a scrapbook-type book that has a personal message from each student in your class thanking you/saying something nice or meaningful along with a pic of each child (on the same page as their message) as part of an end-of-year gift? I plan to also include some pics of the teacher, special events, cool bulletin boards she did, etc. I am planning to do two of these scrapbooks for my children's teachers to go along with a gift certificate or something like that. Would this be something special to you?

I am not a teacher but I think it's a great idea:thumbsup2 . We did something like this last year for my DD's dance teacher. We ordered an extra group photo and put it in a frame that was designed to be signed. Each of the girls signed it and then we added movie theater and restaurant gift certificates to it. She absolutely loved it. She said the picture was on of her favorite parent gifts ever.:goodvibes

I'm a teacher and honestly any gift I receive I try to be grateful for. Honestly, some gifts aren't much use, but just knowing that a parent and/or student thought about me is sweet. I've gotten everything from homemade egg rolls to movie gift certificates and everything in between. Any thing you give should be greatly appreciated.

I'm a former teacher married to a teacher. That would be an awesome end of the year gift.

I'm a teacher and that sounds wonderful! I got 2 cards and some gifts today. The gifts were fine but the cards with heartfelt messages will be kept forever!

Yes! I would have loved it while I was teaching! It's always wonderful to know that you made an impact on someone!

Oh, I think that would be a wonderful gift:goodvibes . I love:love: to look back at pictures of classes I've had in the past and see how much the children have grown! The personal messages would mean a lot to me as well. What a great idea:thumbsup2 .

Hi! 1st grade teacher here.

Yes! I've been teaching 16 years & my favorite end of year gifts are gift cards & memory books. Everything else usually ends up in my annual garage sale.

For the past several years, I've usually gotten a mall gift card from the class totaling $100.00-$225.00, & a memory book type thing. I spend the card & have the book to treasure!! Perfect!!:thumbsup2

I agree! I love the scrapbooks! I have two already. It makes me want to start keeping one for the whole year. I keep them on my shelf and look at them to remember the ones who have moved on and the difference we've made in each others' lives.

I do like the gift cards as well. A combo here (as mentioned above) is a great idea! But of course it feels great to get the acknolwedgement and we like any gift because of that!

Scrapbooks and teachers go hand-in-hand. We love mushy, sentimental things and we keep everything. It's in our nature.:cutie:

Thank you for all the positive responses! I did not want to pour a ton of time into something that was going to get tossed away. Both teachers that I am making the books for are very sweet and I think they will love them, but I wanted an "expert" opinion. :thumbsup2

Former teacher who now is the scrapbooking mom. I do one each year for my kids' teachers. Haven't had one who hasn't cried when they got theirs (or later cried when they looked through them, to be more exact).

After being out of the business for 6 years, all I have from my teaching years are notes, photos, and the baby blanket the principal gave me as a baby gift (well, the dd still uses it as a lovie).

We (the class moms) are doing the same thing for my son's Kindergarten teacher along with a gift certificate. It's good to hear it would be welcome (I wasn't so sure)!

Great idea! As a former teacher, it's so hard to have these kids come into your "family" and then have them gone out of your life. A scrapbook is a wonderful keepsake!

I think that's an awesome idea. As a teacher, I used to get so much stuff (candles, lotion, etc) that was nice, but I didn't need it. I'm a sahm now, and the one thing I've kept are the handwritten notes and cards from various students. Some of the things the kids wrote was so wonderful and gives me a pick-me-up when I read them now.

On the opposite side of this are teachers like my mil. She either gives away to dh and I or actually throws away (instead of giving things to goodwill) the gifts she receives! It drives me nuts because these parents and kids spent time and money on the gifts. She could at least let someone else use them! She even gives us the gift cards, which she could use herself!!! Someone like her would probably read through the scrapbook and then throw it away. It would be awful for all of your effort to go to waste.

I don't know how to go about it, but find out which kind of teacher you are dealing with :teacher:

It's a great idea!

I worked as a teachers' assistant for a year and a half after I graduated college. Halfway through the second year, I got married and moved out of state. I was assigned to the fourth grade, and before I left they gave me a scrapbook, and each child had written a page (poem, note, etc.). I LOVED it, and cried when they gave it to me. It was such a sweet thing, especially since I wasn't even a teacher!

great idea... don't forget the special area teachers... we music teachers (and gym, and art, and library) love this stuff too!

I'm a kindergarten teacher and I just love this idea. I have several books like this that parents have made for me over the years. I also have a wonderful rocking chair in my classroom (gift from DMIL) that has the name of every child I have ever taught (and the year) on it. I just added my students from this year and they love that they are on it. I had one sweet little guy said "Now we are yours forever." :goodvibes They sure are! This year I had several of my old students who are now in high school come and be buddies for my students this year. The 18 year olds loved seeing their names on the chair just as much as the 5 year olds.;)
So, long anwer to this question....yes, teachers love gifts that help them remember their students. At least I do!

By the way, same little guy from above helped me find Disney Crocs I was shopping for yesterday. I ran into his family in the store and told them why I was there. He takes me by the hand and says "You'll never find them. I'll show you where they are." ;) He sure does know his teacher!
