Team 6 - Team Ohana - Check in and introduce!

I also finally printed out my waiver form. For some crazy reason, I am placed way up in Corral C. Do I have to do something at the Expo to get moved back to like Corral E? I would like to leave in the 2nd wave and that time frame is more reasonable than Corral C.

Nancy
You can move back in corrals without doing anything at the expo. Corral C is the first corral in Wave 2 and Corral E is the last in Wave 2.

Hello Team......well going by what's been posted recently it looks like most people would like Ohana to stay together. So I guess we're just bound together for life, eh? Works for me! A big thank-you to Debra and Mel for volunteering to be team captains. If we decide to eliminate the game (as most people prefer) the job should be a cinch. All you'll have to do is referee our fisticuffs and censor me when I post something bleepable. (my alltime fave was the time I got censored for typing b-o-o-b-i-e prize!!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: ) I just love you guys and am happy we will continue as a support group. After I go over to the other thread and post the last of the activity, I will come back with a list of all those who have posted regularly. Please let me know if you'd like to continue being on the team. Dave mentioned something about an updated list although I'm not sure what the purpose is if we're not participating in the game. I, for one, am taking a break after the marathon and not planning any more distance events. My goal for the new year is to seriously lose some weight and for me dieting and training just don't go together. I have it in the back of my mind to do the Disneyland half and go for that Kingdom to Kingdom medal, but first I want to see how the marathon goes for both me and John and then I have to decide if it's feasible to fly all the way out to CA when I've already been to DL several times. There's still plenty of time to decide that though......

Nancy: yay! you're coming to Pop meet.....I was hoping you would. Now you have to do the half....I so want to see you whoop the Greek's butt. This going to be very interesting. Conversation at our house over Christmas:
My DD: Greeky, we need to get you some socks for the Disney race.
Greek: Why? I have plenty of socks.
DD: No, you need special socks when you run an event.
Greek: My socks are just fine. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Just make sure that those of us at the water stop say "Opa!" when he takes his water. I'm pretty sure he'll make it to #1. But #11.....not so much!

JenB: sorry for all you've had to deal with lately. I'm glad your dad is on the mend. I know you're stressed out right now, but once you get the WDW and start meeting up with fellow WISHers, you'll be fine.

I was supposed to do 6 miles this weekend, but it didn't happen. Yesterday morning, the fog was so thick it was way too dangerous to go out. Today we set our alarms so we could do the golf course before the rangers came out, but it was pouring so hard we decided it wasn't worth it for a taper walk. John has new shoes he specifically wants to soften up a bit and there was no way he was going to use them in the rain. If the 6 miler doesn't happen - and I'm thinkibng it won't - we'll try to do a few short 2.5 milers at least twice before we leave. At this point, it probably doesn't make that much difference.

talk to everyone soon.......

Hello Cousins,

Christa & Richard - I'm sorry that you will not be in WDW this weekend. It would have been great to meet both of you in real life. Oh well, maybe next year...:goodvibes

Jeanne - Thanks again for being our captain. I can't wait to hear how the Greek does at the half. He sounds entertaining.

Nancy - Enjoy golfing at WDW. I hope I get to meet you this weekend! :)

Jen B - I'm glad your dad is doing well. My dad also had a stent put in a few years ago. It sounds like you came up with a good Plan B having your friend come with you as a sitter. :thumbsup2 I'm sure your enthusiasm will return once you reach WDW.

Debra - Let's see, Pgh. has hills, but it also has less snow and it has you (and your "medicinal" bourbon). Hmmm, maybe I should start packing my bags...;)

Mel - How's the Florida weather looking for this weekend? :sunny:

Maria - How did your 10 miler go? When do you leave for WDW? We leave on Fri morning.

As for me, I am running around like crazy trying to get everything in order before we leave for WDW on Fri. My parents are staying home with the kids, so I have to make sure they have all necessary info for school, after school/weekend activities, etc. Then I have to clean the house and make sure all of the laundry is done (an area where I have been remiss - there's a reason why my kids are still in their pj's right now  ). Then I can pack and start focusing on what DH & I need to do to get ready for the weekend. I can't wait to meet my cousins!!!!

Thanks for the information Robert.

Right now I am more concerned about the weather for the Wed 1/7 as it is now calling for a winter mix starting Tuesday and turning over to freezing rain during the night time. We have a 7am flight and an hour drive to the airport. :scared1: I guess we can try to drive down to BWI after DS#2 gets home from work which won't be until after 10pm. I really hate winter weather.

Nancy

Depends on who you ask:

http://www.wesh.com/weather/index.html

Accuweather

Weather Channel

Looks like they're in a lot better agreement than prior. Pretty good running conditions for most folks.

Thanks for the links, Mel. Let's hope the rain stays away for the whole weekend. :goodvibes

Weather.com and Accuweather have a difference of 10 degrees on the high and 15 degrees on the low, Somebody has to be way off. My voodoo doll is better at predicting this far out :lmao:

Robert, what is your voodoo doll saying about the rain?

Weather.com and Accuweather have a difference of 10 degrees on the high and 15 degrees on the low, Somebody has to be way off. My voodoo doll is better at predicting this far out :lmao:

:confused3 looks like the lows are off by less than 5 degrees...maybe you were looking at the RealFeel temp. Being a cold weather wuss, I only look at those ;) I think you're right...it's all a crapshoot anyway. I don't pay close attention until a day or two before, but I know it's harder for people who are flying in earlier in knowing what to pack.

Mel: At the time of post they were 10 degrees off. Check back a hr or day later and they readjust them. I guess now there down to 5?? Either way weather is looking up!

Dang! I had no idea they were changing the forecasts so frequently. I guess that's just what weather dudes do all day. I'm pretty happy about the forecast so far...I hope it's the first year that it's not too cold and not too hot.

Robert...how are your legs doing since the surgeries?

Mel: My leg is coming along well. It has been 9 1/2 months since second left knee surgery last year. I have about another 13 months before fully recovered. My PT talked to another PT who has 2 patients who had the same surgeries like me at about the same time. They are only up to walking 1 mile. A couple of weeks ago I did an 11 mile training walk. I am still way too slow(above cutoff pace) and still have only about 40 % of normal leg muscle. I walk pretty much one legged and can't walk stairs normally. I continue to go to PT twice a week(this has been for 10 months straight). This will continue for at least another 6 months after WDW. I will quit training after WDW for those 6 months as my PT has told me my training is slowing my recovery(which has been great anyway).

With that being said I am still attempting the Dope. I WILL finish the 5K & 1/2 but am figuring I will get cut somewhere during the marathon. But you never know??? Just hope to at least earn my "Double Donald" of doing 2 halfs.

Will see you guys and gals at the races!

Last day at work. I have to teach a class at 1pm and hope that I can leave after that. Weather here is still unclear. Forecast has been for wintery mix, freezing rain and just plain rain later. I hope it is just raining when we leave for the airport at 4am. I have reward points on AirTran that need to be used so we have upgraded to business class so at least will have a comfortable seat. It is our last trip on AirTran since they are now charging for the first bag. I had been lucky to avoid their previous charges with early booking. We always have suitcases and then our golf bags so it would get expensive to check in 2 bags each, so back to Southwest for us.

Need to drop the dog off at the kennel after work, pack a few more items in the suitcase and fix our carry on bags and we should be all set.

No matter whether I do the half or not, I will stop at the POP meet to see all my cousins.

Save travels everyone.

Nancy

Nancy: Have a safe flight and journey to the airport......and
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, COUSIN!!!!!!!

(OK, I know it's really tomorrow, but you won't be here to see it then)

Robert: Hopefully, you will surprise yourself and all that good Disney adrenalin will kick in. You always manage to make it look effortless....even last year when you were hurting so bad. As team activity recorder, I know you have done the work and put in the miles. If anyone deserves that Goofy medal, it is you. :thumbsup2 Will Linda be staying with you the whole time? I have tried to train with John but we have 2 different styles and it just doesn't work, so we will each be doing our own race. He has a habit of whooping my butt at WDW, so I think he can do it. It would be nice to cross the finish line together but we're not holding each other to it. See you soon, buddy!

Aloha, Cousins!

Happy Birthday, Nancy!

Just adding my good wishes to Jeanne's! I hope all your birthday wishes come true!

Nancy -- I'm glad you're coming to the Pop meet, I can't wait to, well, meet you! :goodvibes :goodvibes I have to finish an hour or so of work this morning, then yoga, then lunch w/a coworker, then I'm off as well! I haven't really begun to pack, so I'll be busy tomorrow!

Robert -- You really are an inspiration to all of us. I don't know how you do it, but I'm so glad you do! :grouphug:

Mel -- I think I'll pack for warm weather, and hope I'm right. I'm definitely going with the layering approach...:thumbsup2

Julie -- Like you, I have a bit more laundry to do. We leave Thursday, and get into Orlando at 5:35 pm. Then it's off to the grocery store, and our final stop at CSR. I am hoping we get one of the newly-renovated rooms. I looked at them online and they are quite lovely. But, I'm not that concerned with the accommodations, much more with getting the Half Marathon under my belt. I can't wait to wear my medal! :woohoo:

Jeanne -- I can't wait to read your post about how the family does! I hope you bring first aid for the Greek, it sounds like he's going to need it! :scared1:

Jen, JenB, JenG, Debra, Christa, Denny, Richard and all the other cousins -- I hope we see you soon, and if you're not coming, I hope we all are able to chat as Team Ohana online! :cheer2:

This is probably my last post before we leave on Thursday. Aloha means family and all the cousins are sticking together! :stitch2:

Maria :yay:

Thanks for the Birthday wishes. It will be the first time having a birthday at WDW. Maybe I will actually wear the button.

Dog to the kennel. Last minute light cleaning of the house. Final load of clothes in the dryer. Everything is packed in the SUV except the carry on items. The weather forecast changes every hour so not sure if we will go down tonight or just deal with whatever in the morning. Currently it is doing nothing.

I hope to be having my Birthday dinner at Narcoosees at this time tomorrow night.

See everyone at POP.

Nancy

I think I've probably missed most of us who will be here this weekend, but I just wanted Ohana members to know I'm looking forward to meeting those of us who will be at Disney this weekend--see you at the POP or on the course--and that I'm with all members in spirit! You're the best! :goodvibes

I know most are gone....but good luck to all on the races...will be praying for you guys!

Hello Ohana!
We had slipped so far down the pages, I didn't even find us. Or maybe I'm unobservant. Anyhow, I just wanted to post my copy of the Ohana team photo from the POP meet - I think we may have had one of the strongest turnouts of all the teams!

Thanks for posting the picture. It was great to meet some of you guys at the POP meet. I had a really nice weekend and we have already signed up for next year-- we are going Goofy :scared1:
