TEAM DONALD--Biggest Loser 11 Spring Team Challenge

QOTD: I would be riding rockn rollercoaster with my daughters and screaming my head off!

Just popping in to say hi. I have my WW weigh in tomorrow and I'm not overly hopeful. Tracking has always been hard for me so I decided that this week I would just write things down and next week (tomorrow) start tracking points. It doesn't help that I can't find my calculator. I hate that there is no slider anymore. Oh well. So in short, I just wrote everything down, didn't really try to change my habits and it's that TOM. But tomorrow is when I really kick things in high gear, so hopefully I can still post a loss by Friday.

QOTD: I would be watching the 3:00 parade!

1/9/11 Sunday QOTD: If you were at Disneyland or Disney World today what you would you be doing right now?

I would be at Disneyworld, today is Sunday so we would be at either Epcot or MGM (yeah, I still call it MGM LOL). So we would either be 1/2 way through the World Showcase or watching Streetmosphere characters or just wandering. If I had my druthers I'd be at Epcot because I log 9-12 miles a day there. Love it!!

Unfortunately it is those "dollops" and "sploshes" that get us into trouble on the scale. And if you don't write them and you have a bad week on the scale you won't know why. I KNOW that there are people who gain weight and bring their food journals to the meetings for the leaders to look and when when they are questioned they say something like "well... I have a coffee with just a little cream and sugar every morning.... did I need to write/track that?" YUP! I have heard stories at WW about folks who think that they can just "ignore" that iced mocha latte that they get every afternoon for the commute home... after all, coffee has no calories, right? ;)

You need to be measuring and journaling EVERYTHING that you consume! If measuring every time you have a cup of tea is too much of a bother, you could try what I did for a while. I would measure out a measuring cup of skim milk and put it in the fridge... and write the entire cup in my journal. Then as I wanted milk for coffee/tea/oatmeal during the day, I would take it from that cup. When the cup was empty, I was done for the day and I had already counted and journaled that cup. You could do the same for sugar. If you think you have about 3 Tb. of sugar throughout the day in your tea, you could measure out the full 3 Tb. into a small dish in the morning, journal it, and then take from there during the day. When it is gone, you are done with sugar for the day (or you could add another 3 Tb., journal it, and keep going).

If you want to avoid bad surprises, know the points/calories of a food in ADVANCE of eating it. It might change your mind about consuming it in the first place.

I always plan on having a pretty journal, but I go through them so quickly that I just end up using cheap spiral bound notebooks.... but when I'm lucky, I find them with pink covers... my favorite color.

I'll have to start checking over there more regularly. If you think of it, give me a heads-up before the next one.

Glad to hear it.

But you're not going any where soon, right??

It does take some getting used to. I try really hard to write it BEFORE I eat it... so I don't forget. Usually, after I have decided what I am eating, I write it down to figure out the points before I eat, just in case I decide it it too many or too few.

You need to write a book! Thanks for the advice! I'm sure I'll have lots more questions on this journey.
And no I don't plan on going anywhere anytime soon. LOL you are stuck with me wether you like it or not!
I will add you to my list to contacts for the crop. We will have preliminary PM's going out for it a few days in advance. And we are working on a weekend crop(maybe over summer) as long as I can schedule people to help host blocks of time.

I am not an exerciser- I am NOT a runner or even jogger. I can walk kinda fast if I am heading toward a sale or a dessert :) DH said to me could you do a 5 K?? I said well I can walk 3 miles But have no idea how fast. So he told me If I can and work up to it and do a 15 minute mile
he will buy me the shoes I need and he will spring for the halloween 5 K in October for me.
and If I keep going he will spring for the 2012 Princess 1/2. this includes staying at the world etc..

So I am thankful for the inspiration and :cheer2: from others on this challenge. I am so glad we decided to go yesterday and that he made a wrong turn :)

I hope everyone has a great week and let's go TEAM DONALD!

DS14 has challenged me with the Everest Challenge 5K at WDW. He is a cross country runner as well as the other 2 boys, DD will follow suit soon.
Their pace for the Everest Challenge is a 16 minute mile, which I can walk quickly but I know that's to slow for DS. I started the couch to 5K program from coolrunner and I really like it. I set it up on my iPhone and added music to it.
Oh and I am not a runner!! So we can be in this together!

any recommendations for running shoes? I know everyone has there favorites but I could use some steering in the right direction. I have a high arch if that helps, I used to wear Nike all the time growing up.
Any brands I should stay away from?
I am currently doing treadmill running but once it gets warmer I will switch to cross country, and very little road up until the 5K at Disney.

The kids on DS's cross country team use flats but DS like a cross country shoe more.

Your happy weightkeeper!!!!!

CHeck list above again! Updated with who I am still missing weigh ins from. I did receive a few emails that said people would weigh in tomorrow so that's fine as long as I get the message by 7:30pm EST!

I've also been getting some boards@disboards.com messages with nothing in the message so if you have tried to contact me just try it again. My inbox only has about 12 messages total so I can definitely still receive messages.

Have a good night!

TTFN :tigger:

 Just got interrupted by DH wanting some guidelines on what he should and shouldn't eat. He lost 9 pounds in the same time I lost 3. :headache: Men stink some times!

This also just sparked a discussion about our meal at ABC Commissary on our last trip and how we would have been better off eating the soles of our shoes or begging scraps from others. It was without a doubt the WORST meal we have ever had on Disney property. We were desperate, it was pouring down rain and my scooter was having issues so I needed to plug it in to charge for awhile. This was the only option that was indoors and had outlets so I could plug in. But the food was dreadful! DH said he would rather push me in my dead scooter in the rain than eat there again!

it's not fair that men lose faster :( I totally ageee on the ABC Worst -MEAL- EVER :( p.s thanks for the tutorial on Multi- quoting -

Good luck on the Everest! I really think I can walk a 15 minute mile.. But I want to at least Jog it :)
I am going to work on the couch25K everyone is talking about. I did some reading today and it made sense. I even have a few friend who haven't :rotfl2: when I told them! I think I may become addicted to jogging at least :)

I am going into a store that specializes in running stuff, but I am sure they want to sell me a $500 zillion dollar shoe.. I know I have a wide fat foot so it may be hard and I need a seamless inside so I am waiting to hear what everone suggests too!

Happy Birthday phorsenuf!!!!! hope you had a great day!

1/9/11 Sunday QOTD: If you were at Disneyland or Disney World today what you would you be doing right now?
getting fast passes for Test Track or Toy story mania :)

We spent the day with the Mouse yesterday. DH took a wrong turn and we ended up at Epcot parking. Right during the 1/2 marathon.... It was really awesome to watch! it was inspiring watching everbody of all shapes & sizes, ages ( we saw a couple that had to be in their late 60's running!) we got on the monorail and waved at everyone running as we were on our way to MK. The people running were yelling hi,waving back and everyone was so happy.
It was a PERFECT day yesterday- not too hot or cold
MK was empty in the a.m. & we walked right onto Big thunder, pirates, haunted mansion. The only thing we got a fast pass for was buzz. it got a bit crowded around noon in fantasy land. so we decided to leave.

we then hopped back to Epcot and it was cleared out. had fun roaming world showcase.
I was able to snack on fruit yesterday and I always take my allergy free crackers & pretzels. We ate in Epcot at Sunshine seasons. we walked the world showcase 2 X -so I got some exercise
around 4:30 we decided to head to DTD and we had a late dinner at Wolfgang pucks express. They will make meal I can eat there (a salad type thing with chicken.)

Watching the 1/2 marathon, I really got motivated and inspired! seeing people who were of all shapes and sizes competing really helped me realize with hard work anyone can do this and you don't have to be 6 foot tall & a bean pole to participate.

Lucky Lady!! That is some great incentive to get running!

If I was at Disneyland right now I would be sleeping or maybe getting ready for MM (Magic Morning -- DL version of EMH) but I can't remember if they have those on Sunday.

If I was at WDW I would be almost done with running the Princess half -- like I will be in six short weeks! princess:

Enjoy your Sunday folks! :goodvibes

You must be getting excited about the Princess half!! How goes the training?

>1/9/11 Sunday QOTD: If you were at Disneyland or Disney World today what you would you be doing right now?<<

Well I'll technically be there in about 5 hours for work- but if it was a play day (which tomorrow is :)) I'd be at DAK prob riding the safari taking pictures- If I was at DLR.. Checking out all the construction walls and mourning the loss of the Letters at DCA

Are they removing those big letters that say CALIFORNIA between the two parks??? :sad2: I LOVE those letters!

any recommendations for running shoes? I know everyone has there favorites but I could use some steering in the right direction. I have a high arch if that helps, I used to wear Nike all the time growing up.

Fwiw, I really prefer Ryka and Aasic brand shoes.... but I am FAR from an expert.

Well... just hopping on to say good night! Talk to you all tomorrow.........P

1/9/11 Sunday QOTD: If you were at Disneyland or Disney World today what you would you be doing right now?
I would be at MK, we would have had an early dinner at Crystal palace, and are meandering around, digesting our dinner, maybe doing buzz and carousel of progress, before we head back to splash and btr. We'll take it easy since it's EMH, and michael loves to stay as late as possible.
Now on my next trip, I will have finished a nice mexican dinner, am sporting a shiny tiara medal, (hopefully) and am probably trying to stay away for illuminations!!

That is so cool. How exciting. It is so much more fun to get out and train when you are planning a disney race.

If I was at WDW I would be almost done with running the Princess half -- like I will be in six short weeks! princess:
Can you believe it???? I think it was about a year and a half ago, you said joking to me, "maybe one day we'll meet at wdw and do a race". OMG, we are doing it!!!!!

And I made it even better by getting the dreaded chore of Christmas tree removal done! And I decided NOT to procrastinate about packing up the ornaments and I did that last night as well.

As long as you have a journaling method that works for you, that is what counts.
I just put our tree out on the curb!!!!! Though it does make me a little sad. It was such a beautiful tree this year. Actually my journalling method does work for me, when I do it. It's the doing it faithfully that is my down fall, but not this time. I will be losing some weight for team Donald.

[ Dead Last Finish is greater than Did Not Finish which greatly trumps Did Not Start. WISH gave me the courage to get started! If I can do it at age 50, weighing in the 210's, anyone can do it! :goodvibes
ITA!!! I'll be 47, hopefully just under 200 pounds and we are going to do it!!

Speaking of the marathon, it is hard for me to believe that 6 years ago, I was at WDW for the WISH Walkers Inaugural marathon/half-marathon. This was the first year that I recall a concerted effort on the DIS to have a group participate. It was a wonderful weekend where I got to meet so many great people. I am in awe of how the DIS participation has grown in 6 years!
Wow, that is so cool you were there for the first Wish event. I don't think I have ever "met" so many nice and supportive people as are here. I am so excited to actually meet some in person next month.

So I signed up for the Royal Family 5K next month and after my run today am wondering if I set my "carrot" too low but I don't know if the Princess 1/2 is too high of a "carrot" to reach... Today I ran 3 miles in 35 minutes and while tired I'm not exhausted. I'm currently running every 3rd day adding a mile each time.
I think Lisa and Rose gave you some good advice. I think many people would say that you could do it, and it sounds like you are already doing 3 miles at a pretty fast rate, so I would agree. I have read about others who haven't really trained and they pushed themselves to do a half. I know for me, I really needed this full year to get ready. Last february, when I started run/walking it took me an hour to do 3 miles, and I'm still at 14-15 min miles. You know yourself better than anyone. If you are dedicated and put the time into it, you could probably do it. Good luck with what you decide. Hope we will meet you in february, either way.

any recommendations for running shoes? I know everyone has there favorites but I could use some steering in the right direction. I have a high arch if that helps, I used to wear Nike all the time growing up.

If you have a running store nearby, it is worth it to go in and get fitted for some shoes. Even if they just evaluate you and make some recommendations, and you get the shoes elseware, especially with a high arch. We have the New England Running co nearby and when I first went it took a good long time, they watched me walk in my socks, and checked my arch, and they they brought a bunch of shoes out, I'd try them, I'd walk first, and they'd watch, if I was pronating or supinating, they'd them right off, the next pair if it looked good walking, we'd go out in the parking lot and jog so they could watch. The shoes I got ended up being 95$. I didn't think that was too bad. I think fleet feet is a national co that has a good rep. I do think it was a great investment for me. I have a friend with a hip issue and she goes there for her shoes too, and she's been pain free since then. It's amazing how much the support of our feet affects the rest of our joints, knees, hips, back. If one thing is out of alignment, it can affect so much.

I am going into a store that specializes in running stuff, but I am sure they want to sell me a $500 zillion dollar shoe.. I know I have a wide fat foot so it may be hard and I need a seamless inside so I am waiting to hear what everone suggests too!
I hope you're surprised and they are good in your store, and find you the right shoe for way less than 500 zillion dollars. Funny, I didn't even look at prices before I found the shoe, and was happy that mine was less than 100.

party:Happy BIrthday Phorsenuf!!party:

Good evening everyone!!

I had a good day. I was on call and got called in for an early case, so was able to make it to my aunt's brunch b-day, and was very proud of myself for what I ate. I had a big plate of fruit, and then some small amounts of potatoes, eggs, and bacon, and brocolli. After the brunch, I went to the gym to run/walk on the treadmill, but had forgotten to change into my running bra, so I only did 2 miles. For anyone looking to start jogging, a good high-impact bra is worth its weight in gold.:rotfl:

I'm off to do a quick vacuuming before we watch the new Hannah Montana.

Have a wonderful evening.

1/9/11 Sunday QOTD: If you were at Disneyland or Disney World today what you would you be doing right now?

Probably eating a nice dinner in Epcot with illuminations to follow.

1/9/11 Sunday QOTD: If you were at Disneyland or Disney World today what you would you be doing right now?

I would be sitting on main street waiting for the Main street Electrical Light Parade I saw it for the first time in DL on our honeymoon. We have seen it at DW. when ds was there this summer he brought me back a video of the parade. I have it on my computer.

If there is no parade we would be walking around the Mk. Maybe ride BTM and Splash which is fun to ride during the fireworks and see them from the mountains. But one of my favorite memories is riding Dumbo as the castle changed color. It was one of the last rides of the night.

1/9 QOTD: well, im a little late for today...so..whats still going on.. EMH at MK. Yeah. That's it. :) Probably just walking around, taking it all in. :)

I've decided to plan out all my breakfast/lunch/snacks for the week tonight..hoping that'll pay off by friday!

1/9/11 Sunday QOTD: If you were at Disneyland or Disney World today what you would you be doing right now?

I would be relaxing back at the resort after a fun filled day at the Magic Kingdom.

This weekend went okay. I did a little exercise yesterday, mostly stretching. Today I had a lazy day and watched movies with my mom. Food choices could have been better. Yesterday I was so hungry I thought nothing could keep me full, even after drinking large amounts of water. Today everything is back to normal.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Good luck on the Everest! I really think I can walk a 15 minute mile.. But I want to at least Jog it :)

I hear week 3 is the hardest, I had just gotten there when I was sidelined with Planters Factitious, so I've had to start from scratch.

Fwiw, I really prefer Ryka and Aasic brand shoes.... but I am FAR from an expert.

I found a pair of Asics online that I like. I actually found 2, an off road pair and a street pair. I figure I'll get the street for now and switch off in the spring.

NE Running is a bit far from me but doable. I did find a store in Brookfield CT but it's just as far as NE Running. I'll have to see if DH will take a road trip with me, I hate driving in Mass.! LOL Thanks for the tip!
I don't mind $100 if it's for good shoes. DS14 should probably get better shoes then he has too.

ETA: I found a Fleet Feet in Hartford! That's a little closer.

Good Monday morning I can't believe that the weekend is over.

Got up and did my 20 minutes of exercise. Just getting some breakfast and then off to a busy day. I only have 1 week until my student teacher comes so I have to get my classroom ready.

I can't believe we are getting more snow tomorrow afternoon. We have to go to a retirement reception tomorrow night. Hope you people in the south are safe. Drive carefully down there.

Have to go. Sorry it couldn't be longer.

Have a happy and healthy day.

DH said to me could you do a 5 K?? I said well I can walk 3 miles But have no idea how fast. So he told me If I can and work up to it and do a 15 minute mile he will buy me the shoes I need and he will spring for the halloween 5 K in October for me. and If I keep going he will spring for the 2012 Princess 1/2. this includes staying at the world etc..
HOW VERY EXCITING!!!!!

I have a formula to track how many calories you burn for activity from the Biggest Loser competition I did at the gym last fall. I will find it and post it later today. Thanks for posting the muscle vs. fat pics and encouragement!
Sounds like a good piece of information to have, when you get a chance to share it! You know that's my favorite picture! :lmao:

Did my running shoe buying at Fleet Feet. I knew I was meant to go there when I walked in and saw the sign that said "A good pair of shoes can change your life - Cinderella!" They are VERY thorough, be prepared. They measure your foot, instep, arch, etc, etc, etc. Hope you don't mind people touching your feet, I have a bit of an issue with that that made the experience a bit creepy! Also got a great running bra there, too! They had me walk in the shoes in the store, and then had me run outside in them and he watched me. I love my shoes! They were less than $100. They are big on inserts there, with your PF history that might be a good thing. I use mine for walking in my shoes, but they bother me to run in them.

Morning ALL! When I sent Dh to work this am, felt like I was sending him to the wolves! Snow day here:banana: so I have lots of time to lift him up from home!

HAVE A WONdERful Monday!

Goood morning TEAM DONALD!

Hope that everyone had a great week-end is raring to go this week! :flower3:

We are getting into the nitty gritty of the start of this challenge. All the newness and excitement of a our new lifestyle is starting to wear off, it's cold and dark outside, and our bodies don't want to move -- they want to hibernate! And our families, our bosses and coworkers, and countless other folks in our life seems to be doing their best to show us that our best laid plans can go awry in the blink of an eye. So what do we need to do to keep ourselves moving in the right directions? Use some of our tools to keep us heading toward our goals.

Here is an article from sparkpeople.com (where else? ;))

10 Strategies for Success

1. Start Small
Quite possibly the biggest mistake people make is pushing the accelerator too soon. You can’t lose 20 pounds in a week. But you can lose one. Taking small bites and chewing slowly have as much to do with goal achievement as they do with your mom’s dinner table scolding.

2. Get It On Paper
Whether setting your first goals, tracking daily progress, or sharing your deepest thoughts with a journal, writing things down crystallizes your ideas, exposes underlying fears, and paints an accurate picture of real life.

3. Focus On Everyday Habits
The building blocks of a healthy lifestyle are forged in the smallest of actions you take every day and every week. Healthy choices can become as natural as brushing your teeth or locking the front door. Build one habit, one action at a time.

4. Always See Your Goal
Goals need attention. They need to be seen and heard and thought of often if they ever hope to come true. So surround yourself with as many reminders as possible.

5. Be Consistent
Imagine a plane taking off. In the beginning, a lot of energy is spent to simply get moving down the runway. But as speed and momentum take over, the plane is pulled forward and up into the sky, faster and further by the second. Consistent action, no matter how small, has more power than you ever imagined.

6. Never Stop Learning
A healthy lifestyle is a process—a journey more than a destination. You can always learn more about nutrition, fitness, and even yourself that can help you be just a little bit better tomorrow.

7. Come Out of Seclusion
Has anyone ever achieved anything of real value all alone? Probably not many. Most receive some form of help from other people. Support, information, a sense of shared experience, encouragement, advice, and a well-timed pep talk are all invaluable as you set off on your adventure.

8. Allow For Setbacks
Accept the fact right now that you will make mistakes, and that it can be a positive thing. We are usually harder on ourselves that we are on anyone else we know. Be your own #1 fan. That means being supportive (instead of critical) when you stumble, and enjoying your wins (rather than ignoring your accomplishments) when you succeed.

9. Trust Your Plan
You’ll have up weeks and down weeks, and frustrating weeks that make no sense at all. The tools and strategies you’re learning will help you build a plan that makes a healthier lifestyle almost inevitable. If you consistently make the right choices and build healthy habits, weight loss is literally just a matter of time.

10. Have Fun!!!
Who says getting healthy has to be a chore, a burden to be endured or suffered through? Probably a very unhappy person, that’s who. This is an exciting adventure of self-discovery and building a meaningful life. Enjoy the ride!

Which leads me to the QOTD for today.

Be back in a bit with replies

Happy Birthday to Disneyluvr & skmommy!!!!!

Hope you both have a fabulous day!!!!

1/10/11 Monday QOTD: Which strategy helps you reach your weight loss goals?

To me, it is utilizing plenty of social supports. The main strategy I use is to surround myself with other people who are trying to lose weight. That way, we all pack our lunches instead of eating out, we compare notes, we work out together and help each other through the rough spots. I'm very easily talked into going out to eat or not exercising, so it is important to me to have the right kind of support. That's why Team Donald is so important to me. I don't post much, but I read this thread every single time I get on the computer. You guys are fabulous!

On another note, I had a nice surprise last night. Got an e-mail from the school district I work at stating that we are CLOSED for today! I have the whole day to myself to do whatever I want!

Have a wonderful day, all!

eta: Happy Birthday to Disneyluvr & skmommy!
