TEAM DONALD--Biggest Loser 11 Spring Team Challenge

So my QOTD is this:
1/8/11 Saturday QOTD: How would you rate your "diet rage"?
Low- I'm moving slowly, but I'm on my way!
Moderate- Everyone's moving except me
High- I'm screaming but no one can hear me!
All Over The Board- It's stop and go all the way

I'd have to say Moderate. Don't feel like I'm having the same success as some of you right now, but still hopeful that will turn around soon...

We're in need of some serious PPD (prayers and pixie dust).
Taryn

Sending lots of good thoughts your way. Hope this finds a way to turn itself around.

I did download the sparkpeople food tracker app, but I need to get it on my phone.

With recommendations I got here on the board, I got the sparkpeople app for my droid last night and I have to say, I'm pretty impressed. There is a large data base of food to select, and it tracks everything for you! Give it a try.

I got a good night sleep last night (sleeping off the pounds, right?). Had breakfast and did 30 min on the wii fit this morning. Hoping to keep up the HH through the weekend...

FlipFlopMom: I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I will definitely keep you all in my prayers. Has your husband gone to HR himself and talked to them? Maybe he should and bring up that he has a great track record with the company. If that doesn't work, I would maybe try to talk to corporate. Why would his boss want to get rid of him?

I had something similar happen to me once. I went from one week being told by the owners of the restaurant I was their best server to the next week being suspended for two weeks by the assistant manager (who used to use lots of profanity over the internal email whenever talking to us) for not doing sidework properly. Even though nobody had said a word to me before this and I had nto received training on any of it. We think they were worried that I would try to file workers' comp for a knee problem that I was to be having surgery for. I ended up leaving and going back to my previous job in a grocery store.

BernardandMissBianca: I use the Weight Watchers journal to track. To start out with, I write everything that I put in my mouth. That is what I am doing this week. No worrying about points, just writing everything down to get into the habit. If it goes in my mouth, I write it. My leader calls them the BLTs (Bites, Licks, and Tasstes). It's amazing how they add up. AFter a week of simply writing everything down, I am going to start actually tracking points.

QOTD: I'm definately in the "All over the board" category. Of course I know exactly what I need to do to improve my "rage quotiant" but I just haven't gotten the motivation. Why is it that during the week I can think of a ton of things that I need to do on the weekend, but once the weekend hits i just want to sit around and laze the day away?

FlipFlopMom: I'm so sorry to hear about your husbands situation. Did anyone else get written up? Maybe you can spend some time this weekend updating his resume and starting to look around for open positions. At least if you do that you will feel a little more in control and prepared should the worse happen. Keep us updated. I'll be sending good thoughts your way.

Question about tracking.

Since I've never really tracked before how do I start? Do you write food and drinks down? Or just food? Do you write serving sizes, calories, fat grams etc? I'm not really sure what to do an how in-depth to get.

I did download the sparkpeople food tracker app, but I need to get it on my phone.

I do know I want to write down the times I eat. We are creatures of habit so I want to see what pattern I follow for good eating and bad eating.

I track everything I eat or drink. When I started doing this I was amazed at how many extra calories I was taking in, especially when I counted milk in my coffee, honey in my tea, a cracker from one of my kids afternoon snack, etc.

Different programs chart differently, the one I use will search for known foods or let me put in ones and put the calorie amount in.

I use myfitnesspal.com instead of spark. It also has a phone app. I really like it and its pretty easy to use.

QOTD: umm....slow. I've been tracking food and have worked out every day, but i still feel like im not making the best food choices.

QOTD - I range from low some days to moderate others. THis is a great question!

Tarryn - I am SO sorry to hear about your husbands job and will keep you and your husband and family in my thoughts. It's so tough to deal with that and a boss like that makes it impossible!

Tracey - I'm very sorry, I did put team donald on my weight Friday but I did not on the initial weight on the 1st.

To those o you who lost 11 pounds this week, WOW! COngratulations!

Getting a jump on tomorrow! Here's a list of those who have yet to send in weigh ins this week! Reminder that all weigh ins must be in by Monday night at 7:30pm EST!

Taryn, sending tons of prayers, and pixiedust: your way.

I am a teacher, so I do that snow day dance right along with the kiddos. LOL

:woohoo: for the snow day dance!

I fixed it it should say 11 pounds. My keys have been sticking a lot on my laptop. Thanks for pointing that out!!!!

Thanks, Tracey! :goodvibes

I would love see what others are planning for their menus. I need to tweak mine for this week.

Tomorrow we are having Beef Daube Provencal from Cooking Light. I will cook it in the oven although you can also use the crockpot -- 347 cal. http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&recipe_id=10000000780341

And Monday or Tuesday it is Chicken Puttanesca with Angel Hair Pasta from Cooking Light. 530 cal but only 21% fat. http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&recipe_id=10000001646406

The rest of the week it is using things in the freezer. :cool2:

Yay for those who lost 11 pounds! :cheer2:

:yay:

Made it thru yesterday with no sewage pump problems. Actually got some sleep last night.

Hallelujah for new sewage pump problems! :littleangel:

I am now at a point that it really matters to me, and I want to make the right choices - so massive losses aren't what I'm aiming at anyway. I want this to be a permanent solution.

So true! And you've done a ton of cooking today so lots of time to exercise when you have that whole month's worth of food to enjoy! :flower3:

Wow what a great QOTD!!:thumbsup2

I guess I wander from Low, becuase of the 11 lbs this week but I do know at some point I will it's gonna hit High:rotfl2:

I just know the plateau will hit and if I can get through that part I may be just fine. If it last too long I will def be All Over The Board

Great job on the 11 pounds! :worship:

If it wasn't for sparkpeople I wouldn't be able to coach at all! ;)

I know you can do it!:thumbsup2 If you can do 7 today the 1/2 is yours. I was so scared I would be last across the finish line but when the time came I was so pumped. The adrenaline and the other runners will carry you easily.

Oh bless you for saying this! It makes me feel so much better when I hear stories like this! :goodvibes

you need to come back over. One of the girls is from WA and she was asking where abouts you were.

Thanks! I will go and say hi and see what other cool stuff you guys did! :cool2:

Question about tracking.

I believe that it was pjlla who taught me the mantra -- if you bite it, write it! :thumbsup2

:goodvibes Lisa, I think it would be abnormal if you weren't a little scared!:goodvibes It's going to be so much fun!

Well, especially since when you consider how totally out of character this whole thing is for me! ;)

I'd have to say Moderate. Don't feel like I'm having the same success as some of you right now, but still hopeful that will turn around soon....

You can do it! :cheer2:

'Cause you need rest after working so hard! :flower3:

50sjayne, where are you? :welcome: to our team! I thought I was going to have to go looking for you! :rolleyes1

popping in for just a sec. We are hosting a virtual crop on the crafts board. It's actually moving faster then a BL thread!!! LOL

I hope everyone has a great weekend!!!
I'm waiting for DH to get home from DC. He's in CT but 95 is really slick, he saw 2 Tractor trailers slide out already. I told him if he had to stop for the night even though he's so close to home.

Ooooh.... a virtual crop... wish I had known about that! I haven't been around much on the scrapping board lately... life has been crazy.

I hope (and assume at this point) that DH got home safely.

First off, Tigger, sorry, I'll resend you my weight with MY team name this time.

Sorry folks, I've been gone for the past few days. I've been busy with work and life at home. I'm proud of myself for continuing to work out each day, even though I haven't hit the boards. I've also been eating well and HAVE not had any Coke at all this week. WOW. I did have to have coffee, yuck ( sorry to you coffee drinkers ) to get going this morning. I still have headaches, some more intense than others.

A little disappointed on the scale was hoping for a bigger drop. But not discouraged, gonna keep plugging away at it each day. One more work out to go tomorrow and then I'll rest on Sunday.

Thanks everyone for being here.

Good job eliminating the Coke. If it helps, think of how awful it is for your body, not just the sugar and caffeine, but the other chemicals. Think of it as drinking something akin to poison.... that should make it easy to avoid!

Looks like we had some good numbers this week for TEAM DONALD!

I'm popping on the post the QOTD for tomorrow a little early so you east coast folks will have it in the am and I will be back tomorrow for replies.

As you think back on where you are in your journey to good health and where we are in the challenge, it doesn't hurt to think about your past forays in the area.

Here is an article from sparkpeople.com that might interest you:

Do You Suffer from Diet Rage?
Rules of the Road to Help You Reach Your Destination

-- By Mike Kramer, Staff Writer

After slowing down to an unexplained stop for the 147th time in the space of 2 miles, I decided that I hated the world. Surrounding me were an ocean of maddening brake lights, rain pelting the windshield and thousands of tons of steel and fiberglass flung around by a clueless pack of selfish morons who obviously didn’t know the first thing about driving!!

It was in serious danger of ruining my whole day.

Is there anything more frustrating than being bogged down in traffic? Most all of us have been there before. That discouraged, fed up feeling that just makes us want to throw up our hands in surrender or lay them on the horn.

Thankfully, I stopped muttering helplessly and started thinking instead. And I realized that I often witness another type of "road rage" – the frustration that builds on the road to weight loss: Diet Rage.

Think about your dieting history. Does it give you the same feeling as an exasperating traffic jam? You never quite get where you want to go as fast as you want to get there. You get aggravated, yell (usually at yourself), and see people in other lanes going faster than you (how do they DO that?!), and it usually ends up ruining your day.

Here’s the lesson: Getting frustrated with your diet does no more good than getting frustrated in traffic. It just makes you unhappy, unsuccessful and tense.

By the time I got to work (it was a long commute), I noticed a lot of things that we, as weight loss veterans, can learn from traffic jams. Next time you start to feel frustrated with your weight loss progress, keep these "lessons of the road" in mind:

Pay less attention to how much further you have to travel. Stop asking yourself "are we there yet?" You’ll get there when you get there. Instead, look at the scenery, think about life, carry on a conversation, sing along with the radio, or simply be thankful for how far you’ve come.

The journey is always more fun with a passenger. Have you asked anyone along for the ride?

You know the route you need to take to reach your weight loss goals. It’s already mapped out. As long as you stay pointed in the right direction, you’ll get there. Even in the worst traffic jams, you still get to your destination at some point. It’s the same way with dieting – just a matter of time. It may take longer than you first expected, but you will get there.

There will always be periods of stopping and starting. It’s something that you should just anticipate and allow for. No use getting upset or stressed about not making progress. It’s a normal part of the journey.

Sometimes, you’ve just gotta go with the flow of what’s going on around you. Life can present some situations that you really can’t do anything about. When that happens, staying straight and steady – doing the best that you can – will keep you on track and sane. In traffic, impatient people stop, change lanes, weave in and out of other cars, driving themselves and everyone else crazy – and in the end, usually don’t get any farther along than you do by staying put and going with the flow.

Shortcuts never work.
Driving too fast is dangerous. That’s why they call it "crash" dieting. Slow down, take what life gives you, and make sure you arrive at your destination in good health.

I finally did get to my destination after all. Hands were pried away from the steering wheel, teeth were unclenched, and a few aspirin were popped. Of course, people in the cars around me probably had a good laugh at my arm-waving and soundless yelling. Funny how we can lose our senses when faced with something that frustrates us, whether it’s traffic or our diets.

Thanks to these insights, my story had a happy ending. Hopefully, remembering these rules will help you reach your destination sooner – and more content – than you expected.

Here is the link to the article http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/motivation_articles.asp?id=346 Within this link are some good ideas about relaxing, too.

Have a great evening all!

That is a GREAT article and a wonderful QOTD!! Thanks for taking so much time with it.

I would say, at this point, I would rate "low". I have been all over the board with it at any point over the last few years, but after all this time I have kind of settled into LOW most of the time. That's not to say that I don't occasionally have a moment of HIGH when things don't go just like I would want them to.

Great article!!

I'd say right now I'm a High. But I'm not yelling at other people I've yelling at me. Like why can't I grasp the concept, ya know. I'm trying to constantly remind myself that I didn't get here overnight so I'm not going back overnight either. It's just tough some days.
Right now I'm stuck in bumper to bumper I-95 traffic but some day I'll hit the open road Thelma and Louise style!

But you won't finish like Thelma and Louise, right?? :rotfl:

Way to go on the 2.5 pounds!
I hadn't thought about it until tonight!!!:lmao: I am trying to cut out as much of the processed foods, but I was left kind of :confused3 tonight. I did find some hamburger meat and made some Taco Soup.

Actually, if you look around, there are some pretty good natural frozen meals out there. Amy's is one brand and Kashi is another. Similar to LC and WW Smart Ones, but healthier. And I have gone so far as to make up my own individual frozen meals when I have had leftovers.

Hey guys, just stopping in to beg.

We're in need of some serious PPD (prayers and pixie dust). As some of you know, DH's boss is....less than easy to get along with. After a rough week, he put DH on a nearly impossible "plan of improvement" last night with a huge list of tasks/accomplishments/guidlines to be met every hour, many of which depend on people other than him to do their job better. 2 misses within 90 days and he will be fired. Which means that he could lose his job Monday. This comes as a shock, with no previous disciplinary "write ups", etc, basically, the boss is out for him. I am terrified beyond words, shaking as I type. Jobs are VERY scearce here, and being terminated would make him ineligible for unemployment.

If I'm not around much, forgive me.
Taryn

PM sent.

 I would like to know who I talk to to have a law passed that no activity on a Saturday can start before 9am. DD had to be up at the high school at 7:30am for band thing. We are NOT 7:30am on Saturday people! DH is still in bed and I should be but figured I should get some things done instead. I think there is a definitely a nap in my near future.

We consider 7:30 am on a Saturday a LATE start!! :lmao: On non-meet weekends DD has swim practice at 5:45 am(which means we are up at 5 to leave the house at 5:15 am) For swim meets and basketball games and robotics tournaments, I have been known to be up as early as 3:30!! Good thing I'm a morning person! (That said, any time that starts with a "3" in the am is just WAAAAY too early!)

When I (re-) started WW this time around, I made sure I wrote down EVERYTHING, including water and gum! Every bite, every nibble. It helped me really see what I was consuming. That way, if I had a bad week (or a particularly good week) on the scale, I could accurately look back and see where I needed to make a change. I also measured EVERYTHING!! (well, not zero point veggies.) Over time I have stopped writing down my water quantities. I still write "water" or "seltzer" in, but just not the portion. I know that, for the most part, I drink at least 3 lts. a day, so I don't worry much about it. But other than that I still write EVERYTHING (or at least I try to). And I still measure/weigh most portions. It has just become a good habit.

Honestly.... I write everything. Zero point tea with splenda... I write it. A random Lifesaver..... I write it. Spoonful of cookie dough.... I write it (and then get horrified at how many points it is! ) Black coffee.... I write it (and I often write down whether it was regular or decaf).

I also track all of my exercise minutes/miles. And I often make note of where I was that day, if it was something unusual. Like if I spent the weekend at an away swim meet or at a robotics tournament. Or if I was running around taking DH to the hospital or super busy cleaning the basement. And if I am having health issues, digestive issues, or a cold, I make note of that too.... just so that when I look back I have an accurate understanding of that entire day/week.

Okay.... I suppose I'm a little OCD with my journaling. But honestly, after 3 years it has become a good easy habit. I keep my journal in the same spot on the kitchen counter all the time (but it does travel with me when I go away). I have developed my own form of shorthand for most things that I eat frequently. It probably takes me a grand total of 5-10 minutes per day to keep this up to date. And yes, I have kept them ALL! Every notebook I have completed for the past 3 years. Don't ask me what I'm ever gonna do with them... but I can't bring myself to toss them! Maybe I'll have a ceremonial burning of them to celebrate 5 years of maintenance (when I ever get there.. :rolleyes1 ).

Evening friends! Imagine that.... I am on here TWICE today!! It was a good day for this family. DS's b.ball team won a close game by one point! And DD qualified for high school States in her 100 freestyle. We made it safely through snow to and from DS's game about 75 minutes away, so that was good too. And the Christmas tree is history! I've still gotta pack up the remaining ornaments, but the tree, lights, and popcorn strings are gone, the floor is vacuumed and the furniture is rearranged.

I managed to send the remaining goodies from last night with DD to share with swim friends today, so the only treat left is the ice cream cake. I stayed low on my points today so I could splurge on a piece tonight. Hopefully I can forget about it after that!

Well... I've gotta run and check the swim schedule for tomorrow. Not sure what time DD is due at the pool. If it is afternoon, perhaps we will make it to church in the a.m. TTYL.......................P

This came up on the Mickey thread so I wanted to share it with you as well:

Got it!!!! My nephew is a freshman at UNC Chapel Hill! He loves to paint himself blue!!!! Been on tv and on the local news websites! Went back to school this afternoon from Christmas break!!!!

Have a great night to my Donald friends! My dad's favorite character is Donald so you all have a special place in my heart! ;) I've made him several Donald (and Carl from UP) shirts from the Disign threads. He wears them all the time!!!!

Hi Team Donald! If you have a birthday in February or March and would like to be added to our birthday list on the first page, please send me a pm. (I asked for January earlier, but I am happy to still add in any January birthdays I missed.:goodvibes)

Good and bad for today. I found my scrapbook desk! :woohoo: It has been buried under several feet of "stuff" that has been collecting there for the last few months.

But I also found a bunch of goodies in the pile and kind of, sort of, ate some of them. :sad2: Not good.:headache:

But I spent about 30 minutes vacuuming and then carpet cleaning the really dirty nasty carpet in the traffic area and am now exhausted and sweaty so I am thinking that I can count that as exercise. Maybe that effort burned off the stupid calories I shouldn't have eaten.:guilty:

I think vacuuming and cleaning definitely count as exercise...you said you got sweaty, right??? Sometimes we forget to count our day to day activities, like trips up and down the stairs, heavy cleaning, shoveling snow, etc. Not saying that should be our only exercise, but it might help us feel better about doing our "chores" if we realize we're benefiting from them.

The rest of the week it is using things in the freezer. :cool2:

We love Beef Daube!!!! DH would have it every week. There is another stew on Cooking Light you might like. It's called Beef and Guinness Stew. The gravy is outstanding and the parsnips make the stew. It was the first time I had every eaten parsnips. LOL It's made with Draught (on the sweet side) and not the Stout. http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&recipe_id=10000001963989

Tonight we made our own pizza's. I used Cooking Light's pizza sauce recipe - and used tomatos we had canned in August. We each had our own individual crust - we made the dough - and I put chicken, red peppers, tomatos and 27 grams of mozzarella cheese on my pizza. LOL Had a side salad to help get in those vegies. It was tasty - about 600 calories for the whole meal - and I don't feel deprived at all.

Hope everything works out for your DH!:goodvibes

Today my son begins auditions for summer intensives and its the first time we arent schlepping him to Chicago and back every weekend. I miss being there for the excitement and anticipation of the process, but am glad we don't have to do all the driving. Just have to share one of his audition pics!

That was a great picture of your son!

I'm out of time, so no more comments other than keep up the great attitude everybody! :goodvibes

I counted milk in my coffee, honey in my tea, a cracker from one of my kids afternoon snack, etc.

ARGH, I didn't even think about that. I always add milk and sugar to my tea. But it's a dollop here and splosh there.

I believe that it was pjlla who taught me the mantra -- if you bite it, write it! :thumbsup2

Oh I like this motto!!! I want to cover my food journal and this will be the title!!

Ooooh.... a virtual crop... wish I had known about that! I haven't been around much on the scrapping board lately... life has been crazy.

First Friday night of every month. And maybe a few 12 hour day crops.
I'll keep you posted on the times

I hope (and assume at this point) that DH got home safely.

Yes he did. It took him twice as long as usual but he made it home in one piece.

But you won't finish like Thelma and Louise, right?? :rotfl:

Me, go out in a blaze of Glory??? You bet your sweet boppy I will if I'm given 1/2 a chance!!!!

My motto from now on:
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body. But rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting, "WOOHOO!! What a ride!!"

When I (re-) started WW this time around, I made sure I wrote down EVERYTHING, including water and gum! Every bite, every nibble. It helped me really see what I was consuming. :rolleyes1 ).

a little OCD??? LOL J/K!!!
Will you please come here and follow me around all day to write down what I do?
AHHHHH!!! The food stuff is sooooo hard!!! I swear there are times when I eat and then forget I ate. I'm like I need lunch, and then a few minutes later I'm like wait, I ate lunch an hour ago. Gotta make this a top priority!!

Hi everyone!

Just joined yesterday, and I'm so psyched to find this thread! OK, here are my answers.....

1. Rang in the New Year quietly with dinner and a movie with my girlfriend followed by a small celebration with my sister and her husband.

2. HObbies include golf, golf, and more golf (you would think I would be in better shape with allthe walking that I do on the course! No more junk food at the turn, that's for sure!).

3. Easily the MK, just walking around and seeing all of the smiling faces would be enough for me!

4. If you're talking aerobic exercise, it's basketball. I haven't played in years, which is one of my major goals this winter....to be able to run up and down the court again for more than a minute without sucking wind!

5. Well, I joined up here, that's a start!

6. For me, nothing suprises me. It's all about portion control for me.

7. Moderate to high for me!
