Team 8 Jessica's Rabbits Bios and Info

Swim-mom--that's very, very good news. I'm glad for you.

Martha--what the heck?? No one answered when you called 911? That has got to be the ultimate rejection! ;) I'm so glad you're ok. I know how stressful those times can be. Hope you can get back out to training soon.

Liz--how did your 5K go today?

Teri--wow, you must have been smokin' the course at the Minnie. Good job! And bummer that you had to come back from vacation. It's so hard to get in the groove after vacation, isn't it?

Craig--so glad that all the stress of the semester is behind you. Hope you and Martha are doing well.

Scott--kickin' up our miles total. I like it. Nice job, man!

Before I forget, here are my miles for May 8-14:

81 miles (like Scott, yay bike!)
8.25 hours

Ok, I need you guys to tell me if I'm crazy. Ever since I bought my new bike, I've been looking for excuses to push the limits on the thing. Well, I'm somewhat targeting a half ironman (not an "official" Ford 70.3, but a half ironman distance race) in Columbus in September. The problem is, it's smack dab in the middle of my training for Marine Corps in October. How stupid would it be to try to fit in this race in September? I've mapped out a high level training plan, and on paper it looks do-able, but anything looks do-able on paper. :) So is that a stupid plan? And seriously, tell me if it is. Don't pull a, "Hey, that's a great plan, Steve!" if it really is one of the dumbest things you've heard.

Hope everyone's having a good weekend. I managed to get out for a 56 mile bike today. Legs feel pretty decent. Oh, oh. I almost forgot. I need to tell you what happened to me on my ride today. I was out on my road bike (I'm not ready for 56 miles on the tt bike yet), and I was on one of our local bike trails around 35 miles into my ride. It was a flat trail and I was spinning along around 19 mph. Well, I came up on a woman riding her tt bike, in the aero bars, doing about 16 mph. So I called out, "On your left" and said good morning as I passed her. About a half mile later, I slowed to pass a dad with his two kids on the trail, and when I started to go around them, I hear a screaming, "ON YOUR LEFT, MOVE OUT OF THE WAY!" It was the same woman, who apparently had suddenly discovered a burst of speed and blew by me on the very left of the trail (so the dad, his two kids, me and then her on the very left). Crazy woman rider. Anyway, I let her go and kept riding along around 18-19 mph. Another half mile, and she apparently couldn't keep her pace because I noticed I was creeping up on her. So as I approached, I once again moved to the left, passed and gave her an audible to let her know I was going past. Once again, I guess she couldn't stand to be passed by anyone, because sure enough, a half mile later she came blowing by me doing about 23 mph. Whatever , lady. So at this point, I'm coming up to the intersection where I planned to jump off the trail and make the 17 mile ride back home on regular roads. She came to the intersection about 50 meters ahead of me, had to wait for a car and unclipped from her pedals. I got up to the intersection and did the same. So she turns around, glares at me and says, "You know, it's illegal to draft!!" Excuse me??? There were so many things I could have said, and on the rest of my ride home, I thought of about 15 smart #@$ things I could have mentioned, but she really had me hacked at this point, so I just said, "Um, I haven't changed my speed in the last 10 miles. You really need to learn to control your cadence." She snapped back with a, "Whatever!" and rode off. Why must people be so rude? Actually, I can think of a better word than rude, but anyway...

Ok, I'm done. I just had to vent. Other than that, it's been a great weekend. I hope you all are having the same. Good luck training and hope you guys have a good week. And by the way, Krista and I are reminding everyone right now that on the January marathon weekend, we're getting another team picture taken with all of us there. We were both jealous of the Minnie pictures! :)

Talk to you all soon!

Steve

Swim-Mom: AWESOME news! You must be flying. So scary but I'm glad it's ended well. Wonderful, wonderful news.

Thanks for the thoughts folks. I am doing much better. Taking Thursday off was exactly what I needed to do and it worked wonders. Yesterday I went to the gym and did a muscle conditioning class and never felt anything in my neck. So, I think all is well at least with me.

Today is our 28th wedding anniversary. Our daughter's present to us is sunday brunch at The Four Seasons. We will head out in a couple hours. Isn't she the best!?

Hope everyone has a lovely day.

Hi you wild bunnies.

I'm sending over a new player for you. Please welcome Rich, Ryley26. He is an Ohio runner.

Hello to all I'm 42 years old started running 5 years ago to cut some weight. We had an annual race at WDW I didn't want to finish last so I started running. I'm now 130 pounds lighter and feel great. I have a wonderfull wife of who puts up with my running and Disney obsession. Two kids DD 13 and DS 11 both starting running for cross country this year. I've run 1 marathon 4 1/2 marathon and 6 10 k's . I run an average of 7.5 miles a day and bike another 15 miles 5 days when I can. Looking forward to talking to you all soon. Rich

Hi Rich - welcome to the group and we look forward to getting to know you better as well!

Steve - rude is the polite way of putting it! Sheesh! And don't you hate when you think of the really good come backs 10 min later.

As for me, it's been a painful and depressing weekend. Friday after work we went out to get in some bike miles before dinner. Got about 4.5 miles from the house on a new trail, stopped to figure out which way to go and that's when it - meaning me - came crashing down. Was first ride out on new bike with new toe clips and I got my right foot caught. Unfortunately the bike was starting to lean right so you can figure out what happened next. Wouldn't have been as bad however the ground there fell away to a drainage ditch so I fell about 1.5 feet off the path, into the ditch and landed on very hard, sharp large rock at the edge of the concrete sewer. Landed on the back of my right hip. Had to call an ambulance as once Patrick got the bike off of me and me off the rocks, I couldn't move my right leg w/o screaming.

Fortunately nothing is broken however when I move the wrong way (twist, try to lay down or get back up) it feels like something just under the skin is being torn apart. They said it's a really bad contusion so rest, ice, take the pain meds and it'll heal. Naturally for me that meant take meds then went out grocery shopping yesterday - paying for it today. Entire right side of back from mid rib cage down to hip is swollen. So now sitting here with ice and laptop. Not sure about work tomorrow.

Needless to say did not do the 5K or my bike event this weekend. Hoping to feel well enough by next weekend to do at least part of the 2 day bike ride.

So that's my drama for the weekend. How was everyone else's?

Rich

Welcome to the group. There is a nice mix in the Rabbits, and I'm confident you'll blend right in.

Liz

Ouch! Is all I can say. Be sure to let the thing heal before you jump back in full time. Ice, anti-inflammatories, and the medication your physician prescribed for you is the ticket. I think of drama as totally unnecessary dumb stuff, but this was totally unnecessary dangerous stuff. Good luck and think about long-term healthy goals for the next few days.

Steve

That's what I enjoyed so much about being of a soccer field. When a dope acted like that I'd be sure to give then something extra when our paths crossed.

Best

Craig

Oh Liz! I'm so sorry for you! That sounds so painful. I completely feel for you--I know that helpless feeling of starting to lose your balance after stopping when your feet are still clipped in and you have no where to go except the ground. I hope you can recover soon. I think you've earned a little time off. Make sure to let yourself heal!

Rich--welcome to the team! Great to have you here! Where in northern Ohio are you? Krista (my DW) and I are north of Cincy, so we're a few cornfields and that little town of Columbus away from you. :) Let me get this right--you're averaging 7.5 miles each day running and another gazillion biking every week? Yeah, you might put a lot of us to shame. Congrats on the weight loss and again, welcome!

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Steve

I'm from North Royalton which is 15 minutes south of Cleveland. My brother used to live near Cincy in Mason for two years. Just a couple of question we keep track of weekly run and bike miles but do you get extra points for races? Do weeks start on Sunday because I ran the Rite-Aid half this morning.

We're probably the only two people on the boards tonight (how sad is that??), so I'll post another reply. :) Mason--I know it well. I work in Mason. It's about 5 miles from our house. We're in Liberty Township, which is just north of West Chester. It's a small world, huh? I think I know about where you are south of Cleveland. We have some clients around Cleveland and I'm pretty sure I remember seeing signs for North Royalton off I-80.

In answer to your question--Yes, you do get extra miles for races. Apparently, we get to count those miles as double (I just found this out myself last week). And the week starting/ending dates are a little screwy each month depending on the # of weeks and extra days in the month. So this past week ran from May 8-14. The current week will be May 15-21.

Congrats on the half this morning! How did it go? I had a couple of friends running it, and our very own WISH teammate Mike (Optimator) was running the full.

Steve

I ran a PR of 1hour 48 minutes felt great. I wanted to break 1:50 and did so very happy. Now my sickness is that I wonder if i can get to 1:45. I looked for the lime green WISH shirts didn't see them. I need to get my own shirt soon.

Awesome time, Rich! 1:48--that's a minute better than my PR. I know what you mean about shooting for 1:45. It's always tempting, especially when you do the math and say, "Huh, 8:00 pace, yeah that sounds feasible enough." :thumbsup2

Great job on the half!

So, how geeky is that? The only two people on the entire internet last evening and they are both on the disboards!! :rotfl:

Hi Rich and :welcome: Good to have you on board. Congrats on the awesome weight loss and for the new passion (ok, somewhat new) of running!

Steve: so sorry about the witchy bike rider the other day. How rude! She must have really been in a bad mood.

So, while DH and fearless leader Calcio is off galavanting around France, who was going to record weekly totals? When and how do you want them?

I was able to get in 6.25 miles on the bike tonight. I hope to get in some running tomorrow.

Have a lovely evening everyone!

It's been awhile since I've last posted - I came home from the Minnie to find my computer had crashed (not sure what Mike did to it while I was gone:badpc: ) We need to purchase a new one and this time will make sure we have everything backed up on it :sad2:

My miles/hours for the last two weeks

May 1 - 7
Miles: 28.1
Hours: 5.0

May 7 - 14
Miles: 14
Hours: 2.5

Craig - I haven't been reading for awhile - I didn't know you were going to France - Are you there on business or pleasure? Hope you're having a great time!

Carol - I hope you're enjoying your new Garmin - I don't know how I did my walks before I got mine - I love mine!

Martha - Sorry to hear about your accident - hope you're feeling better and no pain returns

Teri - sorry we didn't get to chat more at the POR meet - hopefully I'll see you again in Jan

Swim-mom - great news!!!! :woohoo: glad you're able to get out for a little exercise too

Scott - :thumbsup2 your miles (bike or otherwise) are always so impressive! It was nice meeting you Minnie weekend. I've read a little bit of your trip report - it sounds like you and Amy had a great time.

Steve - very impressive miles from you too! I don't know what to say about your plans for racing in the fall - Carter will be arriving in August, right? You never know what will happen then. Our first baby was pleasant and for the most part good natured, the next two cried everyday, all day for the first five months. They were either sleeping, eating or CRYING - no in between. When Mike got home from work I was ready to hand them over to him for a bit so that I could keep my sanity. We were both really stressed with our time during those first few months - so to make a long story short - plan to train for your races and hope that Carter is a good baby that allows you to get plenty of sleep and training time.

Rich - :welcome: to the rabbits team!! You also have impressive daily miles and also a great finishing time in Cleveland this weekend. My DH, Mike and I were there. He ran the full and I was a spectator. Mike did have on a Wish shirt and had a similar to pace to yours for the first half. I was at mile 2.5, 12.5, 22, 25 and the finish. I'm sorry I didn't know who you were or I would have cheered you on too. I live in Virginia now but grew up in Cleveland

Liz - :scared: oooo, that sounds scary! I hope you heal up fast and that everything mends properly. Rest, relax and surf the internet for a few days.

To all the rabbits I missed - I'm sorry I only had time to read back a page or two - I hope everyone is doing well and is getting lots of miles logged.

:) Happy running/walking to all!

Kathy

Hi Bunnies it's me again. Since you guys are such a strong team I always give you guys new players last. But I have decided to give you the first player this round.

Please welcome KeenHo, Howard.

Recruiter Panda:hippie:

Hi Martha,

Craig said if he can't keep up or can't connect (or fails to get a job at Moet) he'll let me know and I'll take over the number entry. Figure I'll do it the same way he had been to keep it easy.

When do you head out? I am so jealous.

Liz

What?? We have to take Howard? What did we do to deserve that? Oh geez, I quit now. ;)

Pretty nice welcome... I think Cam & Kathy's team was offering me a complimentary total body massage after every LR. The grass is looking greener. :rolleyes1

I'll introduce myself soon. In the mean time, look for my first numbers a week from this coming Friday. I am glad to know many of you in this group. I think I will both be inspired by you and challenged by you all too.

:grouphug:

Howard

We get Howard!? YIPEE!!!!!!! Welcome! Welcome!! Welcome!! So, I may not promise a total body massage after every LR, but I'm VERY happy to have you on our team.

Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS on graduating!!!

Liz: I head out May 30th. I'll be there until June 9. My Dad is coming with me. He's turning 80 this year and has always wanted to visit Normandy (he was in the Pacific theater). I figure once you reach 80, you should get pretty much anything you want. So, that's what we are giving him. He's totally psyched.

I did manage to get in 3 miles this evening. The clouds had moved in and it was pretty much great running weather.

Have a lovely evening everyone!

Good Morning Everyone

Business first, I have the numbers up to this point in the official spreadsheet. I suspect I'll have no trouble keeping the book during my absence, so thanks Liz for your kind offer, but I think I'm good for now.

If I get carried away, perhaps literally, during my visits to Champagne, I'll call for backup.

Kathy

This one is hopefully all about relaxation. Our daughter and her pseudo-cousin come in Friday for 9 days, and when they leave Martha and her dad come in for another week. I'll be alone for about 10 days of the month, and I'm pleased the solo time is so short. I already miss my family and home.

To Steve's dismay, and Martha's delight, I approved Howard's addition yesterday morning (really early, from Dublin airport). Since he's graduating and looking for 2 marathons in the next 8 months, he'll be a big contributor.

Speaking of which, I haven't been lately, unless walking and rolling/carrying luggage yesterday counts. If the jet lag gets me up real early tomorrow morning, I'll put on my shoes and run the streets of Paris. Let's hope this doesn't become a Bill Floyd situation, with the gendarmes picking me up in the pre-dawn light.

Best to all
Craig
