day, my favorite vegetable:

I really love cauliflower. I love to roast it and to steam and mash it and eat as mashed potatoes.. SO yummy!

Welcome! I second that vote for roasted cauliflower... I overcook it a bit and let it get brown and a bit dry around the edge... MMMMM!

Nice idea with the tuna. I have kind of given it up, mainly because I didn't want to deal with the mayo calories and because of concern about mercury. But I wouldn't mind having it occasionally. I love the idea of trying the lime juice. Last time I had it, I used a bit of Paul Newman's light balsamic vinagarette dressing on it instead of mayo. That was very tasty. Maybe I'll throw some on my salad tomorrow at lunch. Thanks for the idea!

Evening all! I've been sitting here for over an hour trying to get caught up (plus watching the kids play Just Dance 2 on the Wii... what a hoot!!:lmao: )
Spent the majority of today at kids' sporting events (DS scored twice and his team won their game this morning. DD had a couple of good swims this afternoon). Tomorrow I will shovel/snowblow tonight's snow (hopefully it isn't much), head to church with DD, and we will go straight to the next swim event in MA after that... so I've gotta rise and shine early to get lunches packed up, snowblowing done, showered and dressed for church, plus clothes to change into later laid out (although I could go to church in jeans and make my life easier). Tomorrow's swim meet doesn't start until 2pm, so I think we probably won't be home until at least 8pm. Monday is a school holiday, but she does have swim practice at 5:45 am, which means a 4:45 am alarm... oh well.

Also, DMIL and DBIL are coming up to visit DH on Monday... so after I drop DD off for swim practice car pool, I'll probably return home and start cleaning...

I'll try to return on Monday to say HI!.................P

QOTD = spinach! I put it in EVERYTHING as well as by itself with a little onion in the pan. I stay away from cream spinach due to the crazy calories and the fact that I could eat a gallon of it in a seating :scared1:

Today was a great day! I did a fast walking 3 miles on the treadmill and shaved 10 minutes off my time

I finally went to a running store and bought some "real" running sneakers! They cost a fortune so I have high hopes that it will help with my bad leg. My dad was up from Florida for the weekend and I was telling him about my new sneakers. He said, "well, if you do end up doing the Princess Marathon your mom and I would like to stay for the week after..." I corrected him and said, "dad, there is no "if", I am doing the half marathon so make those reservations!" It was so great to say it outloud!!

Donalds, have a fabulous weekend of healthy choices :yay:

Geez everytime I get on this thread I feel like there are 30 posts I haven't read yet. It's a little overwhelming for me but I'll try and tough it out.:thumbsup2

QOTD: favorite veggies

I love veggies!!! I eat them everyday for lunch and dinner and soemtimes fro snacks. I like all veggies except: broccoli , cooked cauliflower :headache:, and brussell sprouts.

Raw veggies - carrots, celery, bell peppers, cucumbers, jicama, lettuce, spinach and tomatoes

steamed veggies- corn, peas, green beans, summer squash
grilled veggies- summer squash, bell peppers, green beans with terriyaki sauce
roasted veggies- carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, bell peppers, asparagus, eggplant

my favorite way to eat veggies it stir fried with tofu or in the two months of winter weather roasted with olive oil and sea salt

 Very busy day today. DH and I went out on a "triple date" with 2 other couples. We have been friends a long time get together for kids related stuff but have never gone out just all the adults together. I didn't get to pick the restaurant so we had to work with what was chosen-- Mexican. We love us some mexican food-- all that cheese and cream sauce and the chips and beer. . NOPE! We didn't have a bit of it. DH remarked that this is the only time in his life he has eaten at a Mexican restaurant and not had even one chip. Usually he and I can go through at least 2 baskets or more together. We both ordered beef fajitas. I thought they were coming with charro beans but they came with refried. I whispered to DH "the beans are deadly" just so he would know and could make his own choice whether to eat them. I had one tortilla loaded with beef and lettuce and tomato and he only had 2. Usually he would have 5 or 6, plus the chips and the beans and the cheese. We both just ate much of the meat with a fork. We left feeling victorious! We had a great meal and were able to stick to healthy choices.

Afterwards he was feeling a bit hungry-- we lingered over drinks (water and unsweet tea for us) for an hour or more after so we stopped by the store and got fresh salad stuff and new crop of fresh veggies for the upcoming week.

So, with all of the other Asparagus lovers here-- does anyone else have certain biological "issues" with it for about 12 hours or so after you eat it? DH doesn't so he thinks I am crazy but I have read that "asparagus pee" is a very real thing.

QOTD - Saturday 1/15/2011 - What is your favorite vegetable? Please share your favorite ways of preparing/cooking/eating it!
Hmmm. That is a hard one. There are so many that do love and so many that I don't! Many of the ones I like have been mentioned already so I will pick a different one and say:
Snow Peas and Snap Peas-- raw or just lightly sauteed with a small amount of butter or olive oil. So crunchy I can eat them instead of chips and so sweet that I can pretend they are dessert!
Very weird, Try logging out and closing your browser, emptying your cache and restarting your browser again.
You may have a cookie or something. But you may not eat that cookie! :rotfl2:

:rotfl: That is usually the first advice that I give too. Along with doing a complete shut down of your computer if you are like me and never power off. It is really quite interesting how those darn cookies are a problem on our hips and on our computers!
I really love cauliflower. I love to roast it and to steam and mash it and eat as mashed potatoes.. SO yummy!
I need to try roasting it. I can almost stand it steamed and mashed so I am trying to branch out. Cauliflower has definitely been near the top of my :crazy2: list but I am working on it.

Just back from the gym and getting ready for dinner. I have found it really helpful to pre-track what I PLAN on eating on Sparkpeople.
:thumbsup2 I find this to be a great help also. It can help me to see if things are balanced. I love their daily report you can get. The pie charts make things so obvious to me.

 Completely forgot to journal it. I didn't get a chance to write that meal down until today. I haven't been putting drinks down because they just get added to the water count up top-- since that is all I have been drinking! I will go back and add it now. Thanks for the reminder.:thumbsup2

Good SUnday Morning Team Donald

Ds leaves early this morning to go back for the semester. He is one of those kids who plans everything. He wants to get there early to get a good parking spot to make it easier to bring his stuff to his room. He has to cross a road so he wants to do it early in the day. I know he is execited and nervous about this semester but I know he will do fine.

Today is a busy day. Church, then nursing home to give out communion and then we need to visit dh's sister. She wasn't feeling well at work on Friday so she ended up in the hospital. They have kept her for obsevation and tests until Monday. She works at the college in town so she is in the local hospital so we don't have to go far. I should go grocery shopping and have to plan out the week.

Sometime today or tomorrow I need to get a haircut. I haven't gotten one in a few months. I also need to find something to wear for Tuesday. I have an interview tuesday morning for a mentoring position for a new teacher who is coming in for a friend who is going on maternity leave. Any new teacher needs a mentor for their first year. I don't know if I am going to get it but there is someone in the department who also applied. She is a very weak teacher who thinks she knows everything and she doesn't. If I get it I get it. It would be nice because it is a little extra money.

LTS I know what you mean about the asparagus pee. I do get it.

hpfan100 yesterday was a good day to get on. It was pretty slow.

RemembertheMagic98 Are you doing the Princess this Feb?

Pamela Hope the crazy schedule for the weekend doesn't leave you too tired. I remember those weekends. Hope your daughter has a good meet today.

tink_lover Two vacations sound great. We don't have anything planned yet. We still have this semester and another year of college tuition so we have been watching our pennies. I didn't go anywhere last year. Ds went to the Boy Scout National Jamboree as a worker, ds1 went to DW with his gf and ds2 worked all summer after going to Gambia in Jan for a project with school. It was pretty funny when I wrote up our Christmas letter last month. I talked about all the trips the guys went on and then when it came to talk about me dh suggested "Dona took yet another educational course." I wouldn't let him include a picture of my gf and I in a car driving to the class.

LuvBaloo How is the new job and new house coming? Is it what you hoped for?

Kate Are you catching up? Yesterday was slow so it was a good day to get on here.

MacG I love asparagus this way. I think I will try the green beans this way.

Zoesmama03 I might try the tuna fish. It sounds great.

well off to get some things done before I have to go to church.

Have a happy and healthy day.

lovetoscrap (or if anyone else has an idea)--my smilies have stopped moving! I am sure I clicked something to make them stop moving but I cannot figure out what! Any thoughts???? I really like it when my smilies move!
:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: That cracked me up!

:wave2: Hi Taryn! Glad things are getting better at work for Brad. You know I get all my QOTD from sparkpeople so help yourself! I had a 1.5 pound loss yesterday which was enough to get me my 5 pound star from WW. It's a balance to increase my mileage for the Princess and keep those calories where they need to be but the tracking helps alot.
;) love some sp. CONGRATS on down 5!!! Hope you all are feeling better soon!

Dear God,
All I want for 2011 is a fat bank account and a slim body. Please don't get them mixed up like you did last year!
Too cute! Reminds me of the song Santa Baby!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAUREEN! :bday: party:
From me, too!!!!!!

:Just popping in to say hello.
GREAT JOB!!!!!!! Glad you had a productive day!

Great job!!! And yes, it's real, TRUST ME. Dh and I both will testify to that.;)

Safe travels for DS, and  for his mommy! Love that you are so confident with his abilities, hope I can be that way one day. TWEENS!!!! That is so VERY awesome that you get paid to be a mentor. I've been one for the last 2 years, no pay increase.... Oh well. Brownie points, I guess!
