Team 6 - Team Ohana - Check in and introduce!

Richard - The San Antonio marathon sounds like a lot of fun. I'm glad you had such a great time, although that hill sounds like a killer! :scared1:

Happy Thanksgiving to all of my cousins!

Richard: congrats on the good race, having fun is definitely the important part and it sounds like it was a nice course

My DH and I did the Philadelphia Half Marathon over the weekend. Start temps were pretty cold in the low 20's but it was nice and sunny. This was the first time I've ever run in the cold (usually train indoors on the TM) so it was a new experience of being both hot and freezing at the same time. This course also had a few more hills than I am used to-- the hilly part started at mile 7-8 :sad2: the only other hitch was the water stations were really icy so you had to walk through them pretty slowly or risk slipping. All told I did have a good time and beat my previous 1/2 time by a minute for a time of 2:48-- not a speed record for the course by any stretch but I was pleased.

now all that is left is to train for the WDW full

Hi Cousins!

Just driving by to say I'm sorry I don't make it over here often enough, and I expect to spend lots of time here after the middle of the month, when things are slower at work and I can post 'til my little heart is content!

I don't have time for tons of replies -- I just wanted to say Jeanne your family is quite attractive! JenB and Richard Congrats on the great races! Julie and Corinna I hope you are feeling better.

I had a break, but I'm back in training mode. I did my 4.5 miles today, so tomorrow I have 3 miles and Yoga! :woohoo:

I'm off to Dreamland! :cloud9:

Hi cousins... remember me?? Not likely huh! Well life has not been kind for me this year. My mom is still in the hospital and is now just living her life out there. I was harrassed and threatened by family (again) and DH and I were left jobless after we cut all ties. BUT... good news... as of this week DH has a new job. And me.... well after being a professional for 13 years, I am now staying home and working from home and taking care of my kids. YIKES... BIG CHANGE.

WDW was axed from our list as we have NO money with all the trauma. But this new job gave us hope and we are looking at now going for the weekend and race.

I just wanted to let everyone know. It's not that I have been snubbing you, I have just been very depressed and sad and visiting here was hard at times.

Jen: We love you and miss you. Hang in there....better days are coming.:grouphug:

JenB and Richard: congrats on your recent race events.

Maria, Julie, Corinna: great to hear from you guys.

I'm going through a little crisis of my own right now, so you'll have to forgive me if I'm not here as often as I should be. I intend to weather this and come out stronger and be better for it, but right now things are a little tough. Still planning to be at WDW for the marathon although my training is really suffering right now.

Hi Cousins,

Jen B - Congrats on beating your previous half marathon time. That's great! :thumbsup2

Maria - Glad the training is going well. Looking forward to "seeing" you around more once work slows down for you. :goodvibes

Jen - I'm sorry that this year has been so hard for you. :grouphug: Try to stay strong and hopefully better things are right around the corner. I really hope you're able to make the Jan trip. I'm loking forward to meeting you.

Jeanne - :grouphug: I hope that everything turns out ok for you.

Hi to Richard, Debra, Corinna, Nancy, Mel and all of the other cousins.:wave2:

As for me, I think I have runner's knee. :sad2: I'm ok for 10 miles or so, then the pain sets in. I'm taking this week off from running and trying to concentrate on yoga and stretching instead. I'm very nervous about messing up my training now that I've come this far. I have an appt with a physical therapist next week, so I'm hoping that they can help me fix this in time for the marathon.

Have a great week, everyone!

Plane tickets have been purchased!! Yah.. we are only there 3 days though since DH has to work on Monday. But I feel blessed that I can make it at all. I am highly under trained but am positive I can finish in the time limit. I can't wait to see all my WISH friends!

Hey guys! My name is Christa and I love Disney....LOL!

Anywho, I can finally post a bit again. Due to some issues it just was not wise to post....but I have put in my totals for the team.

Julie - Your knee issues sound like the IT band....I could be wrong, but that band sometimes rubs weird and can make the knee hurt...for it to stop and start like that...try some ITB streches..can be found on the web...that may help.

Jeanne - Hope everything is OK...will be praying.

Jen B - WTG on that 1/2 time! That is awesome...I love it when I PR!

Jen - Sorry that everything has been so crazy hard for you! Glad everything is getting better...It sounds like you did the right thing, but I know that sometimes doing the right thing for your family is hard.

I did a 1/2 on Nov 1st and was able to PR. I did it as a tune up race for the Thunder Road marathon. Thunder Road is 12/13...AHHHH...THATS NEXT WEEKEND!
Anywho, for your reading enjoyment, I have posted a link to my new blog. It has my race report on it.

Jen - Hooray! :cool1: :thumbsup2  :cheer2: I'm looking forward to meeting you in real life.

Christa - Thanks for the advice. Some of my symptoms seem to fall into the runner's knee category and others seem to fall into the IT band category. :confused3 I've been doing some stretches for both and I'll be seeing a physical therapist next Fri. I'm doing a 5 mile run tomorrow - my first run in a week - so we'll see how that goes. Congrats on your PR and good luck on your upcoming race! :thumbsup2

Just a real quickie post to let everyone know I am alive and well. Thanksgiving was wonderful, but exhausting.....took me at least half a week to get back to normal....and virtually no training at all. At least I have a half marathon tomorrow that will give me double miles. I actually have to post a zero for the week ending yesterday :scared: Still dealing with my crisis, but learning to take things one day at a time. Right now I am getting ready to leave for the Victory Junction Run which is in Randleman, NC. We are staying overnight and weeting Wendy (getnthnr) for dinner and possibly also Jackie (MouseDogMom) who may or may not show up due to illness. Trying right now to get last minute things in order before we go. I'm sorry, but I will not have the time to check activity and post miles before i leave, but I will try to do it Sunday evening when we return. Hopefully there will be LOTS to post!

Jen: so glad you're going to be able to make the trip in January.....:cheer2:

Christa: happy to see you posting again!

Everyone else: keep up the good work....we're almost there!

I did 9 this morning...forgot how long 9 miles really is :rotfl:

Jeanne...hope you're doing okay. If you need anything, holler.

Jen....yippeeee! I'm so glad you're going to make it for WDW :goodvibes

Christa!!! Great to see you. Hope everything is okay for you now.

Julie...how did the knee hold up on your run?

Maria...any interest in the new Star Trek movie? I'm not sure how I feel about it.

How's everyone else doing?

Jeanne - I hope everything is ok and that you had a good race.:goodvibes

Mel - I hear ya about those 9 milers - sometimes they seem to last forever!

For all of my cousins who read the Stephanie Plum books, you may already know this but there's a "between the numbers" book coming out. Plum Spooky goes on sale Jan 6. I think I'll get it for the plane ride down to WDW. I know I'm going to be nervous about the marathon, so this book will distract me - for a couple of hours anyway.

My knee is ok, but I haven't run any long distances. I'm sticking to 5 mile runs this week. I see the physical therapist on Fri, so I'm hoping that he/she can help me fix this in time for the race. If you have any spare pixie dust, please send some my way!

Have a great week, everyone! :)

Julie -- I am #49 on the list at the Boston Public Library for Plum Spooky. We'll see if I last that long...I just hate to pay for such a quick read, and the between the #s books are always shorter. :goodvibes

Mel -- I'm going to reserve judgement on the new Star Trek movie until I see it. They are notoriously uneven, but Bill Shatner is not in this one, and the one's without him as the lead tend to do better... :confused3

Jeanne -- I knew Thanksgiving would go great! I really hope your life settles and you are able to get back to your routine. :grouphug:

Christa and Jen -- So good to hear from you guys! :cheer2:

Richard, Debra, Morgan, Nancy, Robert, Linda and all the other cousins -- Aloha! :surfweb:

I did 4.5 mi this morning, and 7 on Saturday. The 7 was rough, but I'm hoping with improved hydration I'll do better with 8 next Sat. Tomorrow is 3 mi + biking. It should be yoga, but I have to go to a meeting during the class. That pesky work is getting in the way of my training! :headache:

I have the Lee Cockerell book, Creating Magic: 10 Common Sense Leadership Strategies from a Life at Disney to start tonight. I'm taping the finale of Boston Legal. I'm going to miss that quirky show. I'm also taping Heroes and My Own Worst Enemy.

Oh! My list of cancelled shows that make me sad -- My Own Worst Enemy, Pushing Daisies, Dirty Sexy Money. I'm going to have way more free time for my reading! Anybody else sad to lose a fave? :happytv:

Everyone have an awesome night and a great week!
Maria :upsidedow

Hi Cousins - It sounds like things are coming together for Marathon weekend for most of us. I'm on the edge, myself. Last week, I was thinking that I really should cancel and just plan on 2010, but then my DME documents arrived and I thought about how I should really cancel my reservations and I just couldn't do it. Not yet!

My brain is doing a LOT better, thankfully. I have lost a whole month of training! I don't know what exactly that means except that I'll be moving from "slow" to "slower." I am OK with that - I just don't want to do anything dangerous or crazy, given my recent concussion. This week is my trial week. I'm starting the training again, and probably do a 6 or 7 for the long run this weekend. My goal is to get up to 10 on the long "run" though fact is, I'm planning on walking a good chunk of this race. I had been hoping to get a 12 , but at this point, 10 is about all I'll have time for before the taper, if that!

I, for one, think the new Star Trek has the potential to be absolutely incredible, based on the trailer.

Corinna: hang in there, but take it easy also. You had a good solid base before the accident, so you should be able to gain it all back quickly as soon as your body is ready. I'm rooting for you, girl!

Maria: NO! Dirty Sexy Money is getting cancelled????? Please say it isn't so! I absolutely love that show....and it's one of the few shows I like that my husband also enjoys. And it's been getting so good lately.....

I must be living under a rock... there is a new Star Trek movie? details please...

I'm glad to hear everyne is getting on track for the marathon, I can't believe how close it is getting.

I have my reallt long runs coming up the next 2 weeks-- 20 mi each then taper. I survived 18 miles last week so I think I can do this. I'm off to the podiatrist tomorrow to try to fix some toe pain I have been getting with my long runs, but otherwise things are going pretty well.

Wow! I just watched the trailer, and it is incredible! The movie comes out on my anniversary, guess where I am forcing dh to go?! (Yep, he hates the movies so I will have to make him go).

I see why you are excited Corinna, this looks so good!!!!! You would be surprised at the people who don't train at all and manage to finish the Half marathon. You are going to do great!

Maria

Julie -- I am #49 on the list at the Boston Public Library for Plum Spooky. We'll see if I last that long...I just hate to pay for such a quick read, and the between the #s books are always shorter. :goodvibes

Lucky you - I'm #63! Like you, I hate to shell out money for such a short read, but I think I need it for the plane ride. I'm so nervous already, I can't imagine what I'll be like in Jan! I'll take all the distractions I can get.

You would be surprised at the people who don't train at all and manage to finish the Half marathon. You are going to do great!

Maria, you make me feel a lot better. I can't imagine doing the half on no training at all!

Glad you enjoyed the movie trailer. It's a well edited promotional piece, at least! Doesn't the guy playing Spock look just...well.....perfect?
